South Lake Tahoe Teens Signing Pledges to Not Drink or Drive With Drinkers on Prom Night

The facts are startling, and, for lack of a better work, sobering. Studies show that 11% of all alcohol consumed in the U.S. is done so by youth aged 11 to 20, below the legal drinking age.

Alcohol is the most commonly used and abused drug among youth in the United States, more than tobacco and illicit drugs according to the Center for Disease Control, and is responsible for more than 4,300 annual deaths among underage youth.

The 2011 Youth Risk Behavior Survey found that among high school students, during the past 30 days:

39% drank some amount of alcohol.
22% binge drank.

Live Violence Free and Escobar Training Grounds Deliver Self-Defense Success

April was a jam packed month at Live Violence Free. In honor of Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Prevention Month, we partnered with multiple community agencies, businesses, and volunteers to bring our community prevention education and awareness about the effects of sexual assault and child abuse.

Child Abuse Prevention Month: No Child Deserves to be Hurt or Neglected

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month and in honor of raising awareness, it is time we discuss this silent tragedy present on a daily basis in our community. The simple truth is that no child deserves to be hurt.

Unfortunately, the reason I have a job is due to the overwhelming presence of child abuse, sexual assault, and domestic violence in society. I stand strongly behind my job and the importance of raising awareness of the impact that child abuse has on our community and providing people with the tools to stop the violence.

Live Violence Free to Raise Community-Wide Awareness

April is a big month for Live Violence Free. It is national Child Abuse Prevention, as well as, Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The entire month is dedicated to honoring victims and survivors of both child abuse and sexual assault. With 80 percent of sexual assault victims being under the age of 30 and a report of child abuse made every ten seconds, it is vital we stand up against the dangers of the abuse. As two of our primary focuses at LVF, we are illuminating the truths and celebrating the efforts to combat the violence directly impacting our community.

Live Violence Free Holiday Givings

December 11, 2013 - 4:00pm

With the holidays right around the corner, many of us are beginning to think about warm meals with loved ones and the joys of exchanging gifts. However, many local families with few resources are struggling to rebuild their lives after experiencing violence. They are solely focused on how they will pay rent and provide food and warm clothing for their families. For the thirteenth year in a row, Live Violence Free is organizing an opportunity for community members and businesses to come together to provide happier holidays for local survivors of violence.
