Earlier this week, the U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) resumed a project to eradicate, control, and contain known infestations of invasive plants in the Lake Tahoe Basin using chemical treatment. The work will continue at approximately 70 infestation sites through September, 2016.

The US Bank on Kingsbury Grade in Stateline was robbed on Wednesday, June 29 at approximately 3:19 p.m. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) is reporting a man entered the bank and passed a note to a teller.

The suspect is described a Caucasian male, approximately in his mid 20’s, 6 ft tall with blonde hair, wearing a black fleece type jacket and white shorts. He reportedly had a handgun.

The number of dead trees in the Sierra Nevada are now at historic levels and have fueled the risk of catastrohpic wildfires according to the U.S. Forest Service.

They announced Wednesday that they have identified an additional 26 million dead trees in California since October 2015, bringing the total to at least 66 million dead trees in the state. The most recent additions are located in six counties across 760,000 acres in the Southern Nevada region.

In the early morning hours of June 10, 1991, 11-year-old Jaycee Lee Dugard was walking to the school bus stop in South Lake Tahoe when Philip and Nancy Garrido abducted her and imprisoned her for 18 years in the back yard of their Antioch California home. While change is always tough Ribaudo said, South Lake Tahoe needs to be prepared as the tourist shifts from making a transaction when coming to Tahoe to wanting an experience.

The community is warmly invited to Lake Tahoe Community College on Thursday, April 14 to enjoy two new art exhibits celebrating the talents of LTCC’s faculty, staff, and students. Free artist receptions will be held simultaneously from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., offering a chance to meet the artists whose work will be on display and enjoy light refreshments.

"From the Lens of Eleanor Preger," is an exhibition at Sierra Nevada College that includes images from Burning Man 2011-15, and the photographer will talk about her art during the closing reception for the show on April 5. Crimson Rose, Burning Man co-founder, and Maria Partridge, Artist Advocate for the Burning Man Foundation, are both expected to make comments during the evening.

Eleanor Preger's talk will take place in the Ron and Maureen Ashley Community Gallery at the Holman Arts & Media Center on campus from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is concerned about a growing trend with the use of social media by youth, and has shared a warning from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Human Trafficking Bureau on dangers of “sexting” and the potential of pedophiles coercing children into unsafe acts.

The American slopestyle snowboarders reigned supreme at the 35th edition of the Burton US Open on Friday. Kyle Mack (West Bloomfield, MI) scored his first major slopestyle win and fellow Michigander Eric Beauchemin (Grand Blanc, MI) finished right behind him in second. While vacation rental scams are nothing new in South Lake Tahoe, law enforcement has seen an increase in their numbers.

It's been almost two-and-a-half years since South Lake Tahoe native Mitch Underhill died unexpectedly at the age of 34. The firefighter/paramedic with Lake Valley Fire Protection District was passionate not only about his family and career, but for the mountains and community he left behind.

In his memory, the Mitch Underhill Mountain Fund has been created at Lake Tahoe Community College.

"He was so loved in the community," said his widow Sarah. "He was an inspiration."

UPDATE 2:00 p.m. - Three young adults were taken into custody Monday morning in connection with the fatal shooting of a young man over a marijuana deal near a park in north Carson City, Sheriff Ken Furlong said.

The three — two men and a woman — were arrested without incident by Carson City SWAT at an apartment complex on Fifth Street near Harbin Street. The three came out following demands by SWAT to surrender after investigators learned they had been hiding inside a residence.

A new website puts comprehensive information about the Lake Tahoe Environmental Improvement Program at everyone’s fingertips, allowing people to easily learn more about “Lake-Saving Projects” completed in their own neighborhoods and all around Lake Tahoe.

Another key part of the continuing revitalization of South Lake Tahoe was unveiled to the local community Tuesday evening during an open house presented by the Tahoe Transportation District (TTD). What was once known as the "Loop Road" project has evolved into what is being called the "Community Revitalization Plan."

Pierro Jacare Innocenti, 40, of Paris, was killed when gunmen stormed the sold-out Eagles of Death Metal show that Innocenti was attending at the Bataclan Concert Hall. Innocenti posted a photo on his Facebook page of the concert billboard with the comment “Rock!” at 8:45 p.m., less than an hour before three gunmen gunned down 89 people at the venue.

On Friday evening, gunmen and suicide bombers with the Islamic State, or ISIS, almost simultaneously targeted the concert hall, a major stadium, restaurants and bars in Paris, leaving at least 129 people dead and hundreds wounded.
