Lake Tahoe resorts welcome spring with events and new snow

Spring is in the air at Lake Tahoe, and Heavenly Mountain Resort, Northstar California and Kirkwood Mountain Resort are gearing up for spring skiing and riding with concerts, competitions and new snow. The three resorts each received between 12-21 inches of snow since Saturday, March 31, and March snowfall totals range from 110-146 inches.

St. Patrick's Day at Heavenly; Killebrew Canyon to open Sunday

With between two and four feet of new snow in the last 24 hours, Heavenly plans to open Killebrew Canyon on Sunday, marking the first time this season the double-black, off-piste terrain has been open.
Heavenly Lake Tahoe opens expert terrain at Mott Canyon

Now with 3,600 open acres, Heavenly is offering the most skiable terrain at Lake Tahoe.
New Snow Allows Heavenly to Open Milky Way Bowl

After receiving 12” of new snow on Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning, Heavenly Mountain Resort will open Milky Way Bowl for the first time this season, giving the resort additional expert and off-piste terrain. Heavenly will have 50 percent of the resort open, totaling 2,400 acres.
New Snow At Heavenly in time for holiday weekend

Ski resorts report up to 2 feet of snow from the system which arrived Friday and continues today. The National Weather Service in Reno reports that a second and much colder storm will move into the area on Sunday into Monday, dropping temperatures and bringing more snow. With the Vail Resorts tie-in Heavenly Mountain Ski Resort and the newly renamed Northstar California mountain site are entering the early opening race behind Boreal. This is rare for Northstar to open early and with the new trails it's gotta get the season to a quick start. I hope to be there!

Who said there's never any good news on Thursdays? The folks over at SnowGlobe Music Festival report that the advance and early bird tickets for the Dec. 29 through New Year's Eve concerts have sold out. But there are plenty of tickets remaining for the regular 3-day and VIP passes, according to the website.

Lakeview Commons Project Update Video

Approaching from the western side is the boat ramp, and a newly constructed Boathouse. The downstairs will feature storage lockers for paddle boards and kayaks, restrooms, and a boat rental area. Upstairs will be a concession stand and patio with a gas fire pit and a more commercial size barbeque with a cook top.
Lakeview Commons Project Nears Completion

The City of South Lake Tahoe hosted a special project walk-through at the Lakeview Commons Project Site Thursday afternoon, and revealed the almost-finished product that the city hopes will be a jewel in the recreation crown for the area.
“It’s going to be the Sand Harbor of South Shore” said Jim Marino, Capital Improvement Manager with the City of South Lake Tahoe.

Nevada’s nonrestricted gaming licensees reported a total “gaming win” of $886,861,912 for the month of August 2011, 6.10 percent decrease compared to August 2010, when licensees reported a gaming win of $944,457,344. Gaming profits in Stateline in August 2010 were 23,518,599.
