Minden elementary school students get hands-on education at Barton 


"I hope one-day that I'll be able to use the da Vinci again," said one fourth-grader from Grace Christian Academy in Minden, Nev. One-day he just may. 

Parents and teachers of the 18 little visitors who drove from Minden on Thursday managed to keep third and fourth graders in-line during a two-hour tour at Barton Memorial Hospital. With wide open eyes, the questions soared and the excitement was building just before they made their first stop to the operating room.

LTCC Theater Arts Department presents 'Lone Star' and 'Laundry and Bourbon'

Democrats Continue To Outpace Republicans In Nevada Voter Registration

CARSON CITY — Democrats continue to out-register their Republican counterparts, with the latest data from Clark County now showing a more than 100,000 voter advantage as the deadline to participate in the Nov. 6 general election draws ever closer.
Today just before noon the Clark County website, which updates registration totals regularly, showed 346,703 Democrats registered to vote compared to 246,479 for Republicans, a 100,224 advantage.

South Shore Lake Tahoe celebrates fall with Germany in mind during OktoberFest at Camp Richardson Oct. 6-7. This annual festival dishes up two full days of great food, hand-crafted items, family games and numerous drink samplings. Admission is free and so is the parking.

Saturday is the Great Sierra River Cleanup with more than 11,200 volunteers joining together to scour watersheds throughout the Sierra Nevada. Hundreds of community groups will spread across 22 counties and 1,052 river miles to pull appliances, cigarette butts, beverage cans, baby diapers, tires, furniture, and more from the rivers and streams that supply the State of California with 65 percent of its water. This effort, in partnership with the California Coastal Cleanup Day, serves to promote good stewardship on all of our waterways, from the source to the sea.

Tahoe Douglas fire station pancake feed to benefit local charities

The community is invited to the breakfast, which runs from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. with proceeds to go to local South Shore Lake Tahoe area charities. The cost is $5 for adults. Children 12 and under are free.

As Labor Day weekend nears, Vail Resorts now offers season passes for the 2012-13 season. The Lake Tahoe Local Pass offers access to more than 263 trails, 14 terrain parks and 10,270 acres of terrain at Heavenly, Northstar and Kirkwood in California and Nevada. Ski or ride more than four days in one season and, priced at $419, the Tahoe Local Pass pays for itself, then ski or ride for free the rest of the season.
