SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - On Thursday, South Lake Tahoe police and other search teams will continue to look for a Gilroy, California man missing in the lake since Tuesday.
At 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 25, 2020, the South Lake Police Department (SLTPD) was alerted of a man missing in the lake after going swimming near a rental boat. The SLTPD marine boat responded to a sail boat that had picked up two people from the water near Lily Beach in South Lake Tahoe.
A group of three people rented a boat from the Tahoe Keys Marina and took it to the Lily Beach area to swim. The investigation shows all three were in the water but currents and wind moved the boat away from where they were, and separated them.
The two rescued people were wearing lifejackets, but 25-year-old Ian Morlang was not. They told investigators Morlang went under the water and wasn’t seen again.
SLTPD Marine-1 initiated a search and rescue operation, with the assistance of the U.S. Coast Guard, El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Tahoe Douglas Fire, South Tahoe Fire Rescue and CalStar medical helicopter.
They searched until sunset and then a Coast Guard and Navy rescue helicopter form Fallon Naval Base, continued the search into the night.
The next day, the search continued with EDSO Search and Rescue K-9’s, divers and a remote operated underwater vehicle from DCSO.
The search continues Thursday.
This continues to be a developing story and no other information is available at this time.
