The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center offers the following:

Never leave alcoholic drinks unattended where pets can reach them. Alcoholic beverages have the potential to poison pets.

Do not apply any sunscreen or insect repellent product to your pet that is not explicitly labeled for animal use.

Always keep matches and lighter fluid out of your pets' reach.

Knee arthritis is one of the most common diseases to affect adults over the age of 50. It can seriously impact a person’s mobility, making it difficult to enjoy everyday movements like standing, walking, and exercising.

There are many causes that can lead to arthritis including trauma and rheumatological conditions, however, the most common is osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis (OS) is typically genetic and is considered degenerative, or a “wear and tear” type of arthritis.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Since 2017, Bread & Broth has provided Lake Tahoe South Shore food-insecure children with nutritious groceries and kid-friendly meals over the summer. This year’s B&B 4 Kids Summer Program begins on Wednesday, July 5, and continues every Wednesday through August 23 when children get ready to return to school.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Lake Tahoe Library will host Wild Things, Inc. on Friday, July 7. The free outdoor show starts at 2 p.m. at 1000 Rufus Allen Blvd in South Lake Tahoe. Wild Things Inc. will bring an exciting mix of animals and share a message of conservation and appreciation for wild animals.

This program is part of the library's Summer Reading Challenge.

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. – Drivers Beware! Throughout the year the Lake Tahoe Basin experiences fluctuations in the number of visitors and vehicle traffic. The winter ski and summer recreation seasons bring more vehicles to the Tahoe Basin, which increases the risk of bears being struck by vehicles. Bear-vehicle collisions pose a risk to bears, people, and property.

The following calls only pertain to the South and West Shore, including Meyers, South Lake Tahoe, Meeks Bay, Tahoma, and the Echo Summit area. SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Local Girl Scout and South Tahoe High School student Sadie Beall envisioned a campaign to educate the people about the dangers of cold water shock. Her dad Lucius, general manager of Tahoe Keys Boat Rentals, would share stories with Sadie about the people who die in Lake Tahoe and she wanted to do something about it.

"It's so preventable, but nobody is listening," Sadie said of cold water shock and the education that surrounds it annually at Lake Tahoe.

Vincent Michael Lee passed away at the age of 65 on June 26, 2023, after suffering a traumatic head injury from a fall. A memorial service will be held for him at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at St. Theresa’s church in South Lake Tahoe, California.

WASHOE LAKE, Nev. – Scientists sampling surface waters at Washoe Lake State Park have identified a potential Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) along the shoreline of the lake. The Interagency HAB Task Force – comprised of officials from the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services, the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection, Nevada State Parks, and the Nevada Department of Wildlife – are working together to ensure the public is notified to help protect the health of park visitors and their pets.

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - The USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) is asking the public to stay on official trails and avoid creating new undesignated trails. One area of particular concern is Rabe Meadow near Burke Creek and Nevada Beach.

National Forest lands in the Lake Tahoe Basin include hundreds of miles of official trails designed and constructed to protect wildlife habitat and water quality.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A four-passenger Bellanca Super Viking plane had to land at Lake Tahoe airport Wednesday afternoon without the use of its landing gear.

A call came in at South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue (SLTFR) at 6:32 p.m. about a pilot unable to get their plane's landing gear down. By the time the first responders made it to the airport, the plane had already landed on its "belly."

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Lake Tahoe Environmental Science School (LTESS) of Meyers held its first Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) Challenge: Students Unite to Build a Safe Critter Crossing. The schoolwide event involved students from kindergarten to fifth grade teaming up with buddy classes to construct a safe critter crossing for the protection of local wildlife.
