For the Love of Music - Holiday Season Concert at LTCC

Event Date:
December 7, 2013 - 7:30pm

Have you ever wondered what anyone would do with all the gifts received in “The Twelve Days of Christmas?” Or why spices and seasonings play such an important role in winter holiday celebrations? Come to the Tahoe Choir and Lake Tahoe Community College Chorus presentation of “For the Love of Music” on December 7 or 8 to find out.

In this choral music celebration, Choir Director Linda Mitchell has selected “something for everyone.” The concert consists of a range of music, including favorite classical and popular songs, some serious and some funny, with traditional holiday music thrown in. Accompanied by pianist Salli Parker, Mrs. Mitchell will lead the choir in singing the beautiful “Wedding Cantata” by Daniel Pinkham, Felix Mendelssohn’s “He, Watching Over Israel,” the chorus from the one act opera “Amahl and the Night Visitors” by Gian-Carlo Menotti, along with a few other classical selections for the season. Our comical side comes out in “The Twelve Days After Christmas” and a few movements from P.D.Q. Bach’s “The Seasonings.” A select ensemble of singers will perform traditional madrigal songs from the Renaissance. And sprinkled throughout the concert, soloists, small groups, the whole choir, and willing audience participants will sing a few popular carols and a carol medley.

The Choir will perform the concert in the evening at the Lake Tahoe Community College Duke Theater on Saturday, December 7 at 7:30 PM, and a matinee on Sunday, December 8 at St. Theresa Catholic Church at 3:00 PM. Tickets are being sold in advance by choir members and will be available at the door. General admission is $10, student and senior tickets $8, and children five and under are free. Please join us in our 42nd year of presenting concerts to the community, singing “For the Love of Music.”
