CHP Hosts Recruitment Event

On February 28, 2015, the California Highway Patrol’s (CHP) Valley Division Recruitment Unit will be hosting a “Law Enforcement Recruitment Event” at the California Highway Patrol Academy in West Sacramento. The CHP is currently looking to recruit both women and men throughout the state to become CHP Officers. This recruitment event is designed to educate women and men on the endless opportunities and benefits associated with a career with the CHP. Officers will also be available to answer any questions regarding career opportunities and the CHP recruitment process.

Jeff Marsolais named new Forest Service Supervisor for Lake Tahoe Basin

With the retirement of Nancy Gibson, the U.S Forest Service started the search for her replacement. It was announced Tuesday Jeff Marsolais has been selected as the new forest supervisor for the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit.

South Lake Tahoe creates new fire inspector position

The South Lake Tahoe Fire Department has been unable to keep up with completing the duties of fire inspections due to reduced staff and an increased work load for the busiest fire department in the basin.

When the position of Fire Marshall was eliminated during 2011 budget cuts the tasks fell upon the fire department. SLT Fire Chief Jeff Meston said that his department currently lacks the expertise to complete the fire inspection duties.

Findorff named new Tahoe Sports and Entertainment GM

A collegiate Division 1 hockey player and pro prospect was named the new General Manager and Coaching Director for Tahoe Sports and Entertainment, Inc (TSE), the operators of the South Lake Tahoe Ice Arena.

Michael Findorff joins TSE after working for Vail Resorts, most recently as Assistant Manager in Products, Sales and Service. Prior to that Findorff spent two years pursuing a professional hockey career with the New York Islanders and Phoenix Coyotes organizations.

Grand Jury Report Released for El Dorado County: "Thread of Dysfunction"

The El Dorado County Grand Jury has released their final report for the 2013-14 year and several South Lake Tahoe situations have been brought to light.

According to Jury Foreman Neil Cunningham, the jury compiled 20 reports and recommendations which were created as they followed up on inquiries from citizens and Grand Jury required inspections.

School Board Has Two Part - Day Long Meeting Tuesday

The LTUSD Board gets out of the board room and into the schools Tuesday as they have their Annual Student Lunch meeting. They will have lunch with about 20 selected students at South Tahoe High in the new Student Union. The students are a cross section of seniors who will be sharing their thoughts with the board.

Teamwork Between the City of South Lake Tahoe, City Employees and Community Applauded

"Its not often you can come to City Council and look back to see how we got where we are today with such incredibly great news in such a short time," said South Lake Tahoe City Manager Nancy Kerry during Tuesday's City Council meeting.

Kerry highlighted the path the city has been on over the last 12 years, from the years leading to the recession, what happened during the recession, and where the city is headed now that there is a net positive cash flow of over $1,000,000.

Soccer Coaches Hired for Lake Tahoe Community College

Benjamin Wade and Christian DeLeon were hired as the new LTCC soccer coaches at Tuesday night's Lake Tahoe Community College Board meeting. Both coaches will head up the newly established intercollegiate soccer program at the college. Wade will be the men's head coach and DeLeon the women's.

Intercollegiate soccer launched at Lake Tahoe Community College

It’s official: men’s and women’s intercollegiate soccer is coming to Lake Tahoe Community College.

The LTCC Board of Trustees voted in favor of launching the soccer program at its last meeting on June 25. LTCC’s Physical Education Department is developing the curriculum surrounding the program, and a decision on a new team name and mascot will soon follow.

Job announcements for the related coaching positions will be released in August, with hiring decisions finalized by October. The new men’s and women’s soccer teams will take the field competitively starting in September 2014.

Recommendations Regarding 'Economic Revitalization' for South Shore Lake Tahoe

As demand soars, Christmas Cheer makes plea for help

For 30 years, the Christmas Cheer food bank has helped families celebrate Christmas with a traditional dinner of turkey and all the trimmings. However, with 800 families expected to be on the list of those to receive a dinner, the charity has only 75 donated turkeys and five hams to give and organizers say they are beyond being nervous.

City tells employees to come up with budget solutions; final meeting slated for Sept. 27

To a crowd of about 200, the South Lake Tahoe City Council met to hear the 2011-12 Budget Proposal from its city manager and finance director on Thursday.  There was an obvious tension between the council and members of the public who attended the meeting, though the general sentiment of the council and city manager is that the deficit issues are not their fault, and that employee sacrifice is what is required to balance the budget.

November election has 12 candidates, one ballot measure

Amid voting for favorite websites, blogs, restaurants, American Idol contestants and more, residents of South Lake Tahoe have the opportunity to vote in an actual public election. Elections for the Lake Tahoe Community College board, the Lake Tahoe Unified School District board, the South Tahoe Public Utility District board and a ballot measure regarding recreation funds will all be decided by voters on Nov. 8.

LTCC grant to help local kids move onward, upward

Lake Tahoe Community College has been awarded a five-year federal grant designed to provide academic support for 500 low-income, first generation college-bound students from South Tahoe Middle School and South Tahoe High. The Department of Education grant will be consist of five annual payments of about $230,000 each, said LTCC spokeswoman Christina Proctor. The college was informed it had been awarded the grant by the offices of California Sens. Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer.
