SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Tahoe Learning Haven (TLH) is hosting its second Student Summer Job Fair on Wednesday, May 8 from 6:45 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe, 1100 Lyons Ave, South Lake Tahoe. It will be a free one-stop shopping event in which you can leave with a summer job!

Over 25 local businesses will be there, all looking for summer employees. TLH will help students ages 15-18 create a simple resume, complete applications, interview and complete your work permit. In 2.5 hours, students can leave with their perfect summer job.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The youth at the Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe (BGCLT) gave a proper send-off to two men who left South Lake Tahoe on motorcycles Wednesday for a 5,500-mile trip to Panama City.

“We are seeking a visionary leader with a growth mindset," said Board Chair, Chris Proctor. "The CEO will establish relationships within the community as a collaborative partner, and provide guidance and support to local businesses. We all understand the importance of a vibrant economy and the right CEO at the chamber is a key component of that vibrancy.”

On Thursday, April 25, 2024, UC Davis TERC is hosting a lecture about
Bees in the Tahoe Basin: Pollination Ecology and Conservation. This special event will feature Dr. Rachel Vannette with the UC Davis Department of Entomology and Nematology. The in-person event will be held at Sunnyside Restaurant and Lodge in their Emerald Room. Dinners will be 20 percent off for interested guests.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Aktion Club will host a Bingo Night, this Friday, April 12, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Lake Tahoe Christian Fellowship church at 3580 Blackwood Road in South Lake Tahoe.

The Aktion Club is a group sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Tahoe Sierra and is comprised of adults with disabilities. The local Aktion Club raises funds to help others in the community through fundraisers such as Bingo and Rummage sales. Funds from this fundraiser will help send club members to the Aktion Club District Convention in the fall.

Get ready to Hike! Tahoe Rim Trail Association and The Carson Valley Trail Association will be the next South Lake Tahoe Library presentation on April 23 at 5:30 p.m.

Delaney Diamond from the Tahoe Rim Trail will give a presentation on how to hike and complete the Tahoe Rim Trail. She will be joined by Juan Guzman from the Carson Valley Trail Association. Learn about the growing trail system down in the Carson Valley and where to get out and hike right now.

The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) will host a virtual meeting and in-person public meetings to gather public feedback on proposed options for improving U.S. 395 between southern Carson City and the Nevada-California border at Topaz Lake.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - El Dorado County’s Planning and Building staff launched the “Projects in Your Area” online tool that makes it easier to find the current status of and information about proposed, in-progress, and approved projects in the County. The new tool includes features and functionality community members and officials have requested.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Valhalla Tahoe, an organization dedicated to preserving and promoting cultural and historical heritage, has announced its Spring Cleanup Day scheduled for April 14, 2024. This event aims to gather the community for a collective effort to maintain the beauty of the Valhalla grounds in preparation for the upcoming season of festivities.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A Big THANK YOU to the South Lake Tahoe community for another successful Drug Store Project this year for our 6th-grade students from South Lake Tahoe Middle School, George Whittell High School, Diamond Valley Elementary School, and local homeschool youth.

Altogether, 160 agency personnel and community volunteers plus 285 students and the school staff gathered on the Lake Tahoe Community College campus for the 21st annual Drug Store Project.

This event only happens because of the support of our Tahoe community.

STATELINE, Nev — Edgewood Companies has announced the promotion of Corinna Osborne to the role of chief operating officer. DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - Concerns of transparency have surrounded the Douglas County School District (DCSD) Board of Trustees since the November 2022 election, and there has been a settlement over a lawsuit brought against them.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The annual South Lake Tahoe Earth Day Festival will be held at Lake Tahoe Community College on Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is outside near the Roberta Mason Library.

The event is geared toward all ages and recognizes, celebrates, and promotes the Lake Tahoe Basin's unique beauty while educating the public on how to preserve and protect it.

This is one of the largest environmental education events in the area, providing residents and visitors an opportunity to learn about the various environmental issues that affect Lake Tahoe.

Partnership Douglas County is hosting a community Naloxone Training at Kahle Community Center on Wednesday, April 10 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Naloxone, a medication that can rapidly reverse opioid overdose, has been instrumental in saving countless lives. This training is open to the public and will provide access to expert instruction for this life-saving tool. No registrations or questions asked.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Sierra Nevada Alliance will host a special Earth Day event to benefit conservation efforts in the Sierra Nevada on April 22 in the Grand Hall at the historic Valhalla. The Spring Bounty Dinner fundraiser starts at 5 p.m. and the evening will include live music, mingling, and refreshments in the bar, an Earth Day Fair with tabling by over 15 local organizations, and a silent auction featuring lots of great prizes from local ski resorts, hotels, and others.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - Two people were arrested at Edgewood Tahoe Resort on Friday on multiple charges in Florida, California, and Nevada after using a stolen credit card while paying for incurred expenses for the hotel.

On Friday, April 5, deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) were called to the resort at Lake Tahoe. A woman identified as 34-year-old Kaleigh Thinnes from Sarasota, Florida had reserved the room online using a false name, provided additional, false identification upon check-in, and then tried to pay with the stolen credit card.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Historial Society is holding another of its popular Tahoe History Talks on Tuesday, April 16 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Museum Complex. The speaker is Peter Goin, a UNR Foundation Professor of Art in photography and time-based media. The topic of his talk is "Lake Tahoe: A Rephotographic History."

Goin is the author of several "then and now" photography books on the Lake Tahoe region where he and his students explore photos of locations in the past and find the same spot today.
