Good Morning Lake Tahoe Skiers & Riders…

We survived the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend and resorts that remain open this week and for the season continue to make snow and spin lifts. Kirkwood has scheduled Chair #6 – Cornice Express to offer top to bottom skiing & riding. Mammoth Mtn. & Mt Rose also open top to bottom. More snow predicted to come through with a Winter Storm Watch starting Wednesday.

Today’s Weather: Expect Partly Cloudy Skies. Highs: 46F-51F (-10F@8000 ft.). Light Winds.

Tonight: Mostly Cloudy. Lows: 21F314F. Light Winds becoming southwest around 10 mph after midnight. Ridge gusts up to 60 mph after midnight.

Tuesday:Rain and Snow in the afternoon. Snow level 7500 to 8000 ft. Snow accumulation up to 2”. Highs: 43F-48F. Southwest Winds 10-20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph. Ridge gusts up to 85 mph.

WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FROM WEDNESDAY EVENING THROUGH LATE THURSDAY NIGHT…

* WHAT… Heavy snow possible. Total snow accumulations 6 to 12 inches, except 1 to 3 feet above 7000 feet possible. Winds could gust as high as 65 mph over the higher terrain of the Sierra.

* WHERE… Greater Lake Tahoe Area and Mono County.

* WHEN… From Wednesday evening through late Thursday night.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS… Travel could be very difficult to impossible with long delays possible. Heavy wet snow could cause tree branches to break.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS… Now is the time to prepare an emergency kit for your home and car. If traveling consider alternate plans, remember to carry tire chains, extra food, water and clothing. Once the storm arrives, travel may be difficult or impossible for an extended period of time.

WHAT TO WEAR: Dress warm, in layers with your good Jacket or Shell. Take warm gloves, a hat or beanie, and wear a Helmet for Safety. Also wear good Goggles. Don’t forget to use Sunscreen and to Stay Hydrated at Altitude!

SURFACE CONDITIONS: Surface Conditions are Early Season Conditions with Machine Groomed mixture of natural snow and machine-made snow. Machine Groomed & Skier-Rider Packed Snow. Watch for marked & unmarked obstacles.

SAFETY MESSAGE: Stay on designated Opened Trails only. Keep an eye out for marked and unmarked obstacles. Slow Down and observe safety signs on trails with high concentration of skiers and riders… Know the Code! Always stay in control. Be able to avoid objects and people in your Path! Please stop to side of the run where it is safe and always check uphill for skiers and riders before restarting downhill.
