Parking a Hot Topic at South Lake Tahoe City Council Meeting

Paid parking remains a hot topic in the city which was proven by the packed house at Tuesday's South Lake Tahoe City Council meeting. On the agenda was discussion and possible action on an initiative to prohibit paid parking on city streets.

Tahoe 4 Tahoe (T4T), a local group organized to fight paid parking, gathered more than the required signatures to get the initiative put on the ballot, but legal precedence and unforeseen consequences of the proposed initiative led the city council to vote unanimously to have a Fiscal Impact Report completed in the next 30 days.

Douglas County looks at new environmental plan for Lake Tahoe

The Douglas County Board of Commissioners will consider approval of a new area plan for Lake Tahoe’s South Shore on Thursday, June 2. The Douglas County Area Plan is the first to be proposed since the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency adopted the Regional Plan Update in December 2012.

Their accumulated academic, business and / or civic activities are also considered. It is expected that nominees attribute their success in life in some way to the knowledge and experience they gained while attending Lake Tahoe Community College.

LTCC Needs Community Input to Develop New Vision

Lake Tahoe Community College is holding a visioning session on Saturday, June 8 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the LTCC Board Room next to the Library. The community is invited to contribute to a conversation about the future of the College as we move toward 2020.

Changes in state regulations are forcing LTCC to change what we do and who we serve. These changes have created challenges that must be overcome if LTCC is to continue serving the communities of Lake Tahoe.

United Way partners with grants to help Lake Tahoe area agencies

Several Lake Tahoe area nonprofit organizations and agencies will receive financial aid this year through partnerships announced Monday by the United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra.

Tahoe planning agency Governing Board meeting schedule announced

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency has announced the schedule of presentations for the Regional Plan Update rollout taking place at two upcoming Governing Board meetings on April 25 and 26.
The plan update contains five draft documents for the public, partner agencies and decision makers to review at a minimum for the next two months. Public discussions about the Update will continue through the year, with the Board expected to take final action on the plan by the end of 2012. Documents being released Wednesday include the following:

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency is updating the schedule for the release of the Regional Plan draft documents for late April, according to TRPA officials, and remains committed to completing the updated Regional Plan by December 2012 as scheduled.

Feminist Artist Joanna Frueh Workshop at Sierra Nevada College

League to Save Lake Tahoe Names Darcie Goodman-Collins as New Executive Director

South Shore native Darcie Goodman-Collins has been named the new executive director of the League to Save Lake Tahoe, officials announced today. She replaces Rochelle Nason who resigned last September.

“I’m very excited to move back to Lake Tahoe. I grew up skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, and waterskiing on our beautiful lake. I am passionate about science, education, and the Lake. I will lead the League’s efforts to restore the Lake and work hand in hand with the local community to do so,” said Goodman-Collins in a news release.

TRPA Planner Earns Chamber’s Blue Ribbon Award

Tahoe Regional Planning Agency employee Gary Weigel was honored as the recipient of the South Shore Chamber of Commerce’s Blue Ribbon Award in the Public Agency Service category for his exemplary customer service as a Senior Planner at TRPA.

“I was shocked and pleasantly surprised when I found out I had been selected for a Blue Ribbon Award by the community,” Weigel said, “but also very excited. It’s a tremendous honor.”

TRPA’s Executive Director, Joanne Marchetta, agreed.
