SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - City Council will receive a presentation about broadband and wireless communications infrastructure in South Lake Tahoe during their meeting on Tuesday, April 2. The presentation will be from representatives with AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, and a communications expert.
The meeting, which starts at 9:00 a.m. in Council Chambers at the airport, will have the following items up for discussion and vote:

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - More than a foot of snow fell overnight at ski resorts around Lake Tahoe, with a few inches falling at lake level. With the snow came road closures and chain controls, but sunny skies this morning are allowing road crews to finish plowing and those controls will be dropping during the day.
Sierra-at-Tahoe reports 16 inches of snow in the last 24 hours, with 15 inches at Heavenly, 14 inches at both Mt. Rose and Alpine Meadows and 13 inches at Kirkwood.
As of 10:00 a.m. Thursday, the following roads still have some sort of controls:

Third generation Honda Pilot has been with us about three years, commencing with the model year 2016. It was an all-new design and ride with the only carryover being the 3.5L V-6 and even that was tricked out a bit with direct injection and 30 more ponies and nine more pounds of twist. Transmissions also got better with a standard six-speeder (one extra gear) and in the Touring and Elite trim lines, you’ll get a nine-speeder, which picks achieves about one mpg in the ratings.

The Winter of 2019 just doesn't want to let spring make its entrance and another series of small storms will be in the Lake Tahoe and Sierra all week. Snow levels dropped about 500 feet lower than anticipated in heavier precipitation bands with snow currently falling down to 4000-4500 feet this morning.
1-6" of snow has fallen in the Sierra overnight and chain controls remain in effect as of the time of writing. While lighter snow will continue this morning,

On March 14th, the City of South Lake Tahoe held a public meeting to discuss the already approved plan to re-route Hwy 50 through a bunch of small businesses and a whole neighborhood, around the backside of Harrah’s where half of the existing Loop Road now sits. This plan was concocted by the Tahoe Transportation District (TTD) and the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) with little input from the community and the near absence of participation by our former City Leaders.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - After a multi-year investigation into conditions at their Lake Tahoe gas stations, one local businessman is now banned from owning or operating gas stations with underground tanks in California while another faces sanctions.
Azad Amiri and Sarbjit S. Kang were accused of violating multiple underground storage tank (UST) requirements at five Lake Tahoe area gas stations: 1140 Emerald Bay Road, 913 Emerald Bay Road, and 2304 Lake Tahoe Blvd. in South Lake Tahoe, 3208 Highway 50 in Meyers, and 8070 North Lake Blvd., Kings Beach.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Five developed recreation sites around Lake Tahoe will get improved access for those with disabilities after a vote by the California Tahoe Conservancy (CTC) Board.
The approved the California Tahoe Conservancy Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan (Plan) authorizes staff to take all actions necessary to carry out the barrier removals at five of their sites on the California side of Lake Tahoe:

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A vacant one-half acre lot on Emerald Bay Road at the "Y" in South Lake Tahoe will soon become an “affordable by design” housing project and could be the site of tiny houses. At Thursday's California Tahoe Conservancy meeting they announced their intent to sell one of its developable properties to Dinsmore Sierra who will finance and build the project which is across the street from Alpina Cafe.

State Route 89 recreation plan to address traffic, experiences and parking

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - Giving people a positive experience as they travel along the west shore of Lake Tahoe will require removing congestion from the roadway is one of the goals of the State Route 89 Recreation Corridor Management Plan.
A collaboration of 17 agencies and organizations have been working on the plan which covers the stretch from 15th street in South Lake Tahoe to the Placer County line at Sugar Pine Point State Park. Along the plan area are popular areas to view scenery, hike, bike and visit beaches along a 12 mile stretch of undeveloped shoreline.

Most schools open, chain requirements up around Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - All schools around the lake are open at this time. The only casualty is Douglas High School in Minden which will be closed Wednesday due to lack of sufficient heating in classrooms. All other DCSD schools are open with no delays in transportation.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - In 2016 a group of citizens gathered enough signatures to put a measure before the voters in November of that year to prevent the City of South Lake Tahoe from taking any action on what has been known as the Loop Road project (though the official name is the US 50/South Shore Community Revitalization Project) without first getting approval by the voters.
Today the California Supreme Court put an end to that measure.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - In case you haven't had enough of winter weather yet there is more due for Lake Tahoe over the next seven days. The first couple days of meteorological spring will continue the active storm pattern we`ve seen in February according to the National Weather Service in Reno. Our next storm Saturday into Sunday will bring rain and snow impacts to the region.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Lake Wind Advisory until Friday night at 7:00 p.m. and a Winter Weather Advisory from midnight Friday to 6:00 p.m. Saturday.

Caltrans hopes to get I80 open late Wednesday: Amtrak trains on the move again

LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Passengers on two Amtrak trains heading through the Sierra on Tuesday evening had some excitement on their trips after a plow train was derailed near Soda Springs, fell through a trestle and blocked the tracks.
The east bound train with 155 passengers on board slept in the heated train, then resumed their trip to Chicago at 8:00 a.m. Wednesday after rotary plows cleared he tracks. Their trip puts them in the Windy City 16 hours behind schedule.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Tetrachloroethylene (PCE) was found in drinking water wells in South Lake Tahoe near the "Y" in 1989, and it remains in the groundwater today, forming a containment plume from the intersection of Highway 50 and State Route 89 and heading toward Lake Tahoe through the Tahoe Keys.

Interstate 80 remains closed this morning as Caltrans crews work to clear the road for safe passage. US50 over Echo Summit is open with chain controls.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Traffic is nothing new in South Lake Tahoe and Meyers, but Sunday traffic leaving Lake Tahoe has become worse once tech-savvy drivers learned how to navigate side roads. Residents cannot leave their homes for fear they won't be able to get back for hours, and drivers trying to make it back to Sacramento and the Bay Area get frustrated with standstill hours-long lines.
