Parents and students can have fun with science and TERC

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. - The UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center (TERC) is closed, but they are sharing with parents, teachers, students, caregivers a list of free STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) resources.

Due to the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic schools across the country, including UC Davis, are shut down. TERC has been closed its science centers and suspended regular program offerings.

They said they realize the challenges many parents who have had to home school their children may need help getting through the normal day-to-day schooling.

TERC is showing how learning together can be fun. Find their resources by visiting tinyurl.com/scienceathomeresources. Each resource has the recommended grade level for learning, whether it is intended for educators or direct student use, and a brief description. Check out the various resources for some of our top choices for at-home, STEM education. These activities include a combination of indoor and outdoor activities that can be done in or around your home, as well as instructional videos.

This resource is intended to be for the community by the community. This is a working list and a live document that TERC hopes everyone will continue to suggest new resources and ideas to share. If you know of additional resources that would be beneficial to include in this list or have additional thoughts to share, please comment those additions directly on the document or email recommendations to tercinfo@ucdavis.edu.

Some of the classes included are Mystery Science, SnowSchool, and Exploratorium Science Snacks, along with Citizen Science Tahoe app and coding for students, parents, or teachers for Grades K-12.
