Hooters World Wing Eating Championship at the Heavenly Village

The Hooters World Wing Eating Championship takes place Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at Lake Tahoe’s Heavenly Village from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Joey Chestnut, 2017 champion Geoffrey Esper and 2015 champion Matt Stonie will all be competing in a grueling 10-minute all-you-can-eat contest of Hooters world-famous chicken wings.

The competition will be taking place in the center plaza.

Admission is free.

South Lake Tahoe restaurants give local law enforcement free meals all week

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A group of restaurants will be showing their appreciation to local law enforcement from June 3 to June 9, 2019.

This isn't the first time Azul Latin Kitchen, California Burger Co., Social House Deli and Ten Crows BBQ have honored those who are tasked with the responsibility of protecting the community. They have had first responder days, and most recently, days to say "thank you" to snow removal crews.

Public invited to US50 Main Street Management Plan Open House

The next phase of the Highway 50 South Shore Community Revitalization Project (SSCRP) begins with an open house on its Main Street Management Plan on Wednesday, May 29 at the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) office from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The public is welcome to drop in any time.

SSCRP, commonly referred to as the Loop Road Project, will include seven more key components to be completed by the TRPA and Tahoe Transportation District (TTD). The first of those components is the Main Street Management Plan.

South Lake Tahoe Police officers credited with preventing mass shooting

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Officers with the South Lake Tahoe Police Department were honored Thursday for their roles in the apprehension of a triple-homicide suspect on April 26, 2019.

The suspect allegedly wanted to kill more victims at South Lake Tahoe's Heavenly Village, making the officers' heroic actions that night even more important to the public's safety, according to SLTPD Chief Brian Uhler.

Man who led police on pursuit into Nevada now a suspect in three murders

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - The suspect arrested in Douglas County after engaging law enforcement in gunfire after a pursuit Friday night is now the suspect in three Bay Area homicides.

Stefon Jefferson, a 43-year-old man from the San Francisco area, started Friday off by allegedly fatally shooting a man in Oakland at 10:14 a.m., another in San Francisco at 1:27 p.m. and a third in Berkeley at 2:40 p.m.

Double homicide suspect in custody after South Lake Tahoe to Douglas County pursuit

UPDATE 8:30AM 4/27/19: An observant officer from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) was on patrol near the Heavenly Village at approximately 9:45 p.m. Friday night when he saw a car listed on a Bay Area police "Be On The Lookout" report go through an intersection. The report said the driver was a suspect in two homicides, one in each Oakland and San Francisco.

He followed the vehicle and attempted to pull it over with the assistance of another officer, but the driver took off and a pursuit began.

Lime scooters return to South Lake Tahoe with contract, new fees

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Lime is returning to South Lake Tahoe this summer, but with some changes both visibly and financially during a new one-year trial period for 2019.

After much discussion on Tuesday night, the City Council unanimously approved a new contract with Lime that will bring up to 550 scooters to town this season, but, as reported before, the bikes are not returning.

The Council wanted to make sure not all 550 will appear on opening day at the beginning of May and will work with Lime to start slow.

Paid parking to be added to Bellamy Court near Stateline

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The City Council decided today by a vote of 5-0 to have City staff to start the design process that will allow up to 47 new parking spaces along Bellamy Court in the Heavenly Village area in South Lake Tahoe.

Howie's House of Comedy opens in The Loft Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Local celebrity, radio show host and comedian Howie Nave has teamed up with Paul Reder, co-owner of The Loft Tahoe, to bring national touring comedians to the intimate showroom inside the Heavenly Village.

Howie's House of Comedy will be open every Sunday in the Loft Theater starting March 3. Known for its award-winning magicians from around the world, the theater will now have some of the best names from the world of stand up comedy.

City asks public to weigh in on Heavenly Village parking proposal

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There could soon be up to 57 new paid parking spaces around the Heavenly Village to help address the need for parking in the Stateline area of South Lake Tahoe

On Wednesday, South Lake Tahoe Police Chief Brian Uhler presented his proposal to about a dozen people who attended a public meeting at the Marriott Grand Residence.

City-owned paid parking kiosks have been in storage since 2014 when Measure P put an end to the use of paid parking in various areas within the City limits, something approved by City Council in 2012.

A 'perfect storm' led to closure of South Lake Tahoe's Ski Run Blvd

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Sunday was an epic day on the slopes with at least 30" of snow falling overnight at resorts around Lake Tahoe. Some couldn't open because of too much snow, while others opened some runs to overflowing crowds waiting to experience the conditions.

Heavenly Mountain Resort's Boulder and Stagecoach parking lots filled up early, with drivers directed to park at the Gondola at Heavenly Village and the California Main Lodge, both filling up soon after.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Each year Azul Latin Kitchen selects a local nonprofit to be the recipient of their fundraising for the year. In 2018, Live Violence Free (LVF) was the recipient of that generosity and today were presented a check for $16,917.50 at a ceremony at Lake Tahoe Community College.

The popular restaurant in the Heavenly Village in South Lake Tahoe had Tahoe Youth & Family Services as their nonprofit of choice last year and Tahoe Arts Project will get the funds in 2019.
