UPDATE: A 41-year-old man from Sacramento was arrested Thursday morning after leading law enforcement on a pursuit from Rancho Cordova to Meyers.
The Rancho Cordova Police Department attempted to pull Matthew Holmes over for a minor traffic violation at 4 a.m. near Folsom Blvd. and Florin Perkins Road. Holmes did not pull over, and a pursuit began.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) took over the pursuit, and Holmes led them on US50 about 80 miles to Meyers. A spike strip was put down on the ground near Gunmount on Echo Summit, and Holmes’ vehicle came to a stop near the Upper Truckee River and South Upper Truckee Road two hours later.
The suspect didn’t want to exit the vehicle, nor would he roll down the windows to communicate. The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office and the South Lake Tahoe Police Department assisted, and they used a non-lethal method to attempt to break his windows.
Holmes then exited the car and was arrested on the following charges:
Misdemeanor obstruction and resisting, and felony evading. There is also a bail enhancement and current bail is $108,000.
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – US 50 in Meyers has been closed near the Upper Truckee River since 6:55 a.m. due to law enforcement activity.
Multiple agencies are involved and as of 8:53 a.m., one person has been arrested and the road should be opening soon.
There was a vehicle pursuit from Sacramento to Lake Tahoe, and spike strips near Gunmount on Echo Summit popped one tire and the driver stopped by the river.
