By Elaine Goodman / Tahoe Business Monitor

The store, which will be open through December and possibly longer, is in part a test to see if there is enough community support for a permanent, full-service bookstore at the South Shore.

Angora fire restoration draws complaints

A prescribed forest burn in the Angora fire area caused quite a stir earlier this month after wind gusts of up to 50 mph carried some of the burn slash piles and brush further than what was comfortable for nearby homeowners.
The U.S. Forest Service, however, says that at no point did the prescribed fire, which consisted mostly of slash piles and dead trees, get out of hand and the agency remains both cautious about its undertaking and empathetic to nearby neighbors who rebuilt their homes following the June 2007 Angora fire.

Nevada tourism director to promote state through Facebook, Twitter

With a shrinking budget that not only is dwarfed by other state departments but by state tourism boards across the West, Vecchio has her eyes on the low-cost 21st century version of over-the-fence chitchat with friends and neighbors — social networks such as Twitter and Facebook.
