Celebration of Life set for Judy Brown

A Celebration of Life is planned on Friday, May 31, for long-time local resident Judy Brown. The casual event will take place from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Flight Deck Bar & Grill inside the Lake Tahoe Airport.

City's flags at half-staff fo honor former South Lake Tahoe councilwoman and mayor

Former City of South Lake Tahoe Councilmember Judy Brown passed away at Renown Medical Center on Saturday, December 8, 2018.

All City flags are lowered to half-mast through Friday, December 14 in honor of her dedicated service to the City. Brown served on the City Council from 1996-2000 and 2000-2004 and was appointed mayor during her term. She was also an active member of the Planning Commission since 2011 and most recently, its chairperson.

Fundraising site opens after former Mayor Judy Brown passes away

Judy Brown, a longtime South Lake Tahoe resident, former mayor, Planning Commission chair, local business owner, wife, mother, grandmother and friend died on December 8, 2018 at Renown Hospital in Reno. She was 72 years old.

More details for family, friends and colleagues will be coming from the family but in the meantime they have opened a fundraising campaign to assist Judy's husband Alan Brown with immediate bills left after Judy's medical issues this year.

SLT Planning Commission has two openings due to resignations

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The City is soliciting applications for two appointments to the Planning Commission to fill vacancies due to the resignations of Jamie Orr and Jessie Dwyer.

Orr is moving out of the City Limits and Dwyer is being relocated out of the area for work. Since all commissioners must reside in the South Lake Tahoe city limits, they can no longer serve.

The terms for the two new appointments will last eight months, until January, 2019.

Ex-Lake Tahoe Humane Society director leaves town, no charges filed yet

Former executive director of the Lake Tahoe Humane Society moved out of South Lake Tahoe over the weekend, leaving many in the community questioning the timing after she was fired on March 31 amidst accusations of misappropriation of agency funds.

Niki Congero moved out of her rental home because she was given a 60-day notice to vacate May 4. The owner of the home wanted to use it for his purposes, according to Realty World, the property management company.

Search warrant served at home of former Humane Society director

Detectives and officers from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department served a search warrant at the home of Niki Congero Thursday morning, searching for evidence in their embezzlement investigation of the former Lake Tahoe Humane Society executive director.

South Lake Tahoe City Council appoints citizens to commission seats

It looks like the SLT Parks & Recreation Commission is about to get bigger as the City has found that its too big of a job for just five people with the number of sub-committees and other tasks needed as the creation of a new recreation city is on the horizon.

During Tuesday's South Lake Tahoe City Council meeting they appointed five commissioners, then took the first steps to expand the commission by two members. In a resolution at the next Council meeting, that will be a done deal, if approved.

24 community members vying for SLT commission seats

After a record number of candidates sought election to the South Lake Tahoe City Council in November, another large group of citizens are seeking assignments to four City commissions.

During their next meeting on Tuesday, January 16, the City Council will fill the open seats on those commissions: Planning, Parks & Recreation, Airport Land Use and Building/ADA Board of Appeals.

Kenneth Charles Traum 1971 - 2016

Kenneth Charles Traum passed away suddenly at his home in Martinez, Ca., on Nov. 5, 2016.

He was 45.

Kenny was born on July 17, 1971, at Alta Bates Hospital in Berkeley, Ca. He moved to South Lake Tahoe, Ca., with his mother, Judy, and brother, Mike, when both boys were toddlers. He attended pre-school at Under the Magic Pine Tree, followed by Meyers and Al Tahoe elementary schools, South Tahoe Middle School, and graduated from South Tahoe High School in 1989.

City Council appoints 16 citizens to commissions; three openings still exist

During the City Council meeting on January 20, the new council voted to fill spots on four City Commissions.

There was just one spot filled of the required two for the Airport Land Use Commission. Michael Siracuse was appointed to the two year term. Ted Long had applied for the other position but the Council said he didn't meet the experience requirements. The City will look for a qualified candidate to fill the open spot.

In their meeting of 2015, the South Lake Tahoe City Council will make appointments to four commissions.

Residents seeking one of the two available spots on the Airport Land Use Commission are Ted Long and Michael Siracuse. There are seven openings on the Building/ADA Board of Appeals, and six people seeking the spots: David Huber, Keith Cloutier, William "Chip" Henderson, Robert King, Dale Rise and Randy Vogelgesang.

The South Lake Tahoe City Council made its 2013 appointments to the Airport Land Use, Building/ADA Board of Appeals and Planning Commissions at Tuesday's meeting. Mayor Tom Davis, Mayor Pro Tem Hal Cole and Councilmember JoAnn Conner all voted with Councilmember Angela Swanson absent from today’s meeting.
