Nevada law enforcement joining forces to emphasize importance of safe and sober driving

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is joining the Nevada Highway Patrol and other law enforcement agencies in the state to emphasize the importance of safe and sober driving during the Labor Day Holiday weekend and beginning of September.

The enforcement began on August 25 and ends on Monday, September 10.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office will dedicate extra officers to DUI enforcement as part of a statewide JOINING FORCES campaign aimed at reducing tragedies caused by people driving under the influence.

“Alcohol is a substance that impairs decision making and muscle coordination which drivers absolutely need," said Douglas County Sheriff Ron Pierini. "Statistics show that a person dies in an alcohol related traffic accident every 50 minutes and I want everyone in our community to be aware of the danger of driving under the influence.”

Funding for the extra patrols needed for this campaign is made possible by a Joining Forces grant received from the Nevada Department of Public Safety/Office of Traffic Safety.

Joining Forces is a multi-jurisdictional law enforcement program aimed at reducing injuries and crashes through statewide enforcement in the area of: DUI, speed, distracted driving seat belt and pedestrian safety.
