Grammy award winner Chris Stapleton headed to Lake Tahoe

On Sunday he won three Grammy's, and on Monday, Chris Stapleton announced the stops on his 2018 All-American Road Show and Lake Tahoe is on that list.

Stapleton, along with Brent Cobb and Marty Stuart, will be at the Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena on July 26, 2018. Tickets will go on sale Feb. 9.

Stapleton won the Grammies on January 28 for Best Country Album of the Year with his "From a Room, Vol. 1," "Broken Halos" as Best Country Song, and Best Country Solo Performance for "Either Way." He is also the Country Music Association Male Vocalist of the Year three years running.

Edgewood promotes their hotel director to general manager

Edgewood Companies has announced that Corinna Osborne will be Edgewood Tahoe’s new general manager.

The Massachusetts native has more than 15 years of experience in the local hospitality industry. Prior to joining Edgewood Tahoe, Osborne has worked at MontBleu, served as general manager of Horizon Resort and was part of the rebranding and opening for the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe where she was the director of non-gaming operations.

Phish returns to Lake Tahoe for two nights during outdoor concert series

Phish’s 2018 Summer Tour begins with two performances at the Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena at Harveys on July 17 and 18, and culminates with the band’s traditional summer ending shows in September at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado.

Keith Urban headed to Lake Tahoe for outdoor summer concert series

Country music superstar Keith Urban will be stopping by the South Shore this summer during the 2018 Lake Tahoe Summer Concert Series at Harveys Outdoor Arena.

He and Kelsea Ballerini, an American country pop singer and songwriter, will stop by during Urban's "GRAFFITI U" tour with two shows, July 21 and 22. Tickets for the 7:00 p.m. show will be from $59.50 to $139.50.

Urban announced Wednesday the new tour "GRAFFITI U" dates that will coincide with his new album of the same name.

92 local charities benefit from Vail Resort's Epic Promise grants

Ninety-two different nonprofits recently received cash or product donations from Vail Resorts through their EpicPromise grant program. The beneficiaries all serve communities around Northstar, Kirkwood Mountain and Heavenly Mountain resorts.

Dave Matthews Band returning to Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena this summer

The Dave Matthews Band is headed to Lake Tahoe as part of their newly announced Summer 2018 tour. They'll stop at the Outdoor Arena at Harvey's on Friday, September 7.

Tickets will go on sale February 2.

Dave Matthews Band, known also as DMB, also announced Tuesday that they are releasing their long awaited ninth studio album. They were last on the South Shore September 9, 2015, a night with two full sets of music by the popular band.

Public input sought on new Tahoe South Events Center

Could there soon be a publicly-owned events center on the corner of Highway 50 and Lake Parkway on the MontBleu parking lot in Stateline, Nevada?

The plan to build the 88,420 square foot Tahoe South Events Center is now in the scoping stage where the public can weigh in and provide comments on the Tahoe Douglas Visitor's Authority (TDVA) proposal to construct the assembly, event and entertainment venue.

New Executive Chef for Edgewood Tahoe's three lakefront restaurants

There is a new chef at the helm of Edgewood Tahoe's three restaurants after the retirement of Frank Stagnaro, the resort’s executive chef for over 25 years.

Executive Chef Charles Wilson was amazed at the view from the resort that sits on the shore of Lake Tahoe.

“One of the reasons I’m here is this property,” Wilson said. “Walking into the Great Room and looking out the windows was the moment. The culinary team’s job is to match the ambiance of the resort, and this setting is truly spectacular.”

The predominately under-30 crowd come from colleges and communities hundreds and even thousands of miles away to enjoy a specially gathered group of top artists in the electronic dance music (EDM) field.

Along with the fun though comes issues common at most music festivals: noise, trash, underage drinking and drugs.

Hundreds working behind the scene to keep all safe at SnowGlobe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CALIF. - Leading up to SnowGlobe, days have been filled with meetings and emergency drills, staffing instructions and planning, all to create a safe atmosphere for the thousands of people in South Lake Tahoe for the three-day music festival.

As the show got underway Friday, December 26, there was a heavy presence of law enforcement and safety personnel, though many of them could not be detected as they moved about the venue in plain clothes. A drone was also in the air, surveying the crowd below.

Volunteers needed for USFS outdoor programs at Heavenly

Are you a college student looking for an internship this winter? Are you a retired school teacher who misses your students or providing education? Or maybe you simply love the outdoors and want to be involved in your community?

The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit is looking for volunteers to assist with their Winter Trek and Ski with a Ranger conservation education programs at Heavenly Mountain Resort from January through March 2018.

USFS taking reservations for 5th grade snowshoe program

The 2018 Winter Trek conservation program for fifth-grade students will run from January 9 to March 29, and sign-ups with U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) for the popular program begin December 18.

Fifth-grade teachers may reserve a spot by calling the Forest Supervisor’s office at 530-543-2789, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Field trips are generally three hours long and are offered on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, weather permitting.

Partnership emphasizes nature is the best medicine

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - To show nature is the best medicine, Barton Health and the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) have partnered together to give the community Wellness Outings.

Patients will have access to the forest through a guided outing with a USFS ranger and physician or nurse.

In addition to Wellness Outings, the partnership will provide wellness and injury prevention training for USFS rangers and firefighters, as well as accessibility of public lands to promote outdoor recreation.

New rules for vacation rentals in SLT start December 21

After months of debate and community discussions, South Lake Tahoe will have a new Vacation Home Rental Ordinance (VHR) starting December 21, 2017, but don't expect the discussions to be over.

The City Council will continue to evaluate the ordinance and look at it during a meeting a least quarterly as they look at what is working and what still needs adjustment.

Backcountry skiers trigger avalanche near Mt. Rose

Three skiers in the Hourglass Bowl area on Tamarack Peak near Mt. Rose triggered a 600 foot long avalanche around 10:45 a.m. Thursday. Nobody was seriously injured though two of the party were slammed into trees and rocks according to the Sierra Avalanche Center.

Heavy new snow was falling rapidly at the time. The avalanche was about three feet deep and 200 feet wide.

A group of 4 or 5 were skiing in the area, with three of them involved in the slide. Two of the skiers lost their skis and another had a possible broken ankle.

Active military families treated to weekend in Lake Tahoe

The families of two active duty soldiers were treated to an outdoor adventure weekend in Lake Tahoe thanks to PatriotList.org of Carson City and Move Mountains of Incline Village.

The mission of the program was to weave family activities that blend adventure and communication workshops into the retreat weekend. The families were nurtured and challenged physically, emotionally and mentally while they worked together and thrived through fun and engaging challenges on the SEA, AIR, and LAND.

Good news for South Lake Tahoe as the Amgen Tour of California has announced their 2018 race schedule. A favored site for the women’s race, South Lake Tahoe will once again host the men for the Stage 6 finish and welcome back the women for the fourth year in a row on May 18. 2018.

Can a mega fire happen in Lake Tahoe?

Before that question can be answered, we need to understand what a mega fire is. To be a mega fire it needs to meet these five points:

1. Starts near or in a high fire danger area during approaching or actual red flag conditions,
2. Escapes the initial attack,
3. Develops into a campaign fire covering a large area,
4. Requires thousand of firefighters and extensive additional resources to bring final containment,
5. Often cause huge property and other cultural losses in addition to vegetation destroyed.

Air quality in El Dorado County affected by Northern California fires

Air quality in El Dorado County is currently being impacted by smoke from wildfires burning in the State. County health officials are reminding residents to take precautions should wildfire smoke impact the areas in which they live, work and recreate. According to Air Pollution Control Officer Dave Johnston, wildfires can produce smoke that causes health problems, particularly for children, older people and those with heart disease or respiratory issues.

Johnston advises residents to limit outdoor activity if they see or smell smoke.

$85M in sales at Tahoe Beach Club during first phase

During their first summer of sales, 39 of the 46 available contracts to buy a luxury condominium home at the Tahoe Beach Club sold for a total of $85 million.

This development at the end of Kahle Drive in Stateline, Nevada is the first full ownership lakefront in 30 years at Lake Tahoe. They are being built on land that was once a trailer park.

Homebuyers have been mostly from the Bay Area, Southern California, Texas and New York areas.

The Tahoe Women's Community Fund (TWCF) would like to thank all the community members who came out last Wednesday for the Modern Family Premiere in support of local families! SnowGlobe 2017 lineup released

For 20 years, every August we’ve paused to reflect on our collective commitment to Lake Tahoe’s restoration at the Lake Tahoe Summit. SnowGlobe wants 10 year extension, say they contribute $14M to local economy annually

SnowGlobe, the annual outdoor music festival in South Lake Tahoe, has come to town over the New Year's Eve holiday since 2011, and now they want to add ten years to their contract that expires this year.

During Tuesday, August 15th's South Lake Tahoe City Council meeting, promoters will make a presentation to the City outlining their plans, showing how they think they can become the largest funding source of South Lake Tahoe projects and non-profits.

David Antonucci to speak on Mark Twain at Dangberg Historic Park

Author David C. Antonucci will speak on his book Fairest Picture: Mark Twain at Lake Tahoe at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Saturday, August 12, at 10:00 am.

In 1861, Samuel Clemens, the man who would become Mark Twain, hiked to Lake Tahoe to stake a claim for a timber ranch. He spent many blissful days on the Lake but carelessly allowed his campfire to escape, creating a spectacular wildfire. He later wrote about his experiences in his 1872 memoir, Roughing It.

Chautauqua of Major Ormsby and Lucky Bill at Dangberg Historic Park

In a one man show, Chris Bayer will portray both Major William Ormsby and Lucky Bill Thorington in “The Major and the Gambler” at Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Wednesday, August 9, at 6:30 pm.

Major William Mathew Ormsby was born in 1814 in Mercer County, Pennsylvania. Ormsby was a teamster, failed horse dealer, citizen at large, visionary and one of the most important figures in the founding of Nevada and its capitol, Carson City. He was killed in 1860 during the Pyramid Lake Paiute uprising.

Author to speak on Nevada State Children's Home at Dangberg Historic Park

Historian Patty Cafferata will present “By Gas, Rope, Bullet or Poison: A History of Capital Punishment in Nevada” on Saturday, July 29, at 10:00 am at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park.

Distinguished Nevada lawyer and former district attorney, Patty Cafferata, will share the fascinating history of the death penalty as practiced within Nevada. Cafferata will describe the methods of execution the state has used since its territorial days in 1860 through the present, including death by hanging, firing squad, lethal injection and the gas chamber.
