High speed pursuit ends in Carson City with suspect dead

A high speed pursuit on U.S. Highway 50 East through Lyon County ended when the suspect vehicle left the roadway near Flint and Highway 50 in Carson City. The suspect reportedly had a gunshot wound to the head when he was found by law enforcement officers and died at the scene.

The vehicle was a white Dodge Durango rental vehicle with California license plates. The vehicle pursuit, according to police scanner monitors, reportedly started at USA Parkway, then into Dayton and Mound House, exceeding speeds of 100 mph. No officers were injured.

South Lake Tahoe man sentenced to 7 years in prison for DUI crash

South Lake Tahoe resident Patrick Bryan Baker was sentenced to seven years in state prison after he pleaded no contest to one felony count driving with a blood alcohol level over .08% and causing injury.

Vehicle accident at Zephyr Cove

6:40 p.m.: The crash has been cleared and the road is open with no restrictions.

Expect delays Friday evening in the eastbound lanes of Highway 50 in Zephyr Cove near Martin Drive. According to the Nevada Highway Patrol there was an injury crash just before 5:00 p.m. February 23.

No other details are available at this time.

NHP kept busy with multiple weather related crashes including 34-car pileup

The weather on Thursday, February 22 kept local law enforcement busy with collisions and stranded motorists on local roadways, During the afternoon hours alone, the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) responded to a 19-vehicle crash and a 34-vehicle crash.

At 2:00 p.m., NHP troppers responded to eastbound Interstate 80 about four miles east of Sparks to a call of a four vehicle and one tractor/trailer crash. Upon arrival they found that 19 vehicles were involved, including several tractor trailers with both lanes blocked. Eight people involved in the crashes were transported to area hospitals.

Minden man identified as Monday's plane crash victim

A Minden, Nevada man has been identified as the pilot of the Piper PA-34 Seneca that crashed into a Douglas County field on Monday, February 19, 2018.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) has identified the deceased pilot as 64-year-old Stephen Filice.

At about 11:30 a.m. Monday, DCSO deputies and East Fork Fire Protection District crews responded to a report of a plane crash in northern Douglas County in the vicinity of Hobo Springs Road, west of Highway 395 and south of Plymouth Drive.

Holiday traffic and slick roads keeping tow trucks and law enforcement busy

North Upper Truckee and Sawmill Road have become parking lots Monday afternoon, reminiscent of 2017's problems of ill-equipped vehicles on snow covered back roads.

The California Highway Patrol and El Dorado County Sheriff's Office have spent Monday responding to several calls in the Meyers area of cars stuck on side roads as they attempt to circumvent the backlog of traffic on Highway 50.

Along with those issues there have been several accidents and as of 3:30 p.m, State Route 88 may have to close due to a crash

Two injured in South Lake Tahoe collision

South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue (SLTFR) had to use extrication equipment Friday after two vehicles collided at the intersection of 4th Street and South Avenue, sending two to the hospital.

At 4:35 p.m., both SLTFR and South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) responded to the crash. A two-year-old had been sitting on the lap of the passenger in the red car show in the photos. While the driver and toddler were able to get out, the passenger had to be cut out, the safer of the options available according to SLTFR Battalion Chief Tim Spencer.

Head-on collision in South Lake Tahoe sends six to area hospitals

Update 6:45 p.m.: The driver of one of the vehicles, a 29-year-old woman from Stateline, Nevada has been arrested on charges of a Felony DUI and is in the El Dorado County Jail on $125,000 bail.

She was driving a Range Rover eastbound when, for reasons unknown at this time, she traveled into the westbound lane, striking a BMW with five occupants, ages 19-31, all from the Bay Area. The Range Rover was traveling about 40 mph at the time of impact according to the CHP. This is the speed limit at that area of Pioneer Trail.

NHP: 81-year-old Carson City woman dies in Saturday crash

A two vehicle crash Saturday morning on South Carson Street at the intersection of Koontz Lane has claimed the life of an 81-year-old Carson City resident, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Rosemary Frenzel Stroup died from injuries sustained in the crash that happened at around 8:50 a.m. Saturday. According to NHP, troopers responded to the serious injury crash on South Carson Street at the intersection with Koontz Lane.

Man extricated from crashed truck on Pioneer Trail in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CALIF. - A man from Northern California is recovering after suffering from a medical condition that caused him to crash his Chevy Silverado pickup into a tree Sunday morning in South Lake Tahoe.

At 9:12 a.m. January 7, emergency crews responded to the crash site on Pioneer Trail near Needle Peak Road. South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue had to extricate the unidentified man from the truck.

The man, who is in his mid-40s, was alone in the truck when he had a seizure. Witnesses reported seeing the driver attempt to pull his truck off the roadway prior to the crash.

Vehicle fatalities decline, pedestrian and cyclist deaths rise on Nevada roads

The Nevada Departments of Transportation and Public Safety are reminding Nevadans to share the road after Nevada pedestrian traffic deaths rose in 2017 amid a decline in overall statewide traffic deaths.

In 2017, Douglas County had a rise in all deaths on the road: Fatal crashes up from 5 to 9, fatalities up from 5 to 11, alcohol fatal crashes up from 1 to 2, and number of fatalities in those crashes up from 1 to 3.

A former South Lake Tahoe resident visiting family for the holidays on the South Shore was on his way home to La Mesa, California when he and girlfriend were involved in a three-car head-on collision south of Kramer's Crossing on Highway 395 near Victorville on December 28, 2017.

Chris "Coco" Cocores, 26, was in a Toyota Corolla driven by his girlfriend, 21-year-old Cecilia Casares, when the car crossed over a solid yellow line to pass a slower vehicle, according to the California Highway Patrol. They collided with two vehicles heading northbound.

There has been a single vehicle rollover on Kingsbury Grade/SR-207, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO).

As of 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 26, emergency crews were at the scene and traffic is backing up.

It is unknown at this time if there are any injuries.

Traffic heading up Kingsbury Grade/SR-297 has been at a standstill, but according to DCSO dispatch, a single lane of traffic is flowing so alternation of eastbound and westbound travel is expected.

Snowboarder identified in Thursday's accident at a Lake Tahoe resort

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO) has identified David Karlin of Orangevale, California as the man who died after a snowboarding accident at Sierra-at-Tahoe Thursday.

The 23-year-old man fell at approximately 1:15 p.m. December 7 as he was snowboarding and slid at a high rate of speed down the Lower Snowshoe run and into a fence near its intersection with the Sugar N' Spice run. Sierra-at-Tahoe ski patrol called for paramedics and air support.

Man arrested on felony DUI charges after crashing into two cars and light pole

A Fallbrook, California man was arrested in South Lake Tahoe Saturday after allegedly driving at a high rate of speed through Stateline while intoxicated before hitting two cars and a light pole.

One Carson High teen dies from injuries in Kings Canyon crash

Family members confirmed via social media Sunday that 16-year-old Carson High School student Timothy Jones, one of seven students involved in a Nov. 9 crash on Kings Canyon, has died.

Timothy had been in a medically induced coma since the accident, in which two other high school students were critically injured. Timothy was an honor student and played baseball for Carson High School.

Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said he was briefed Sunday by the Medical Examiner’s Office.

South Lake Tahoe Police urge safe driving this holiday

Winter is upon us as we begin to see light snowfall and cold, icy conditions. Every year families travel to South Lake Tahoe for Thanksgiving and Christmas, leading to congested roadways and an increase in pedestrian traffic. Many of these travelers are foreign to winter weather and do not have much experience driving in icy conditions. The South Lake Tahoe Police Department reminds motorists to be alert and courteous so that everyone can arrive at their destination and enjoy the holiday season with their friends and loved ones.

El Dorado County awarded DUI prosecution grant

Those arrested for DUI in El Dorado County, especially repeat offenders and those involved in fatal or injury crashes, can expect to face highly trained, specialized prosecutors, funded by a $195,677.00 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS). The grant to the El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office will fund a Vertical Prosecution team that will work cases from arrest through conviction and sentencing.

Accidents in Sierra as storm front passes

There are slick roads Thursday morning as rain is falling at lake level and snow fluctuating above 7,000 feet.

The California Highway Patrol is reporting a jackknifed big rig on SR-88 just west of Silver Lake near Tragedy Springs Road. The truck is blocking the west bound lane and part of the east bound lane. Crews are on the scene of the incident which was reported at 7:43 a.m.

Chain controls are up east of Kirkwood on SR-88.

Two dead after car collides with cement truck on SR-88

Two people died Wednesday afternoon after a Suzuki SUV collided with a cement truck on State Route 88 at Centerville Lane in Minden according to the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP).

One of the occupants of the SUV died at the scene and the other occupant was transported to Renown Medical Center via Care Flight with life-threatening injuries. They later died at the hospital according to NHP's Twitter page.

Both lanes of SR-88 were closed for awhile as emergency crews responded to the crash.

No names have been released.

Gardnerville man dies in crash near Red Lake Road

A 38-year-old Gardnerville man died Monday after colliding with a big rig near Red Lake Road.

At 9:25 a.m., a Toyota Highlander was heading eastbound on State Route 88 near the curve at Red Lake Road when, for known reasons, crossed into the opposing lane into the path of a Freightliner truck with a 40-foot trailer.

The 55-year-old driver of the truck from Mokelumne Hill, Calif. was not injured.

No names have been released and the cause of the collision is still under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.

Two transported to hospital after Cave Rock crash

The westbound lanes of Highway 50 near Cave Rock were closed for awhile Tuesday morning after a two vehicle collision.

According to Dan Gordon of the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP), a shuttle bus pulled out from Cave Rock Avenue into the path of a vehicle. Two people were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Gordon said.

As emergency personnel tended to the victims and cleaned up the scene, both lanes of traffic were diverted to the eastbound lanes. All lanes were reopened by around 11:00 a.m.

Incline Village resident dies in Reno crash

The Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) is investigating a Reno crash that killed 76-year-old Karin Schulze Brown, a resident of Incline Village.

At approximately 5:00 p.m. Saturday, October 7, 2017, NHP Troopers responded to a serious crash in front of the main entrance to Tamarak Junction on South Virginia Street in Reno.

The driver of a 2011 Jeep Liberty had pulled out of the casino to make a left turn onto South Virginia Street right into the path of Brown who was headed southbound in the left lane, driving her 2001 Mercedes Benz.

Pollock Pines man identified as victim in deadly Spooner Summit crash

The Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) has released more information in Saturday's deadly motorcycle crash in Lake Tahoe that claimed the life of a California man.

At approximately 11:54 a.m., NHP troopers were called out to the scene of a serious motorcycle crash about one mile east of Spooner Summit.

Pollock Pines resident Justin A. Breese, 19, was riding his 2008 Kawasaki motorcycle eastbound on US50 when he lost control and was ejected. He succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Speed may be a contributing factor in this crash according to NHP.

One dead, others injured in motorcycle crashes on area highways

There was a fatal motorcycle crash on U.S. 50 about a mile east of Spooner Summit just before noon Saturday, September 30.

The east bound lane was closed for about three hours as emergency personnel responded to the scene and conducted an investigation. Their cars surrounded the victim, keeping passerby from seeing the scene.

The Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) said it was a single vehicle crash and speed is believed to be a factor.

The accident happened about 11:54 a.m. No other details were available.

South Lake Tahoe motorcyclist identified in fatal Hope Valley crash

The California Highway Patrol today released the name of the South Lake Tahoe woman who died in Sunday's motorcycle crash in Hope Valley.

Charleen R. Blackburn, 64, was riding her Harley Davidson westbound on SR-88 and slowing at the junction with SR-89 at 4:48 p.m. on September 17. She was making a left turn onto southbound SR-89. At the same time, a 58-year-old woman from Gardnerville, Nevada was traveling eastbound on SR-88 in her Buick La Sabre, and approaching the same intersection at approximately 50-55 mph.

South Lake Tahoe man killed in Douglas County collision

A South Lake Tahoe man has been identified as the person killed Sunday night in a vehicle versus pedestrian collision in Gardnerville, Nev.

At approximately 8:05 p.m. on September 17, Nevada Highway Patrol troopers responded to the serious crash on US-395 near Industrial Way.

For unknown reasons, 54-year-old Rosendo Ramirez Amaya was lying down across the northeast right lane of the highway when the driver of a Toyota Sienna was unable to avoid traveling over him. He succumbed to his injuries.

South Lake Tahoe woman dies in motorcycle crash

An afternoon motorcycle ride through Hope Valley turned fatal for a 64-year-old South Lake Tahoe woman on Sunday, September 17.

At approximately 4:48 p.m., the unidentified woman was riding her Harley Davidson westbound on SR-88 and slowing at the junction with SR-89. She was making a left turn onto southbound SR-89. At the same time, a 58-year-old woman from Gardnerville, Nevada was traveling eastbound on SR-88 in her Buick La Sabre. She was approaching the same intersection at approximately 50-55 mph.

Family thanks those who helped at RV fire on Kingsbury Grade

It was a crash scene that parents never want to see their children involved in. On Sunday, August 27 a recreation vehicle (RV) was making its way down Kingsbury Grade towards Lake Tahoe when it experienced brake failure, crashed and caught fire.

Both occupants were transported to Barton Hospital in South Lake Tahoe with non-life threatening injuries.

Three injured in DUI crash in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A 21-year-old California woman is facing charges after the car she was driving crashed into a tree in South Lake Tahoe early Sunday morning.

The suspect told officers she was driving her 2003 Mercedes on Pioneer Trail just before 1:30 a.m., east of Highway 50, when she veered to avoid an animal she said was in the roadway. She successfully avoided the undetermined animal but instead drove her car into a tree on the south side of the roadway.

Fatal crash in Douglas County closes Hwy 395 in both directions

Highway 395 near Industrial in Douglas County is currently closed after a fatal crash near the Meadowdale Center.

Traffic in the area is being diverted so expect delays.

The collision occurred about 9:30 p.m. Sunday. No other information is available at this time.

Woman injured after crashing into traffic signal

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE - A local woman was injured Saturday afternoon and she crashed her van into the light signal at the corner of Lake Tahoe Boulevard and Takela Drive.

The unidentified woman was transported to Barton Hospital with serious injuries.

A traffic signal was knocked off the pole, leaving it dangling over Lake Tahoe Blvd. Caltrans is on their way to South Lake Tahoe from Sacramento to fix the light.

At 1:40 p.m., 58-year-old Larry D. Ferguson was riding east on McKinney Rubicon Springs Road in Tahoma when he was struck by a gray mid-sized SUV traveling west as he made a turn onto Bellevue Avenue.

SR28 reopened after boulder on roadway causes injury accident

State Route 28 has reopened this morning after an early morning accident involving a four-foot boulder.

One person was transported to the hospital with unknown injuries after their car was found on its side with the boulder near by. It is unclear at this time if the boulder hit the car as it rolled down or if it was already on the roadway.

The 5:53 a.m. accident took place three miles north of U.S. 50 on August 29.

A downed tree was also found next to the tree and boulder.

Both lanes on State Route 28 were closed for two hours after the crash but have since reopened.

Two hospitalized after RV crashes and burns on Kingsbury Grade

9:30 p.m. update: According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, the RV had mechanical failure, its brakes failed on the downhill lake side of Kingsbury Grade. The vehicle then crashed and caught fire. Both the driver and passenger were taken to Barton Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

8:00 p.m. update: Kingsbury Grade is open. There are no other details available at this time other than the motorhome is a total loss after fire consumed it. Flames moved into nearby grass but was quickly extinguished.

Condition of the driver and their passenger is unknown at this time.

Fatal crash in Washoe Valley

A Las Vegas man died early Tuesday in a single vehicle rollover crash on Old US395 in the Washoe Valley just north of Bellevue Road.

At about 5:30 a.m. on August 22, 42-year-old Frederick Inman was headed north in his white Toyota pickup. The truck went off the roadway to the right and overturned.

Inman was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, impairment is suspected in this crash.

Minor injuries in two separate Highway 50 crashes Sunday

Two separate minor crashes on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe Sunday caused some delays for drivers, but no major injuries were reported.

A driver near Glenbrook on Highway 50 was involved in a single-car rollover, causing damage to the SUV but only minor injuries.

In a second accident, not paying attention to the road ahead resulted in a collision at Marla Bay on Highway 50. Minor injuries in this crash as well.

Both crashes were cleared up fairly quickly.

No other information was made available by the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Kids say "thank you" to Lisa Maloff for vehicle donations

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - When local philanthropist Lisa Maloff found out the Lake Tahoe Boys & Girls Club was without truck after the South Shore facility lost it in a crash, she generously donated money for its replacement.

On Thursday, August 10, the kids and staff of the club thanked Lisa with a ribbon cutting ceremony and large "thank you" poster, along with ribbons in Lisa's favorite color, pink.

Crash at Tahoe Keys Blvd. in South Lake Tahoe causing traffic jam

A two-car accident at Tahoe Keys BLvd. and Highway 50 has traffic jammed up through South Lake Tahoe and send two people to the hospital Friday.

One car was T-boned, their airbag was deployed and South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue had to extricate the driver.

Two people were transported to Barton Hospital with mild to moderate injuries.

Both cars were being hooked up to tow trucks at 12:00 p.m. and traffic should start flowing soon.

The cause is unknown at this time and this is a developing story. More details will be released shortly.

Three-car crash near Sierra sends two to hospital

The California Highway Patrol released their report today of the July 29 three-car collision on US50 east of Sierra at Tahoe Road that sent one to Renown on Care Flight and another to Barton, both with multiple injuries.
