Learn about Measure F which will be on the November ballot. The bond will bring in millions of dollars to Lake Tahoe Community College to create a new fire academy, upgrades of technology and many other necessary changes.

The meeting will be held in the Aspen Room/Board Room of LTCC on Thursday, September 18 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

College officials will be hand to answer your questions, discuss how bond money will be used, review the ballot question, and highlight oversight and accountability measures.

LTCC Tapped to Join CA Community Colleges Online Education Initiative

Lake Tahoe Community College has been chosen by the California Community Colleges’ Online Education Initiative (OEI) as one of eight colleges that will participate in the OEI’s full pilot launch, slated to take place from Fall 2014 through Spring 2016. LTCC was selected based on a number of criteria, including its accreditation standing, its well-established online degree programs, and its well-established professional development program to assist faculty with online education-oriented services and course design.

Agencies and public work together to keep Lake Tahoe beaches clean

The Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority would like to thank all of our community members, visitors, businesses and agencies who have helped keep our Lake Tahoe beaches clean throughout a busy summer season. Debris on Lake Tahoe’s beaches affects everyone’s enjoyment of the lake, and trash and debris on the beaches and streets can easily find its way to the lake and adversely impact lake clarity, water quality and wildlife.

LTCC to receive $17,085.85 check from Liberty Utilities

Energy saving improvements at the Lake Tahoe Community College will soon pay off financially when Liberty Utilities presents a check for $17.085.85 to the LTCC board of directors on September 9.

The check represents all of the rebates the college was eligible for after the improvements were used on campus starting in 2013.

Actors wanted for LTCC production of "Leading Ladies"

The Theatre Arts Department at Lake Tahoe Community College is seeking men and women of various ages and types for their upcoming production of the hilarious comedy Leading Ladies by Ken Ludwig.

Auditions are Tuesday, September 23 at 7 p.m. in the LTCC Duke Theatre. Performances will be held November 14-23, 2014.

City gives support to Lake Tahoe Community College's Measure F

Lake Tahoe Community College gained the support of the South Lake Tahoe City Council today in their pursuit of $55,000,000 in bond funds through Measure F. The Council voted unanimously to adopt the support resolution.

Dr. Kindred Murillo, Superintendent/President of the Lake Tahoe Community College District, was on hand at Tuesday's City Council meeting to provide an explanation of what the bond would mean to the South Shore community and answer any questions the five council members had.

Full day of South Lake Tahoe activities on tap for Sunday

Visitors and locals alike will find a variety of activities to enjoy in South Lake Tahoe on Sunday, August 31.

The highlight of the day will be the Annual Labor Day Fireworks show. The show features a simultaneous music broadcast that can be heard on local stations KRLT-FM 93.9 and KOWL - AM 1490. Show begins at 8:30 p.m. The fireworks are visible from all over town.

Pop-Up Dinner to raise funds for grow dome at Sierra House Mountain Academy

The kick off event for this weekend's Sample the Sierra will be a fundraiser for the Geodome/Grow Dome at Sierra House Mountain Academy.

Pop-Up Dinner will be held at the Lake Tahoe Community College from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The menu is curated and cooked by Chef Stephen Moise, the Executive Chef of The Ridge Tahoe and former Corporate Chef for Tommy Hilfiger. The meal will highlight local ingredients, including produce from the University of Nevada-Reno, ribs from the Carson Valley and crayfish from Tahoe Lobster Company.

New guidance and planning program at LTCC helps keep students on track

Guidance and Planning for Success, or as it's known on campus, GPS, is a new state mandated program that requires all students at Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) to complete a new student orientation, take Math and English assessment tests so they are placed in courses that match their needs, and to work one-on-one with an LTCC counselor on a personalized Educational Plan prior to enrollment.

GPS is required for both new and returning students.

South Lake Tahoe locals create Bakpocket eco-products

A new business in South Lake Tahoe is the creation of South Lake Tahoe locals Bryan Burnam and Jacob Hanneman, who have taken their passion for the outdoors to start Bakpocket Products.

Since August 8, the company has their newest product, the Adventure Hammock, listed on Kickstarter, which is a global funding platform designed to help small startup companies to promote their projects and products.

Generation Green Graduates

Students from the South Lake Tahoe area graduated from Generation Green, a program designed to introduce students to careers in natural resources management through a transformative summer experience.

Election picture clear with all candidates now known

With the filing deadline now passed, the list of candidates for South Lake Tahoe City Council and City Clerk, South Tahoe Public Utility Board and the Lake Tahoe Community College Board of Trustees is now known. These positions, along with the El Dorado County Supervisor for Area 5 will all be voted by local voters on during the November 4.

Soccer fever has hit the campus at Lake Tahoe Community College as both the men's and women's intercollegiate teams prepare for the 2014 fall season.

We miss Kaleb

Kaleb James Martin Curtzwiler died Aug. 9, 2010. He was 28.

Mr. Curtzwiler was born Jan. 27, 1982, at Barton Memorial Hospital in South Lake Tahoe.

The 2000 South Tahoe High School graduate was an avid soccer player. Although he did not ski competitively, it was a sport he participated in with his family and one that he excelled at.

The day after he graduated from high school he joined the Navy. His father, Kenny Curtzwiler, who was a Captain in the Nevada Army National Guard, swore him in. Mr. Curtzwiler served for five years, rising to the rank of E5.

One week left for LTCC candidates to file for November election

There are three seats up for grabs in the November election for the Lake Tahoe Community College Board of Trustees. Trustees from areas 1, 2 and 5 are up for re-election.

Area 1 is currently represented by Kerry David, who has announced his intention to seek re-election. Area 2 is currently represented by longtime Board member Roberta Mason, who is retiring from her seat after 40 years of service to the college. Area 5 is currently represented by Molly Blann, who announced in June that she is not seeking re-election.

Gary Noy, author of Sierra Stories: Tales of Dreamers, Schemers, Bigots and Rogues autographs books for local agency

The author will make a presentation and sign books to help raise money for the agency.

Keep your cool: How to avoid heat-related llnesses

As an emergency room nurse, I have cared for visitors and locals who experience heat-related illnesses. This includes dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. It is important to understand the differences, especially when exercising in an area like Lake Tahoe with higher altitudes and higher temperatures.

Lake Tahoe Has Select Force of Wildland Firefighters

Lake Tahoe is now home to the Tallac Hotshots, a select force of 20 wildland firefighters from the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU).

The group completed a demanding and extensive certification process on June 19, making them the first Interagency Hotshot Crew from Lake Tahoe.

Formerly the Tallac Hand Crew, the Tallac Hotshots join an exclusive group of roughly 2,000 firefighters across the country.

FitKid Summer Sports Camp Held in South Lake Tahoe

There is one more chance this summer for kids to attend South Lake Tahoe's FitKid Summer Sports Camp put on by Lake Tahoe Community College and Tahoe Center for Orthopedics.

The final camp will be held July 28 through August 1.

Campers, ages 7 to 13, enjoy a week-long summer sports camps that focuses on improving health, wellness, and athletic performance. Campers learn: proper exercise techniques, team-building, sports-specific techniques, and how to make healthy nutritional choices.

The cost is $185 (includes snacks, camp t-shirt, and water bottle.

LTCC brings Professional Dancers and Choreographers to South Lake Tahoe

Lake Tahoe Community College One Step Closer to Offering 4 Year Degrees

The likelihood of four-year degrees coming to Lake Tahoe Community College just got a major boost. A bill authorizing California’s Community College System to launch a limited baccalaureate degree pilot program was just approved by the State Assembly Committee on Higher Education. Senate Bill 850 (SB 850) allows 15 California community colleges to offer one 4-year degree as early as January 1, 2015, and starting no later than the 2017-18 academic year. The bill already passed through the state Senate back in May by a 34-0 vote.

Broadway Smash Hit Musical Man of La Mancha at LTCC

The Theatre Arts Department at Lake Tahoe Community College is presenting the classic Broadway musical Man of La Mancha in the Duke Theatre from June 13 through June 22. This Tony Award-winning musical, directed by Susan Boulanger, with musical direction by Mark D. Williams and choreography by Angela Smith, is presented as part of the celebration marking the 40th anniversary of LTCC.

Artist Avery Palmer Coming to Lake Tahoe Community College

Artist Avery Palmer will be at Lake Tahoe Community College on Friday, June 20 in the school's room F101. Palmer will present a lecture on his artwork, including a slide show, as well as participate in a demonstration and discussion of his ceramic techniques.

The school's Art Club is hosting the free event which is open to the public.

Palmer is an emerging artist from San Jose, CA. who specializes in drawing and painting as well as ceramics.

TRiO--Upward Bound at South Tahoe High Is Looking for New Members This Summer!

The Upward Bound Program (UB) at South Tahoe High School is currently accepting applications for this Summer’s Academy and the next academic year!

Students in grades 9-12, including rising 9th graders, are encouraged to apply. UB is the newest TRiO grant at Lake Tahoe Community College and is designed to provide fundamental support to high school students in their preparation for college. UB serves 60 students who are from low-income families, who are potentially the first in their families to go to college, or students who are at risk of academic failure.

Tahoe Area REALTOR® And His Team Raise Over $2,700 For Local Community Causes

This spring, local REALTOR® Gregory Cremeans has been actively raising funds for the Reno/Sparks Relay for Life and the Tahoe Pride Equality Scholarship program, which he founded.

In the past month, Gregory hosted a scholarship fundraiser and client appreciation party at TOAST, a locally owned restaurant in Zephyr Cove, NV. This event raised over $700 benefiting Lake Tahoe Community College students.

Public Invited to LTCC Soccer Showcase

Tickets For South Lake Tahoe's SnowGlobe Go On Sale Friday

The lineup hasn't been chosen yet, nor have the prices been set or packages been released, but that doesn't seem to matter to SnowGlobe fans.

The South Lake Tahoe New Year's outdoor concert has become one of winter's "Must Do" events, so when they announce tickets are going on sale, concert goers will grab them.

Tickets will go on pre-sale on Friday, May 30 on their website. No other information is available as of yet, but you can sign up for email notifications.

School Board Has Two Part - Day Long Meeting Tuesday

Over 200 women flocked to Lake Tahoe Community College for the fourth annual “Mom’s Morning Out” on Saturday, May 3.

Tahoe Regional Plan Being Challenged in Court by Sierra Club Once Again

A coalition of all counties present at the lake along with residents, environmental groups, legislators and business groups were behind the Tahoe Regional Plan and urged its adoption in 2012. Since that time, the Sierra Club and "Friends of the West Shore" have sued (in February 2013) to oppose the plan, lost their motion (April 2014) and now, as of May 7, have filed an appeal to the court's decision to uphold the 2012 Lake Tahoe Regional Plan.

Easter Egg Hunt at LTCC Saturday

The 47th annual South Lake Tahoe community Easter egg hunt will be held at Lake Tahoe Community College on Saturday, April 19 at 10:30 a.m.

The South Tahoe Optimist Club is hosting the event which will hide 2,500 eggs throughout the parking lot near the college gym.

Children will be sorted by age group and an area will also be designated for children with special needs. Prizes will be handed out.
