One dies in single-engine plane crash near South Lake Tahoe

UPDATE 6:23 p.m.: One person died in Tuesday's crash of a single-engine plane in Meyers. At 3:23 p.m., El Dorado County Sheriff Deputies responded to the report of the crash near the Forest Service homes on Rainbow Road.

When Deputies arrived, they found a single-engine plane "crumpled and upside down" in a wooded area. There were two people on board the plane. One person was deceased and the other was taken to Renown Hospital in Reno via helicopter. Their condition is unknown at this time.

El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office is in communication with the FAA and National Travel Safety Board (NTSB) who will be conducting an investigation into the cause of the crash. NTSB investigators are due at the scene this evening.

The identity of those on board the plane will not be released until their identity is confirmed and family have been notified.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A small plane has crashed in Meyers near Rainbow Road. At this time, one person is being transported to the hospital via helicopter. There is no fire associated with the crash and first responders are on the scene.
