Since 2010, the organization has engaged with over 56,000 students through in-school natural history programs, field trips, and nature camps. They offer programs for people of all ages - hosting hundreds of presentations and guided nature outings for thousands of participants. All of their programs are supported by a foundation of important, ongoing biological research.
Nevada under new safety measures after surge of COVID-19 deaths and positivity rate
Submitted by paula on Sun, 11/22/2020 - 6:52pmGovernor Steve Sisolak announced a "at least a three-week statewide pause" to protect Nevadans from the pandemic due to a surge in positive cases and deaths. Starting Tuesday, November 24 at 12:01 a.m. there will be tighter business restrictions and a stricter mask mandate in the state of Nevada.
Many thought he would be calling for a shutdown in the state, but instead he chose the "pause" at this time. Sisolak said ten percent of all COVID-19 cases in Nevada since beginning of pandemic have been recorded in the last seven days.

The I Run With Maud-South Lake Tahoe group is holding a rally at Lakeview Commons on Sunday, September 27 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. to celebrate free speech, inclusion and diversity.
Organizers said they'd like to see many of our neighbors represented at this fun, safe, family-friendly, peaceful event. They expect to have a variety of local speakers and an event that is "inspiring, uplifting and overwhelmingly positive for the South Lake Tahoe community.
Volunteers to help are also needed.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The local grass roots activist organization, IRunWithMaud - South Lake Tahoe, is holding a peaceful protest/neighborhood rally at Lakeview Commons on Sunday, September 27 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The rally is to celebrate free speech and will include local speakers. The South Lake Tahoe City Council recently read a proclamation that all of South Lake Tahoe including Lakeview Commons are "free speech" areas to be used for traditional public forums allowed under the First Amendment.

Douglas County officials give update on Saturday's protest

Cement walls have alread been installed to block motor vehicle traffic on Water Street to allow participants to move safely and freely on foot in the area. The protest is planned for 11:00 a.m. on August 8 on the steps of the Judicial Law Enforcement Center in Minden. The road is planned to be closed until Monday.

Even now, a week after the on-camera murder of George Floyd, an unarmed black man, by police officers, and all of the fallout felt nationwide, I’m still trying to understand the world, how to respond as a community leader, and how to explain it to my kids. All of the frustration, sadness, and outrage — it all seems so familiar since we’ve all been witness to these acts before, all seen and read and heard about cases of unarmed black people and other people of color killed in police custody when it was clearly avoidable.

The next evening of the Community Lecture Series hosted by the Foster and Kinship Care Education Program at LTCC will focus on trauma. Learn about different types of trauma and how trauma impacts individuals and entire groups. Participants will exam various case studies and conduct activities to increase self-awareness and unpack 'isms in order to increase cultural competence from a trauma-informed care perspective.

Forest Service to address 90 of 723 invasive plant populations at Lake Tahoe

In just six hours López showed the students how to create not only a work of art from several large blank panels, he also showed how to create community by collaboration and teamwork and celebrate diversity, literacy and aspiration.

It was a full house at the event which was hosted by the South Lake Tahoe Police Officers, the California Nurses and the South Lake Tahoe Firefighters associations and gave everyone a chance to hear from the nine candidates about their views before the November 6 election. Fuel reduction plan released for over 3700 acres of National Forest lands
Submitted by paula on Mon, 04/23/2018 - 8:31pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Fuels on 3,737 acres of South Lake Tahoe area National Forest lands will be reduced by thinning forest stands and removing forest biomass vegetation, prescribed burning, and reforestation.
The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) announced the the final decision on the project last week. This project helps decrease the risk of wildland fires and complements defensible space treatments implemented by local municipal fire districts on adjacent non-federal lands.

After a popular, and sold out, inaugural event in 2016, TEDx South Lake Tahoe is coming back and promises to be bigger and better.
The TEDx license only allowed 100 attendees at The Loft during its first year, but after a trip the New York and a TEDx main event, local organizers were able to qualify South Lake Tahoe for a larger audience in 2017.
Report: Lake Tahoe is getting warmer, trees are dying and algae is increasing

These and other findings were released today in the UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center (TERC) annual Tahoe: State of the Lake Report for 2016. The year was marked by the hottest temperatures on record followed by a winter of unprecedented levels of rain and snow in the Sierra Nevada.
TERC Director Geoffrey Schladow presented the report at a free public talk July 27 in Incline Village.

Spiranac is on the South Shore for her first American Century Championship.
The 27 kids listened to Spiranac who is a national ambassador for the Cybersmile Foundation and, as a victim of cyberbullying growing up, Spiranac regularly addresses children on how to prevent and combat bullying.
USFS to start chemical treatment of invasive species in Lake Tahoe
