Positive results for Humane Society of Truckee Tahoe during their first two months

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CALIF. – Providing a much-needed service in the community, the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe (HSTT) has been filling a void with special pet therapy training, wellness clinics, spay and neuter programs.

Since opening in December 2019, HSTT has provided over 100 spay and neuters to the community for free or at a reduced rate. They have also trained 60 new volunteers.

South Lake Tahoe police arrest parolee after multiple attempts to escape; Search on for second man

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A 25-year-old South Lake Tahoe man has been arrested on multiple charges after he tried to escape police custody twice on Tuesday, February 4, 2020. Christopher Hendrickson has been arrested on charges of resisting arrest, escape from custody, corporal injury to his spouse, willful cruelty to a child, forcible entry into a property and felony vandalism.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It took almost a full week of the new year to welcome in the first baby born at Barton Memorial Hospital. Everett James Haen came into the world at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 7.

Everett was born at the hospital's Family Birthing Center to Robert Haen and Shaina Willen, MD. He weighed six pounds 15 ounces and measured 19.5 inches long.

Arrests and medical issues down during second day of SnowGlobe in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. The second night of the 9th annual SnowGlobe Music Festival in South Lake Tahoe is in the books.

From a law enforcement side, things have been fairly quiet when compared to past years. On Monday night there were 35 citations issued by the Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC), all related to minors in possession or adults furnishing alcohol to minors.

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department arrested two people for public intoxication at the event.

Meyers man severely beaten in Christmas Eve attack

MEYERS, Calif. - A Christmas Valley man was attacked in his driveway by an unknown person late Christmas Eve as he sat in his car.

At 11:00 p.m., deputies from the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO) responded to the home in the area of Saint Nick Way. They found the victim with serious injuries and he was transported to Barton Hospital, and later transferred to Renown Medical Center in Reno via medical helicopter.

EDSO reports the suspect has been described as a white adult man, 6 feet tall weighing about 200 pounds, with grey hair and a grey beard.

South Lake Tahoe community responds to Wishing Tree at Live Violence Free

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There were 185 wish lists hanging on the tree inside Live Violence Free this year, all from clients who have been served over the past year. The nonprofit agency in South Lake Tahoe provides advocacy and education to promote a violence-free community.

Each client wrote down three gift ideas with ages and likes, and people picked out a hanging ornament with that list, all amounting to about $50 per child.

Law enforcement spends the day reading with kids and giving away gifts in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Deputies from the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO) and officers from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) joined forces this holiday to help spread cheer and gifts to children in the community.

On Saturday, December 21, the deputies and officers collaborated to provide a book reading, meet and greet with Santa and gift-giving to the children of South Lake Tahoe. The kids thought they were coming for the popular SLTPD Books & Badges and were treated to a BIG surprise.

Barton Gala raises $90K for Family Birthing Center in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – More than 250 community members gathered for the 29th annual Barton Gala at Harrah's Tahoe on December 7. Their pledges and donations during the evening hit a record-breaking $90,000 to support community health in the Lake Tahoe area.

This year’s Gala beneficiary was the Family Birthing Center at Barton Memorial Hospital, with proceeds from the black tie soiree funding medical equipment and training to keep at-risk newborns close to their families in those precious first moments together.

US50 near Sierra-at-Tahoe reopens after head-on collision

7:15 p.m. UPDATE: All lanes have been reopened on US50 west of Sierra-at-Tahoe after a two-car head-on collision between a van and a SUV just after 5:00 p.m. Sunday. All injured parties have been transferred to Barton and the vehicles have been towed away.

At this time the extent of injuries is unknown but unconfirmed reports say all are minor at this time.

Woman arrested on felony DUI charges after two-car collision in South Lake Tahoe

7:45 p.m.- A 44-year-old woman has been arrested on felony DUI charges after the Nisan XTerra she was driving collided with a Toyota Tundra on US50 and Ski Run Blvd. in South Lake Tahoe at 5:12 p.m. Friday, December 20.

She is currently at Barton Hospital being treated for an injury and to have her blood drawn (at her request). Once released she will be booked into the El Dorado County Jail in South Lake Tahoe, according to SLTPD Sgt. Nick Carlquist.

Climb Up! Program in South Lake Tahoe to give under-served youth climbing experiences

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A new, free mentorship program for at-risk, low income youth has been launched by the Tahoe Climbing Coalition in South Lake Tahoe.

The Climb Up! program is planned to improve the lives of under-served youth by introducing them to the adventure and joy of rock climbing. Climb Up! uses mentorship to teach youth about five core values which can be applied to climbing and can carry over into all aspects of life: Communication, Balance, Trust & Teamwork, Resilience and Confidence.

Angel of Tahoe helps spread holiday joy in South Lake Tahoe for a third year

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Tahoe Youth & Family Services (TYFS) helped spread cheer this season by hosting a special children’s holiday party on Saturday, December 14 at the Lake Tahoe Community College. This event was a collaboration made possible by the generosity and giving heart of the ‘Angel of Tahoe,’ Mrs. Lisa Maloff. Big crowd shows up to welcome Humane Society back to South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe (HSTT) has opened an office in South Lake Tahoe to better serve the community and they celebrated along with a full crowd at their grand opening reception on Tuesday.

HSTT came to the aid of the South Shore after the former director of the Lake Tahoe Humane Society embezzled almost $60,000. Its members tried to hold the 51-year-old agency together but it disbanded in January of this year, never being able to gain back the trust of the community.

Turkey Trot and Gobble Wobble raise almost $4K for Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - This year's Turkey Trot and Gobble Wobble were once again successful, this time raising almost $4,000 for the Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless (TCH).

The City of South Lake Tahoe and TCH were cosponsors of the event and are thanking the community for their support.

“This event just keeps getting better and better and that is thanks in large part to the community support,” said Recreation Superintendent Lauren Thomaselli. “This year's Turkey Trot was one of the best we’ve had and all raised money and donations for some very worthy causes.”

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The designer holiday-themed trees have filled the room all weekend at the Barton Health Festival and Trees & Lights. There is still one day left for the public to view them as the annual event wraps up on Sunday, December 8.

All of the trees are beautiful and it was a tough decision by a group of community judges to come up with winners of five distinguished categories.

The epic giveaways on KRLT with Ricky, Howie and Lisa - $120,000 and counting

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - What do you get when you mix two angels with a comic on morning radio in Lake Tahoe? Daily cash giveaways that can turn an ordinary day into something magical.

It started on November 7, 2018. Ricky Reich, a local man who has become known as "The Angel of Tahoe's Guardian," walked into the studios of KRLT-FM on Kingsbury Grade in Stateline, Nevada. He had been listening to Howie Nave's Morning Rush shown on the station and wanted to pay homage to Lisa Maloff, the Angel of Tahoe.

The community is invited to gather and celebrate the memory of loved ones lost at ‘Light up a Life,’ hosted by Barton Hospice. The annual nondenominational ceremony will take place Wednesday, December 4, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the North Room at Edgewood Tahoe. Light refreshments will be served.

Barton Hospice staff will share readings and a remembrance message, and attendees will have the opportunity to reflect and acknowledge those who have passed. The event will culminate with the lighting of a tree decorated with photo ornaments honoring individuals lost.

The da Vinci Xi System features the latest in robotic-assisted surgery that is minimally invasive and can reduce a patient’s time in the hospital. SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It was one of the largest crowds ever gathered at the American Legion to celebrate and honor local veterans. Part of that crowd were two 99-year-old veterans and a 2000 STHS graduate who will soon be a commander in the US Navy, veterans of other wars, family, first responders and community members.

Finalists named for 12th annual Blue Ribbon Awards

Opinion: Sierra Boulevard is at an end; Looking forward to the next beginning

It's been one heck of a summer in terms of driving around town. Between Echo Summit and the Meyers roundabout, the horrible accident at Elks Club, US50 through town and then the construction at Stateline that caused delays back to Zephyr Cove in mid-September. Luckily, the Stateline issue was quickly remedied, the highway at Elks Club seems mostly repaired, and the Meyers roundabout turned out great.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - An active shooting training at South Tahoe High School last week gave local, state and federal agencies the opportunity to use their collaborative skills in responding to an emergency at the school.

In the simulated event after school, a call went over the radios on a secure channel to alert all first responders of a shooting at the high school and with the shooter still on the loose. At the first call, there were seven "victims" (volunteers acting for the training).
