SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A 19-year-old man from Dayton, Nevada was arrested in South Lake Tahoe on Friday after he was allegedly found with an illegal and loaded weapon.

On April 5, 2019, at 2:19 p.m. the Douglas County Sheriff's Office called the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) with a "Be On The Lookout" for a black Mercedes with a passenger that was brandishing an AR-15 style weapon.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It was a day of crazy socks, mismatched shoes and untied shoelaces at the Sierra House Elementary campus at Al Tahoe Learning Center Thursday in celebration of World Down Syndrome Day.

Kindergarten teacher Amy Terpening organized #RockYourSocks day in her classroom and held a surprise celebration of her student Dylan Polan who has Down Syndrome. The six-year-old came through a tunnel created by her fellow students and then sat down to be "interviewed" by her teacher. The students displayed paper socks they decorated with fun shapes and colors.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Dozens of school teachers in the Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) filled the board room in South Lake Tahoe last Tuesday to show trustees they want a cost of living increase to their pay.

Jodi Dayberry, President of the South Tahoe Educators Association, led the teachers in their presentation to the LTUSD Board of Trustees, telling the five elected members teachers are struggling due to the high cost of living and many have second jobs and summer jobs to fill their financial void.

Some experiences are life changing. They top our grateful list and remain in our memories and hearts forever. Participating in Tahoe Parents Nursery School (TPNS) was one of those experiences for me and for my family.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - All El Dorado County offices including the library in South Lake Tahoe are closed Friday due to severe weather. Please note that the library was already scheduled to be closed Saturday through Monday for the Presidents' Day Weekend.

All three El Dorado Savings branches in South Lake Tahoe will close at 5:00 p.m. Friday due to snow. The Al Tahoe Branch is scheduled to be open on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Kahle Community Center is closing at 3:30 p.m.

Lake Tahoe Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR), is now officially chartered in South Lake Tahoe. The Daughters of the American Revolution is a 501(c)(3), non-profit, non-political, women’s service organization.

It focuses its community and national service in the areas of:

- Historic Preservation - Al Tahoe Historic Cemetery, preservation of family histories

- Education - literacy, path to U.S. Citizenship (Naturalization), American History education and essay contest, genealogy workshops

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Thousands of music fans and dozens of performers are headed to South Lake Tahoe for the 8th annual SnowGlobe Music Festival from December 29-31. Before they get here, hundreds of workers are spending many hours preparing the scene from the delivery and installation of stages, tents, electrical cables, ski jumps, trailers, vehicles and port-a-potties.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Shore is full of activity as visitors and locals alike say goodbye to 2018 and welcome in 2019.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - When Laura Alvarez De Ruiz, her husband and three children found themselves homeless just a week before Christmas their future was uncertain.

De Ruiz and her family filled one of six apartments at 3546 Spruce Avenue until December 17. That was when they had to vacate their home after the landlord failed to provide safe housing for residents and the City of South Lake Tahoe shut it down.

On Thursday, December 13, 2018, Stephen Bannar, loving husband and father of Brandon and Allison, passed away at the age of 55. Stephen was born in Camden, New Jersey on March 18, 1963. He graduated from Rutgers University in 1985 and completed his Medical Degree from Pennsylvania State University in 1990. Stephen practiced Orthopedic Surgery for 25 years. On May 18, 1991, he married Barbara Lee Storck. They raised two children Brandon and Allison.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The third graders from Sierra House Elementary are now at the Al Tahoe school site, and on Monday, December 17, the rest of the students will join them. At first it was believed that work could possibly be completed by the time students return to school after the holiday break but now that the hired restoration specialists are getting into the walls and ceiling the scope of work has increased.

Belfor cannot commit to the scope of work until the crews get into their job, so the plan is to prepare for the worst and hope for the best. As of today, the

12:43 p.m. - Burglary - Rubicon Trail, Tahoma - A CABIN WAS BURGLARIZED.

After further evaluation on their school restoration and cleaning plan, Belfor has asked Sierra House Elementary to be vacant starting the week of December 17.

This access with no students or staff present will facilitate clean up and reconstruction so that the job can be completed thoroughly and with integrity by the time school resumes after the Christmas break.

In order to accommodate Belfor, Sierra House Principal Karin Holmes has let those affected they will be moving all of students and staff to Al Tahoe Elementary School (the Lake Tahoe Boy's and Girl's Club site).
