U.S. Senator Alex Padilla (D-Calif.) announced Wednesday that the 27th annual Lake Tahoe Summit will feature Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi as the keynote speaker. This year’s summit will be held on August 9, 2023, and will highlight Tahoe’s Environmental Improvement Program, a successful bipartisan, bi-state collaboration among local, state, federal, and private entities. It will also examine the challenges that lie ahead in the face of climate change and increasingly unpredictable weather whiplash, as well as the growing demands on regional infrastructure.

At first glance, Lake Tahoe is pristine. But look closer. Aquatic invasive plants and trash threaten the unique water quality and clarity for which Tahoe is known. Floating debris like plastic litter can leach chemicals into the aquatic environment, while each individual fragment of an invasive weed represents a new potential infestation and further harm to the Lake’s fragile ecology.

The 2nd annual Scholarship Education Forum will be held in El Dorado County this September, with one event in South Lake Tahoe and another one in Placerville.

These forums are for donors, funders, and people thinking about providing scholarships to the class of 2024. They have been created to help you understand the EDCF scholarship process for high school seniors as they move on in the world and to help you create the best scholarship possible based on your philosophy and philanthropy!

This is a free event and food and drinks will be provided.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Sarah Trickey, registered nurse (RN) with Barton’s Emergency Department, was selected as a recipient of The DAISY Award for extraordinary nurses. The award is in recognition of the clinical skill and compassionate care nurses provide to create a superior experience for patients and their families.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Gatsby Festival returns to South Lake Tahoe at the Tallac Historic Site on August 12 and 13, and with it marks the return the a big favorite, the Gatsby Tea and Vintage Fashion Show.

It's been four years since the Gatsby Festival was last held at the Baldwin, Pope, and Heller Estates, and both days are full of events for the public to enjoy.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - As the South Shore started developing and homes were being built in the 1940s, Tahoe Supply Co. was the only place in the area to buy nails, screws, and all other hardware needs. Linne Nelson bought the store in May 1945 from Jack and Irene Meyn who wanted to focus their business adventures on Trading Posts and photography. UC Davis TERC is having two special events on August 10. They are hosting a special presentation in Tahoe City by the "Pope's Astronomer." Brother Guy Consolmagno, director of the Vatican Observatory, will present Deep Waters to Deep Space: Father Angelo Secchi’s Amazing 19th Century Science. Prior to the Brother's presentation, there will be poster presentations by 2023 summer undergraduate interns who will discuss the research they have undertaken at Tahoe this summer.

Our family is sad to share the passing of Nicholas (Nick) Price DeFressine. It has taken some time for us to come to grips with our loss.

Nicholas is survived by his father Richard (Rick), his mother Krista, and his sister Miranda. Nick has a huge extended family as well.

Nick was raised in South Lake Tahoe. He went to Meyers Elementary, South Tahoe Middle School and South Tahoe High School.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - If you're like me, you love getting lost in a nursery, and Aspen Hollow in South Lake Tahoe allows a respite from the outside world as you plot and plan your garden.

John Fellows opened Aspen Hollow in 1994 on the corner of Emerald Bay Road and Lukins Way as the property fit his vision for creating a magical nursery. He had been creative in his career around the Lake Tahoe area as a mason, woodcarver, sign maker, and the nursery would allow him to take his creativity in a new direction.

El Dicho Cafe opened last week on Tamarack Avenue and has coffees, bagels, breakfast burritos, fruit smoothies, flavored Red Bull, juices, fresh pastries, and a full list of antojitos (or Mexican snack food) on its menu.

Perla Bautista has lived in South Lake Tahoe for 39 years and was operating Learn & Play Daycare out of her home when she was able to realize her next dream.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There is a multi-agency training underway at South Tahoe Middle School (STMS), and the campus is currently closed to the public in the interest of safety. This training is to enhance the agency's response to active shooter scenarios that will benefit law enforcement, educators, and the South Lake Tahoe community.

The Lake Tahoe Unified School District is hosting Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) at STMS from July 31 through August 3, 2023.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Tahoe Arts Project (TAP) is holding its annual Music on the Beach on Thursday, August 17 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Lakeshore Lodge and Spa. Gate opens at 6 p.m.

Performing for the evening is the Wesley Orsolic Band with special guest Mauro Di Gioia on saxophone.

The suggested donation for the event is $20.

The evening will include a benefit raffle to support performing arts in the schools and community. Bring food, beverages, blankets, and low-back chairs. No pets are allowed.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Warm and dry weather with typical afternoon breezes will prevail through Monday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno. Moisture returns for the first few days of August,
bringing chances for mainly afternoon showers and thunderstorms, especially by Wednesday and Thursday. Temperatures will also cool by a few degrees by mid-late week, before warming up again next weekend.
