DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) is preparing for the upcoming 4th of July celebration and is wishing everyone a safe and happy Independence Day. Due to the volume of celebrants within the Stateline casino core, Nevada Beach, and Zephyr Cove areas throughout the holiday, DCSO is reminding residents and visitors to be safe and mindful of the laws surrounding the festivities.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A four-passenger Bellanca Super Viking plane had to land at Lake Tahoe airport Wednesday afternoon without the use of its landing gear.

A call came in at South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue (SLTFR) at 6:32 p.m. about a pilot unable to get their plane's landing gear down. By the time the first responders made it to the airport, the plane had already landed on its "belly."

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - The Board of Supervisors unanimously appointed Tiffany Schmid to permanently fill the position of Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) during its meeting Tuesday. The USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) has provided the following helpful information and links to ensure a safe holiday weekend at Lake Tahoe.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Lake Tahoe Environmental Science School (LTESS) of Meyers held its first Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) Challenge: Students Unite to Build a Safe Critter Crossing. The schoolwide event involved students from kindergarten to fifth grade teaming up with buddy classes to construct a safe critter crossing for the protection of local wildlife.

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) is hosting a series of sessions around Lake Tahoe to foster meaningful discussions with Executive Director Julie Regan on critical topics. Morning Coffee Talks in May and June gave community members the chance to share their thoughts on issues affecting Lake Tahoe and our communities like housing, traffic and safety, and major projects.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif - The U-12 South Tahoe Futbol Club (STFC) Coyotes took first place at Come Up For Air (CUFA) by defeating Sporting Santa Clara 2-1 in Sunday’s championship game at South Tahoe High School. The Coyotes defeated Sporting earlier in the tournament, 4-2, and also defeated Battle Born FC (3-0) and the Orchard Valley Toros (2-1).

Coached by head coach Jose Del Rio and assistants Jose Diaz and Juan Castaneda, the Coyotes are made up of sixth and seventh-graders and have amassed an 18-4-1 record this season.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - After a long and destructive winter, it was no surprise that $5 Dump Day 2023 was a busy one! Now in its 34th year, Dump Day is a perennial community favorite. This year the event drew 620 cars through the line, and the Clean Tahoe field crew completed 39 curbside pick-ups for senior or disabled residents, with 438,000 pounds of debris collected in total.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It was a big weekend of baseball in South Lake Tahoe with the Babe Ruth league championship games. In a thrilling final matchup on Sunday, the Yankees beat the Cubs, 10-7. The Cubs couldn't overcome an early deficit, secured by the Yankees taking the lead with a well-executed double by Ryland Wright in the second inning.

Although the Cubs fell short in the end, they put up a valiant effort, collecting four hits in a game dominated by offense. The Yankees managed to rack up an impressive total of 11 hits on their way to triumph.

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) is proposing to temporarily restripe a one-mile section of US50 on Tahoe’s East Shore to reconfigure the highway from two lanes to one lane in each direction, with a middle turn lane. Highway officials say this is a limited test project aimed at enhancing transportation safety and access on the corridor.

On June 21, Melissa Chandler, the leader of the NDOT Corridor Planning & Special Studies Program, emailed Douglas County commissioners according to Commissioner Danny Tarkanian.

LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The Tahoe Fire & Fuels Team (TFFT) is scheduled to continue prescribed fire operations this week at Lake Tahoe. Conditions and weather permitting, the USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit is planning to conduct an understory burn on 13 acres near the east side of Pioneer Trail between Jicarilla Drive and Golden Bear Trail on Wednesday, June 28, 2023. Forest Service fire prevention staff and partners will be onsite answering questions on Wednesday from 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. on Pioneer Trail across from Jicarilla Drive.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Flatstick Pub will be holding a week of events during the American Century Championship at Lake Tahoe. In collaboration with Tahoe Art League, Flatstick Pub has announced an art competition that takes inspiration from the electrifying energy of a battle of the bands. On July 14 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. the "battle" brings together renowned celebrities from various artistic disciplines, providing a unique platform to showcase their talents.
