Mary Dolores Townsend passed away on March 3rd, 2023. Mary lived to be 92 years, 1 month, and 21 days young. She deserved every single one of those seconds on earth. We are certain she has the biggest and most tropical suite in heaven with her late husband Jimmy, her sister Theresa, and the many more that preceded her.

TRUCKEE, Calif. – Caltrans is alerting motorists in Truckee to a closure of the eastbound Interstate 80 on-ramp from State Route 89 through mid-August, for ongoing roadway improvements.

To access eastbound I-80, motorists can take a detour along westbound Donner Pass Road to the eastbound I-80 on-ramp, as shown on the map above.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - The El Dorado County Area Agency on Aging has a limited supply of Senior Farmers’ Market check booklets for El Dorado County older adults who meet age and income guidelines. Each eligible senior may receive one booklet. Each booklet has five checks redeemable for $10 each to be used at Certified Farmers’ Markets to buy fresh fruits, vegetables, cut herbs, and raw unprocessed honey. Checks are good at Certified Farmers’ Markets in California.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Is it you? A Powerball ticket sold in South Lake Tahoe had five out of six numbers match in Wednesday night's $1-billion drawing. The lucky person bought the ticket at the 7-11 at the corner of Lake Tahoe Boulevard and Carson Avenue.

There was one winner of the big jackpot. That winning ticket was sold at Las Palmitas Mini Market in Los Angeles.

The winning numbers were 7, 10, 11, 13, 24 & red Powerball 24.

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. - Make a plan, assemble a kit, and stay informed – these are key components of emergency preparedness.

Washoe County Emergency Management, in collaboration with the North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District, Washoe County Sheriff's Office, and community partners, will be conducting an evacuation drill in the Second Creek area of Incline Village, NV. The purpose of this exercise is to test the effectiveness of the Regional Evacuation, Shelter, and Mass Care Plan in response to a simulated wildland fire west of the 2nd Creek neighborhood.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The City of South Lake Tahoe has announced an expansion of its hours at the El Dorado Beach Boat Ramp and an update on the Bijou Golf Course.

The boat ramp is now open Friday-Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The last boat launch is at 4:30 p.m. They are closed on Thursdays. A boat inspection is required before entering Lake Tahoe but they are not provided at this ramp.

The Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) reached a new milestone in the first half of 2023 with the highest passenger numbers in fifteen years. In the first six months, the airport served 2.18 million passengers, an increase of 3.6 percent compared to the same period in 2019.

A mere four days before the Caldor Fire erupted in Grizzly Flats, Calif. in August of 2021, our friend, the tall tree hunter Michael Taylor, emailed us that he had located “a special grove of towering white fir” as he was scanning the LiDAR imagery for Eldorado National Forest in the vicinity of Pollock Pines outside Lake Tahoe. Excited by the prospect of surveying the previously unknown and exceedingly tall white firs, he wrote, “We should go there ASAP.”

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. – Douglas County is seeking to fill the unexpired term of the Justice of the Peace in Tahoe Township in anticipation of a vacancy on October 5, 2023. The announcement comes after Justice of the Peace Richard Glasson announced his departure earlier this year.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - The Douglas County School Board is holding a special meeting on Wednesday to discuss terminating the contract with its long-time counsel Maupin, Cox & LeGoy. In their place, the Board is going to discuss hiring the Joey Gilbert Law Firm.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Tahoe Sierra Club is presenting a series of gatherings featuring local experts on a range of topics of interest to residents of the Tahoe basin and the Truckee River watershed. All events will be open to members and to the general public, by advance registration.

On Saturday, June 22, the Sierra Club will be at the Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care (LTWC) Center at 2 p.m. They will be exploring what LTWC does and the types of animals they care for. People will even meet some of their animal friends and learn about their stories.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — Douglas Gregory Edwards, 37, formerly of Berkeley, pleaded guilty Tuesday to setting fire to federal land in the Lake Tahoe area three years ago.

On July 5, 2020, Edwards set three separate fires in the forest and near hiking trails - the Echo Fire, the Upper Fire, and Lake Fire. At the time of the fires, campfires were restricted, and smoking was prohibited except inside of a vehicle or other designated areas.

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - There were record crowds at Edgewood Tahoe last week for the 34th annual American Century Championship. For the event a total of 76,810 fans walked the course to watch the best and brightest stars compete, setting the event attendance record.

LAKE TAHOE, Nev./Calif – There was a record number of participants during this year's 18th annual Tahoe Bike Challenge - more people than ever out of their cars to help improve Lake Tahoe’s environment and communities, according to the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) and the Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition. The two of them once again teamed up to organize the basin-wide celebration through the month of June.

9AM UPDATE 7/19: The Nevada State Police has released a preliminary report on Tuesday's fatal collision. On July 18 at approximately 1:43 p.m., troopers responded to the crash at the intersection of US50 and SR28. An Amador Stagecoach tour bus with 17 passengers was traveling westbound on US50 when an SUV traveling southbound on SR 28 made a left onto US50 east to Carson City. For unconfirmed reasons, the two vehicles collided.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Pretrial, Probation and Parole Supervision (PPPS) Week is July 17-21, and to get the week started off, El Dorado County's Chief Probation Officer Brian Richart cooked a big breakfast for staff on Monday.

Richart's department is 122 strong with staff on both the west and east slopes of the county. Since 2014 Richart has cooked up a big breakfast for staff, and he will repeat what he did in South Lake Tahoe on Monday and again on Thursday on the West Slope.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Celebrating 30 years of family-friendly shows, the Tahoe Improv Players (TIP) are going retro for their July 18th show at the Boathouse Theater at Valhalla Tahoe.

“It’ll be a blast to the past!” says Gerry Orton, director of the Tahoe Improv Players. Orton, along with Frank Riley, co-founded ComedySportz Lake Tahoe in 1993. The troupe evolved into the Tahoe Improv Players in 1997.

They're unpacking their ComedySportz (CSz) Lake Tahoe uniforms, to dress for the occasion … a special grudge match with ComedySportz San Jose.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The Lake Tahoe Community College Foundation has announced that Lisa Maloff, the “Angel of Tahoe,” will be honored posthumously on Thursday, August 17, 2023, from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. at the Lisa Maloff University Center (LMUC) on the Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) campus. The event will recognize and remember Maloff's significant and lasting legacy with tours of the building that bears her name, a presentation, a toast, and more.
