Four local boys earn Eagle Scout award

Four local boys from Troop 468 recently received their Eagle Scout Awards; Hilton Atherton, III, Christopher Evans, Aubrey Felton and Quinn Kixmiller. All of them are recent George Whittell High School graduates who reached this lifetime goal with nearly 50 years of combined scouting experience.

Each scout completed the minimum of 21 merit badges; served in a leadership role within the troop; remained active in the troop; and planned, developed and completed a service project. Hilton’s project involved erosion control at Camp Galilee, Quinn improved environmental protections along the Lam Watah Trail, and Aubrey and Chris refurbished a school and playground in Thailand.

The fact that a boy is an Eagle Scout has always carried with it a special significance, not only in Scouting, but also for these young men as they enter higher education, business or industry, and community service. Only about five percent of all Boy Scouts earn the rank of Eagle Scout. As these are some of the last scouts from Troop 468, chartered by the Tahoe Douglas Rotary Club on the Nevada side of the South Shore, this momentous occasion closes a chapter in the troop’s history.
