Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas

As we prepare to bid the year of 2020 a fond farewell, we are celebrating Christmas as best we can during these unprecedented and uncertain times.

I could start with all the normal holiday greetings like Merry Christmas, May your holidays sparkle with joy and laughter, or I hope the magic of Christmas fills every corner of your heart and home with joy — now and always, but this year seems like so much more is needed.

Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah

Dear Readers:

Thank you very much for being a reader of South Tahoe Now. This has been a whirlwind of a year, and ending with another whirlwind of activity as we all prepare to celebrate the holidays with our family, friends, and loved ones. It seems like just yesterday that we finished our Thanksgiving turkeys and started thinking about shopping for gifts.

Thran's Flowers and Lake Valley Fire give 10 families a Christmas tree

Ten local families will have a merrier Christmas after Lake Valley Fire Protection District (LVFPD), with the help of Katie Long of Thran's Flowers, made sure they had a decorated tree set up in their homes.

Captain Chuck Malone and Firefighter/Paramedic Dusty LaChapelle delivered the trees and, according to LVFPD, were delighted to help deliver and were overjoyed to see the smiles on the faces of the families that received the trees.

Thran's Flowers donated the trees, stands, lights and ornaments.

South Lake Tahoe K9 Association gives back to animals in need

Not wanting to leave animals out of the holiday excitement, the South Lake Tahoe Police Canine Association (SLTPCA) joined forces with Pet Station on Christmas Eve to give presents to some furry friends at the animal shelter.

It may have been snowing outside but it was warm inside the El Dorado County Animal Services office as gifts were brought in by the SLTPCA who had received a wish list from the agency.

Pet Station offered to help the officers in fulfilling the wish list.

Christmas decor at South Lake Tahoe's Children's Memorial Tree

The children of South Lake Tahoe who have lost their lives are memorialized in a tree located at the corner of Highway 50 and Wildwood Avenue.

A tragedy occurred on February 2, 1991 when three South Tahoe High students died when the car they were riding in struck a tree on Pioneer Trail. They tree they struck became the Children's Memorial Tree.

A newly designed memorial was unveiled a year ago and it now holds over 230 names.

South Lake Tahoe Children's Memorial Tree Decorated for the Season

It appears that Santa's elves were busy at the South Lake Tahoe Children's Memorial this week. The memorial, located on the corner of Highway 50 and Wildwood Avenue, got a holiday makeover. Not only was the area decorated for the Christmas but there was a stocking placed at the site in memory for each local child who is memorialized there.

Organizers don't want any child to ever be forgotten nor do they want them to be without their own Christmas stocking for a little something from Santa.

A Holiday Letter from El Dorado County Sheriff D’Agostini

The holiday season is upon us. This is a time of year to reflect on the year that was and the year that soon will be. From a personal standpoint, it’s a time to reflect on the priorities in life; faith, family, friendship, health and happiness.

From a professional standpoint, it’s a time to take a few steps back and assess our progress, gauge our growth and prepare ourselves for the year to come.
