Volunteers Remove 2,260 Pounds of Trash From Six Lake Tahoe Beaches

Several groups have been participating in the Adopt a Beach cleanup program that is getting volunteers out to clean up the mess, both trash and fireworks debris.
The League to Save Lake Tahoe had over 120 volunteers participate in their annual Keep Tahoe Red, White & Blue Beach Cleanup. They cleaned at Commons Beach in Tahoe City, Nevada Beach and Zephyr Shoals on the East Shore, and Kiva, Regan and El Dorado beaches on the South Shore for a total of about 3 miles of shoreline.
Tahoe Fund Seeks Donors for Incline Village to Sand Harbor Bike Path
Submitted by paula on Wed, 07/02/2014 - 9:55pmThe dream of a dedicated bike path along the eastern shore of Lake Tahoe moved one step closer to reality with a vote by the Tahoe Fund board of directors to launch a new campaign to raise $750,000 for the trail. The private money raised by the Tahoe Fund would help the Tahoe Transportation District secure $12.5 million in public funding for the new bike path from Incline Village south to Sand Harbor on the lake’s northeast corner.

Forest Service Wants Public Input on Incline Dam Project

The Forest Service purchased the 777-acre Incline Lake parcel, located off State Route 431 in Washoe County, Nev., on July 29, 2008, for its recreational, scenic and natural resource values. During the acquisition process, a site investigation and assessment determined that the Incline Lake dam and spillway do not meet federal, state or local standards for a high-hazard dam (designated as such due to downstream development).

Tahoe Regional Plan Being Challenged in Court by Sierra Club Once Again

Since that time, the Sierra Club and "Friends of the West Shore" have sued (in February 2013) to oppose the plan, lost their motion (April 2014) and now, as of May 7, have filed an appeal to the court's decision to uphold the 2012 Lake Tahoe Regional Plan.

Opinion: Lawsuits Are Not The Answer To Fireworks Debris

If we ever doubted the connection, those doubts should have been erased through the impacts of the Great Recession on our local economy. We need revenue from tourism to sustain our economy, which in turn helps to fund environmental projects that protect the natural beauty, which draws millions of visitors every year. We cannot have a thriving economy without protecting the environment and we cannot have a beautiful natural environment without money to protect and properly sustain it.
Parents Asked to Pick Up Their Lake Tahoe Environmental Magnet School Students
Submitted by paula on Thu, 03/20/2014 - 11:20amAt 10:15 a.m. Thursday, Liberty Energy informed the Lake Tahoe Unified School District that the Magnet School was going to have their power shut off for the remainder of the school day to make emergency repairs.
There is enough natural light at the school to give classrooms light to function but they are asking parents to pick up their students as soon as possible.
A cold lunch will be provided for students who can't be picked up and school buses will run on their normal schedule at the end of the day.
Phone service is limited.
Hugelkultur Planned for South Lake Tahoe Community Garden

This word may not be in everyone's vocabulary (yet) but residents in South Lake Tahoe will soon be seeing this demonstrated if the community garden at Bijou Park is approved by the City Council.

The snow is expected to continue falling overnight and into Friday, setting resort guests up for a weekend of snow-filled fun.
Suspicious Fire in South Lake Tahoe Being Investigated

South Lake Tahoe Police officers and fire fighters responded to a residential fire in the 1100 block of Long Valley Avenue at 6:10 pm. They found the home fully engulfed in flames with fire starting to spread to nearby trees, though they were able to contain the fire to the area of the burning home. It appears the house is likely to be a total loss.
The house has received the attention of the police and fire department prior to Wednesday night's fire.

Eric Matus of the Nevada Radiation Control Program will lead a public lecture titled “Radon: What you don’t know could hurt you” beginning at 6 p.m. at the Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences.

Most recently, Satre was a government affairs and legislative analyst for the law firm of Snell & Wilmer, LLP. She has also worked on Capitol Hill in Washington DC for Senator Harry Reid and held legal internships at the Federal Communications Commission and U.S. Department of Education.

Year's First National Water Forecast Predicts Limited Supply in Lake Tahoe and Rest of West

The NWCC also predicts normal water supply east of the Continental Divide and will continue to monitor, forecast and update water supplies for the next six months.
Lake Tahoe Tourism Officials Denounce Fireworks Lawsuit

In November, Joseph and Joan Truxler, of Zephyr Cove, Nev., filed a federal lawsuit against the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority and Pyro Spectaculars North alleging the twice-annual fireworks shows violated the Clean Water Act.

Ski With a Ranger Program Returns to South Lake Tahoe

Everyone in invited to join them at Heavenly Mountain Resort on Mondays and Fridays at 10 am and 1 pm. The Ski With a Ranger tours begin at the top of the gondola ad last about one hour.
Participants must be intermediate level skiers/boarders or above and provide their own lift ticket. No reservations are required; attendance is on a first-come first-served basis.

Submitted by paula on Fri, 12/20/2013 - 6:54pmHeavenly Mountain Resort will open the California side of the resort on Saturday, December 21, expanding open terrain to include Ridge Run, Patsy’s, Maggie’s, Skyline Trail, Sky Chute, and the beginner areas of the Enchanted Forest and DMZ near the California Main Lodge. With the opening of Skyline Trail and California Trail, guests will be able to ski and ride to and from the California side to the Nevada side and access top-to-bottom skiing and riding on the Nevada side. With the California opening, the resort will operate 19 lifts, accessing 17 trails and 13.5 miles of skiable terrain.
