The South Lake Tahoe Fire Department has been unable to keep up with completing the duties of fire inspections due to reduced staff and an increased work load for the busiest fire department in the basin.

When the position of Fire Marshall was eliminated during 2011 budget cuts the tasks fell upon the fire department. SLT Fire Chief Jeff Meston said that his department currently lacks the expertise to complete the fire inspection duties.

El Dorado County Connections - One Stop is hosting a free hiring event on Wednesday, October 1, 2014, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the El Dorado County Child Support Services building located at 3883 Ponderosa Road in Shingle Springs. The hiring event will be conducted by Wollborg/Michelson Personnel Service, who is looking to fill multiple positions for a large El Dorado Hills area health care provider. Job openings are available in positions such as Data Entry Clerks, Customer Service Representatives, and Group Level and Member Level Processors.

The El Dorado County Grand Jury has released their final report for the 2013-14 year and several South Lake Tahoe situations have been brought to light.

According to Jury Foreman Neil Cunningham, the jury compiled 20 reports and recommendations which were created as they followed up on inquiries from citizens and Grand Jury required inspections.

The LTUSD Board gets out of the board room and into the schools Tuesday as they have their Annual Student Lunch meeting. They will have lunch with about 20 selected students at South Tahoe High in the new Student Union. The students are a cross section of seniors who will be sharing their thoughts with the board.

Benjamin Wade and Christian DeLeon were hired as the new LTCC soccer coaches at Tuesday night's Lake Tahoe Community College Board meeting. Both coaches will head up the newly established intercollegiate soccer program at the college. Wade will be the men's head coach and DeLeon the women's.

Sierra-at-Tahoe® Resort will host a job fair to fill seasonal positions for the coming winter season on November 2, 2013 at the Sierra™ Resort base lodge near South Lake Tahoe from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Operational departments will be interviewing and hiring seasonal workers including Lift Operations, Retail, Food & Beverage, Adult Ski & Snowboard School, Wild Mountain Children’s Center, Blizzard Mountain, Guest Services, Parking, Rental & Repair Services and Ticket Administration. Positions range from full-time November through April to Weekends and Holidays only.

After attending the State of the South Shore Economy Public Forum held on October 23rd, 2012 I was inspired to draft a response to the questions about economic revitalization that were asked at the meeting. I feel like our group had many salient ideas that were not properly represented. Also, I have noticed that people are quick to offer ideas like “reduce unemployment”, “beautify the city”, and “improve recreation”, but they are typically unable to offer suggestions on how to make those ideas a reality.

Follow the money trail on the “Hole” fiasco and you will find a mess. When the hole first stopped all of the reasons that were given by Randy Lane were false, wrong and an outright lie to the people of South Lake Tahoe. The real reason work was stopped was due to the two liens filed by two Nevada companies that did work and never got paid. The Great Recession continues to rear its head here at home, with demands on social services soaring and a genuine fear that South Shore’s food bank won’t be able to provide Christmas dinner for a record number of families in need.
For 30 years, the Christmas Cheer food bank has helped families celebrate Christmas with a traditional dinner of turkey and all the trimmings. However, with 800 families expected to be on the list of those to receive a dinner, the charity has only 75 donated turkeys and five hams to give and organizers say they are beyond being nervous.
