Woman arrested after allegedly licking items at South Lake Tahoe grocery store

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A South Lake Tahoe woman was arrested on Tuesday, April 7 after store employees allegedly found her licking items, and licking her fingers before putting things into her shopping cart.

The mid-town Safeway at the corner of Johnson and Lake Tahoe Boulevards called the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) after an employee said they spotted 53-year-old Jennifer Walker putting pieces of jewelry from the store on her hands and licking them.

According to SLTPD, Walker began to load her cart with merchandise from the store after licking her hands.

Officers located Walker inside of the store with a shopping cart full of merchandise. An investigation revealed that Walker had no means to purchase any of the items.

The Safeway employee informed the officers that all the items in the suspect's shopping cart were deemed unsellable due to the cross-contamination. The approximate value of the items was $1,800.

Walker was subsequently arrested for felony vandalism and was booked in the El Dorado County jail without further incident. As of Wednesday afternoon, she was still in custody on $10,000 bail.
