California wildlife makes headlines in 2011

Pesky bears, a roaming gray wolf, significant poaching arrests, tsunami relief work and dramatic wildlife rescues were among the stories that captured the public’s attention.
DFG also welcomed new Director Charlton H. Bonham, who was appointed by Governor Jerry Brown in August.

The 2012 Lake Tahoe Storm Drain Outfall Calendar has been prepared by anonymous members of the Tahoe Pipe Club. The calendar presents photographs of example storm drain pipes which are polluting Lake Tahoe. In spite of decades of restoration in the name of lake clarity these pipes and hundreds of other pipes like them are allowed to pollute Lake Tahoe with toxic storm water. Tahoe Pipe Club wants the urban storm water infiltrated into the ground before it reaches these pipes.
Homewood project at Lake Tahoe approved by TRPA; League responds

To a packed house of observers, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency Governing Board voted to approve Phase 1 of the Homewood Mountain Resort Ski Area Master Plan at their monthly meeting on Wednesday, December 14.
Heavenly Mountain Resort gets favorable environmental certification
Submitted by Sam Bauman on Sat, 11/12/2011 - 1:02pmHeavenly Mountain Resort has announced that its new multi-million-dollar Tamarack Lodge received Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. Tamarack Lodge is the first LEED-certified, on-mountain building at Lake Tahoe. It will serve as the blueprint for the construction of Northstar California's new on-mountain lodge and as a guide for future Vail Resorts development.
Public lands money for parks and trails dries up
Submitted by Editor on Mon, 10/03/2011 - 8:37amThrough the sale of $3 billion in public land in Clark County, cities and counties throughout Nevada have built hundreds of parks and trails, pollution has been kept out of Lake Tahoe and forest fires have been prevented. The Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act of 1998 has been a boon for the entire state. But the good times are nearly over. Go here for more from the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Tahoe agency encourages property owners to control stormwater

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency is continuing efforts to encourage public-private partnerships that improve the clarity of Lake Tahoe by bring properties along Highway 50 into compliance with Best Management Practice (BMP) erosion control requirements.
