SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The 2026 St. Theresa Bread & Broth 4 Kids Summer Program begins June 24th and will continue every Wednesday through August 19th.
Food will be distributed at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Grace Hall, each Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Any child up to the age of 18 can come alone or with a parent or legal guardian to pick up free, nutritious, kid-friendly food. Parents must be accompanied by their child to receive the food bags.

In addition, food bags will be delivered to the following child care centers and community organizations: Boys and Girls Club, Family Resource Center, Catalyst Kids, Early Head Start, LTCC Child Development Center, Catalyst Community, Appleseeds Academy, and Step by Step Early Learning Center.

The food items will include, but are not limited to, fresh fruit, cereals, canned meat, protein-rich breakfast bars, single-serving dinner entrees, and nutritious snacks. In addition, each child will receive a surprise snack, anything from cookies to ice cream to enjoy on site.

Cheryl Breitwieser, co-chairperson of the B&B 4 Kids program, shared one mother’s sentiments about the program, “My son looks so forward to each week opening the bag to see what’s inside. I truly appreciate the program and what it means to our family.”

The B&B 4 Kids Summer program first began in 2017. Last summer, over 1,700 bags were distributed, and with escalating food prices, more children requesting bags may be needed this summer.

“Every summer, hundreds of children in the Lake Tahoe South Shore community suffer from food insecurity,” shares Carol Gerard, director of Bread & Broth. “These children are fed breakfast and lunch at their school or childcare sites during the school year, but might have limited access to nutritious food while on summer break fro school. The B&B 4 Kids/Tots Summer Program, each Wednesday, offers children the opportunity to come to Grace Hall, receive a bag of healthy and kid-friendly food items, and choose other groceries to take home for the week.”

Contributions from very generous local community organizations, grants, and private donors continue to sustain the program. Parents repeatedly express their gratitude for the program, and they indicate that the food bags are so helpful in maintaining a healthy diet for their child over the summer.
