SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Catalyst Community and the El Dorado County Community Hubs are kicking off their annual Diaper Drive from September 18-24 in recognition of National Diaper Need Awareness Week.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Challenge Day organization will be in South Lake Tahoe next week to conduct three-day-long programs at South Tahoe High School (STHS), and community members are needed to help each day.

TASK (The Tahoe Alliance for Safe Kids) has worked with the Lake Tahoe Unified School District to bring the life-changing Challenge days to all 9th graders at South Lake Tahoe High School (STHS) for the second year.

9/11 UPDATE: The woman who died at Lakeland Village on September 7 has been identified as 62-year-old Jacqueline Cason. She was from the Oceanside, California area and formerly of South Lake Tahoe. The next of kin has been notified.

Detectives from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department are continuing to investigate and gather more evidence. Search warrants have been executed as detectives reconstruct activities from the evening Ms. Cason died.. The cause of her death has not been determined at this time and an autopsy is scheduled.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - No, the Beacon Bar and Grill is not closed. The question has been asked all through town over the last several days, most likely due to the concession process for Camp Richarson through the U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU).

TAHOE CITY, Calif. - The Tourist Business Improvement District (TBID) covering the north shore of Lake Tahoe continues to yield results that benefit the community, the environment, and the visitor.

Launched in July 2022, an assessment fee was added to all TBID business transactions for those who provide any type of visitor service including food and beverage, and retail. The fee can be paid for by the business, or added to the customer's bill, and is paid by all who use the business, visitor or not. Depending on the zone the business is located in, the fee is one or two percent.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Agencies restoring the Taylor and Tallac marsh areas have completed the installation of bottom barriers to remove 17 acres of invasive plants as part of the comprehensive restoration of one of the last natural wetlands in the Lake Tahoe Basin. The USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) and Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) announced this week that the collaborative project that began in December 2021 is one of the largest aquatic invasive species control projects ever undertaken in the Tahoe Basin.

On Sunday, September 10, Hope Lutheran Church will dedicate its Sunday service to Pastor Joel Martin in memoriam. Pastor Joel served as pastor at Hope from 2003 to 2014. Many have benefited from his dedication to his ministry. From building a local youth ministry to organizing ice fishing trips, Pastor Joel approached his ministry with great kindness, joy, faith, and above all else love. He is survived by his wife, Amanda, and two sons, Rowan and Ezra.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Work to replace 9,510 linear feet of aging and undersized waterline is continuing in the Black Bart neighborhood, and traffic along Black Bart Avenue will be impacted over the next two to three weeks.

Work first began in the summer of 2022 on the Tahoe Forest Products Saw Mill, which is still busy constructing its mill on Washoe Tribal Land behind the Topsy Lane shopping center — with work continuing throughout the night.

A year later, residents living nearby have started a petition asking for all nighttime work to cease which, according to Kevin Leary and Jim Turner of TFP, would only prolong the work.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif.. - Renowned Tahoe environmental scientist Dr. Charles Goldman will speak at a Sierra Club event on the evening of Wednesday, September 20 at 6:30 p.m. at Lake Tahoe Community College. In his Adventures in Limnology talk, Dr. Goldman will entertain everyone with his global adventures as a scientist - all in the cause of protecting Lake Tahoe and other precious natural resources.

The free event will be in the college's Room 103, Aspen/Board Room.

Organizers will be providing small bites and snacks but please bring your full reusable water bottle.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Everyone is invited to join the women from Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra (SITS) at South Tahoe Refuse on Saturday, September 23, 2023, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. to rid your homes or businesses of e-waste. Simply swing by with your items and fill up the e-waste bins.

Examples of electronic waste include TVs, computer monitors, printers, scanners, keyboards, mice, cables, circuit boards, lamps, clocks, flashlights, calculators, phones, answering machines, digital/video cameras, radios, VCRs, DVD players, MP3 and CD players.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Climate change requires Californians to use water more wisely and prepare for more frequent and persistent periods of limited water supply. Two new water efficiency bills are now in place in the state as a response to more frequent droughts and dry spells. SB606 and AB1668 were created to help the state better prepare for future droughts and other effects of climate change on the State’s water supplies.
