Steve Teshara, CEO of the Tahoe Chamber and chairperson of the Tahoe Transportation District (TTD) Board of Directors, now has another leadership duty for the upcoming year.

Teshara will serve as the president of the California Association of Councils of Governments (CALCOG), a group whose membership includes 47 regional governments involved in the planning, funding, and development of the state’s transportation infrastructure.

He has been representing TTD on the CALCOG Board.

There are just two days left for the public to comment on a proposed restoration project of the Upper Truckee River that runs adjacent to the Lake Tahoe Golf Course and Washoe Meadows State Park.

It's time again for people to make nominations for the Tahoe Chamber's 11th annual Blue Ribbon Awards.

This awards program is the community’s opportunity to recognize South Shore businesses, organizations and individuals for achievements, community contributions, and milestones.

The awards ceremony will be held on November 8, 2018 at MontBleu Resort Casino, and nominations will be accepted until October 5.

TOCCATA-Tahoe Symphony Orchestra’s 13th SummerFest continues with ROMANTIX, presented in four different venues in the Reno-Tahoe-Carson area July 27 – Aug. 5, 2018 (in SLT Friday, Aug. 3). Reno Philharmonic Principal Cellist Peter Lenz will blow you away with his performance of the Dvorak “Cello Concerto in B Minor.” The orchestra also digs into Beethoven’s “Symphony #1,” and offers up the delightful froth of Rossini’s “Overture to the Barber of Seville.”

Many have wondered about the structure being built near the Upper Truckee Bridge at US50 and River Drive in South Lake Tahoe. It's tall framing from two weeks ago has become a system of steel, cement, sand and is an in-line facility for stormwater collection and treatment.

This system, called a Delaware sand filter, stands alone and requires no pond or pretreatment. There was a like filter system installed at US50 and Rufus Allen Boulevard a couple of years ago. It has been found to be effective in removing common pollutants from stormwater drain off.

Hosting their first Adopt A Day of Nourishment sponsorship, Hard Rock Hotel & Casino sponsored B&B’s Monday Meal on June 25th. It was really great having the newest hotel and casino on Tahoe’s south shore hosting a community dinner for the needy in the community. Hard Rock’s partnering with B&B demonstrates their commitment to being involved with the community and being a part of the solution to improving the quality of life for our community’s at risk population.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — Lake Tahoe Community College Accounting/Business instructor Dr. Jon Kingsbury, World Languages instructor Catalina Goralski, and Biological Sciences instructor Dr. Sue Kloss are all being honored for their outstanding work in the classroom and their dedication to LTCC’s students. Dr. Kingsbury was chosen by his fellow LTCC faculty members as the Distinguished Faculty Award winner for 2018. Goralski was also selected by her fellow faculty members as their choice for Distinguished Adjunct Instructor of the Year. Dr.

Philanthropist Lisa Maloff, better known as the “Angel of Tahoe,” is once again making a contribution that will enrich opportunities for students in South Lake Tahoe. Maloff donated $25,000 to South Tahoe High School’s Performing Arts Booster Association, PABA, for the purchase of new musical instruments for Lake Tahoe Unified School District.

Maloff’s generous donation will be distributed evenly between South Tahoe High School, South Tahoe Middle School, and the four elementary school music programs.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Lake Tahoe Golf Course has retained its designation as a "Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary" through the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses, an Audubon International program.

Bobby Jaeger, Golf Course Superintendent, led the effort to maintain sanctuary status on this course. Lake Tahoe Golf Course was designated as a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary in 2003 and is one of 904 courses in the world to currently be designated as such.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – As part of ongoing efforts to control aquatic invasive plants, the Tahoe Keys Property Owners Association, working with the League to Save Lake Tahoe, is testing out new technology never used before in Lake Tahoe.

Washoe County officially opened its doors Friday, May 18, 2018, to the new Incline Village Community Center.

From board meetings to board games and several fun-filled activities in-between, the new Washoe County Incline Village Community Center, located at 855 Alder Ave., will be a place for seniors to socialize, be productive and share ideas. Targeted to seniors in need, the social spaces in the center will host senior and community activities in Incline Village, removing isolation and service access barriers that directly affect quality of life for those populations.

There are four people running for El Dorado County Supervisor for the 5th District on June 5: Incumbent Sue Novasel and challengers Kenny Curtzwiler, Norma Santiago and Jeffrey Spencer. The 5th District covers Pollock Pines to South Lake Tahoe and Tahoma.

The Amgen Tour of California is just a week away, and since both the women's and men's races come through South Lake Tahoe this year, many cyclists can be seen training on area roads.

On Wednesday, four members of the United Heath Care (UNC) cycling team joined local comedian and radio personality Howie Nave on a bike ride to Round Hill Pines.

Howie participates in the annual America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride around Lake Tahoe, so he can ride, and the ladies of Amgen today treated him kindly on the roads, not leaving him in the dust as he joked about.

The El Dorado County Vacation Home Rental Ordinance was first created in 1997 and updated in 2004. At this time there are 900 permitted vacation home rentals (VHRs) in the County, 800 of which are in the Lake Tahoe Basin.

What started out with a “Good Neighbor Policy” has morphed into neighbors versus neighbors in El Dorado County and an ongoing VHR discussion as Supervisors work to create a new ordinance.

The successful Lake Tahoe roadside boat inspection stations are reopening for the 2018 boating season. The fight against aquatic invasive species (AIS) has gone on for the last ten years, and officials say a large part of their success in keeping the lake clear are the stations located around the lake.

Since 2018, Tahoe Resource Conservation District (RCD) inspectors have performed over 70,000 vessel inspections, decontaminated 32,576 of them using hot water, and have found hundreds of vessels containing foreign species such as mussels, snails and plant material.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif.- Dogs will be banned from the Upper Truckee Marsh area starting Mary 1 due to protection of a critical breeding habitat for special, threatened and endangered species such as the Willow Flycatcher.

This is the California Tahoe Conservancy's annual seasonal dog closure and it will end July 31.

Beginning August 1, dogs will again be permitted access to the Upper Truckee Marsh, if they are on leash. The Conservancy-owned Cove East property, west of the river, remains open for year-round, leashed dog access.

Join over a hundred community members at the League to Save Lake Tahoe's largest one-day water quality monitoring event of the year on Saturday, May 19 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

This free event is family friendly and all ages are invited. No experience necessary. Refreshments will be provided but bring a reusable water bottle.

Make new friends, learn new skills, and have fun volunteering with California State Park's Park Champions this spring at parks up and down California.

There will a volunteer event at Indian Grinding Rock State Historic Park in Amador County on Thursday, April 26 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Help them remove invasive plants and give native plants an opportunity to thrive.

Free tent camping is available for registered volunteers Wednesday night and a guided walk offered Thursday afternoon! Teens ages 14 and up are welcome with a legal guardian.

Many people donate both money and auction items to the Soroptimist of Tahoe Sierra club for their annual Elegant Evening which occurs on Saturday, April 21. What many don't know is where those donations go. There was question recently in the community about donations, so the club wanted to clear up any misunderstandings.

The club recently created a diagram to better explain where each penny goes as they don't have must left over funds after they issue scholarships, grants and other forms of financial support.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Sierra Boulevard Complete Streets project was slated to begin as soon as the 2018 building season began, but some bureaucratic red tape has delayed it. The .6 mile stretch of road will receive Class 1 and Class 2 bike lanes, parallel parking spots, reduced lane size, lighted sidewalks, underground utilities, landscaping, crosswalks and water quality improvements.
