SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County health officials say another 15 residents have tested positive for COVID-19 since Friday. Of those, two are in El Dorado Hills, one in Greater Placerville, two in North County, two in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue, and 10 in the Lake Tahoe region.

One of those new cases, one is under the age of 18, four are aged 18-49, seven are aged 50-64, and three 65 or older.

Another 223 people were tested for the coronavirus and 208 negative tests results were received.

South Shore casinos see big gain in September; Statewide revenues down 22 percent

STATELINE, Nev. - Nevada’s non-restricted gaming licensees reported a total “gaming win” of $821,132,375 for the month of September 2020, the fourth month of casinos reopening in the state after being closed due to the coronavirus. This amounts to a 22.38 percent decrease compared to September 2019, when licensees reported a gaming win of $1,057,935,421, according to the monthly report released by the Nevada Gaming Control Board.

The twenty-two percent decrease is almost identical to the loss experienced the prior month for the state.

Douglas County confirms positive COVID-19 exposure at election polls

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - County officials say the election process will not be affected after learning on Sunday, November 1 that a Douglas County employee involved in the election tested positive for COVID-19.

Douglas County has worked closely with Carson City Health and Human Services on contact tracing related to the positive case. Individuals who are considered close contacts to the positive case have already been notified regarding their need to isolate or quarantine.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County health officials say another 41 residents have tested positive for COVID-19 since Friday. Of those, eight are in El Dorado Hills, seven in Greater Placerville, two in North County, one in Pollock Pines/Camino/ Kyburz, two in Diamond Springs/El Dorado, nine in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue, and 12 in the Lake Tahoe region.

One of those new cases, five are under the age of 18, 21 are aged 18-49, nine are aged 50-64, and six 65 or older.

Another 842 people were tested for the coronavirus and 801 negative tests results were received.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County health officials say another eight residents have tested positive for COVID-19 since yesterday. Of those, two are in El Dorado Hills, three in Greater Placerville, two in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue, and one in the Lake Tahoe region.

One of those new cases, six are aged 18-49, one are aged 50-64, and one 65 or older.

Another 178 people were tested for the coronavirus and 170 negative tests results were received.

Larry Schaffer - Long time resident dies at the age of 76

Larry Eugene Schaffer passed away on October 28, 2020 after a brief illness. He was 76-years-old.

The son of Harold and Mary Schaffer. Larry grew up in the San Fernando Valley. Larry enlisted in the Marines at age 18 where he was a radio mechanic during the Vietnam War. After the Marines he attended California State University Northridge and received a degree in Sociology. He went on to receive his Master’s degree.

Upon his return from the war Larry married Elizabeth Anne Brewer who preceded him in death after 10 years of marriage. Larry and Beth had one son, Jason Schaffer.

Man airlifted to Reno after serious motorcycle crash on SR89

A Wellington, Nevada man was flown by a Careflight medical helicopter to Reno after going over a cliff with his motorcycle Saturday night.

At 5:00 p.m., the California Highway Patrol (CHP) says Troy Costa, Sr. was riding his Harley southbound on SR89 about a mile north of the SR4 junction when he failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway. Their report says Costa was ejected from the motorcycle as it went over a cliff adjacent to the East Fork of the Carson River.

He sustained severe injuries and transported by air to Renown Medical Center in Reno.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has upgraded their previous warnings for the Lake Tahoe Basin. There is now a Red Flag Warning in effect Saturday, October 10 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect.

The combination of gusty winds and extremely dry fuels can cause fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first responders can contain them, so use extreme caution.

On April 18, 2017 the South Lake Tahoe City Council unanimously passed a resolution to: 1) Power the South Lake Tahoe community with electricity provided from 100 percent renewable sources by 2032 and 2) Reduce community carbon emissions from baseline by at least 80 percent by 2040, and reduce municipal emissions by 50 percent by 2030.

This is the largest number of cases for a three-day period since the pandemic started.

COVID-19 case update for Lake Tahoe area counties

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County health officials say another nine residents have tested positive for COVID-19 since yesterday. Of those, two are in El Dorado Hills, two in Pollock Pines/Camino/Kyburz, two in Diamond Springs/El Dorado, four in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue, and a -1 for the Lake Tahoe Region due to a previously reported case not being a resident.

Of these new cases, one is under the age of 18, three are in the 18-49 age group, three in the 50-64 group, and two aged 65 or older.
