There is an item on Tuesday's El Dorado County Board of Supervisor's agenda that caught many by surprise, especially those supervisors appointed to address the issue. Supervisor Shiva Frentzen is seeking conceptual approval of urgency ordinance to place a moratorium on the issuance of new vacation home rental permits in the unincorporated portions of the County located in the Lake Tahoe Basin.

Could the strong high pressure system that's been over Northern California and Northern Nevada finally show signs of weakening and could snow return to the Sierra?

Temperatures will remain above average after a weekend that saw record high temperatures. Saturday's 61, Sunday's 58 both broke records, and Monday's forecast of a high of 53 is close to the record 54 from 2012.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CALIF. - Leading up to SnowGlobe, days have been filled with meetings and emergency drills, staffing instructions and planning, all to create a safe atmosphere for the thousands of people in South Lake Tahoe for the three-day music festival.

As the show got underway Friday, December 26, there was a heavy presence of law enforcement and safety personnel, though many of them could not be detected as they moved about the venue in plain clothes. A drone was also in the air, surveying the crowd below.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CALIF. - This year's SnowGlobe may seem to be the loudest one yet as there is no snow on the ground to absorb the sound. There was a year without much snow at the venue, but with no snow at the South Lake Tahoe venue we'll have to wait and see just how loud music from the three-day festival will be. SnowGlobe runs from December 29-31.

The spirit of Christmas comes to life as the 17-piece Reno Jazz Orchestra and the Pat Esters Gospel Choir blend Christmas favorites, jazz, and soul - with a few surprises mixed in – for three performances of feel good, ‘get ready for the holidays’ music and song. The Reno Youth Jazz Orchestra will perform as well.

“Last year’s Gospel Christmas Show with the RJO was such a success we decided to bring it back to the Reno and Lake Tahoe region,” said Chuck Reider, Music Director.

The grand hall at MontBleu Casino Resort has been turned into a holiday paradise, a winter wonderland with the main attraction being the specialty Christmas trees.

On Thursday, local celebrities and media strolled by each of the designer trees, selecting those that won top honors of Most Elegant, Best Theme, Most Creative and Best of Show.

The excellent work on each made it almost impossible to come up with a winner, but four were chosen after much deliberation. Each tree will be paired with a special prize package during a live auction at Saturday's Gala.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - To show nature is the best medicine, Barton Health and the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) have partnered together to give the community Wellness Outings.

Patients will have access to the forest through a guided outing with a USFS ranger and physician or nurse.

In addition to Wellness Outings, the partnership will provide wellness and injury prevention training for USFS rangers and firefighters, as well as accessibility of public lands to promote outdoor recreation.

Dr. Robert Rand, whose pain pill prescribing practices led to the death of at least one patient and helped fuel a rampant pill mill run out of the Jones West Ford dealership, was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison on Monday.

In handing down the sentence, Judge Miranda Du said doctors like Rand, who show ignorance and a reckless disregard for life, are fueling addiction and illegal distribution of pain pills.

"Doctors like Dr. Rand...are enablers and contribute to the opioid crisis in this community," Du said.

This feels like a new idea because care challenges the perverse rationale of greed and the foolish habit of partisan divisions we are so used to. We must actively resist the messages of the market that say we need to stay hooked on getting more things to be happy.

Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) released their September figures and they show revenue for casinos on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe was down almost three percent when compared to the same month in 2016.

They showed a gaming "win" of $21,084,873, 2.96 percent drop from the previous year. The state as a whole was up 3.25 percent, bringing in $979,859,876. The biggest gain in the "win" was experienced by the North Shore casinos with their gain of 16.53 percent, or $414,250 more in 2017.

The "win" represents the computed income of casinos before business expenses and taxes.

The Good Ol' Boyz, a trio from Placerville, are headed up the hill for a one-night show at Whiskey Dicks in South Lake Tahoe on Saturday, October 28 starting at 9:00 p.m.

They combine gritty, hard-hitting, West Coast hip-hop with rebel country and rock influences. Good Ol' Boyz have created a style all their own. Crazed fans of the group range from 15 to 60 years old from all walks of life.

RonnyRon the Outlaw, Kali J Wild, and Remington, create music that explores the life of an outlaw living in the California country.

New York performer and choreographer Sebastiani Romagnolo grew up dancing with Marcia Sarosik at her South Lake Tahoe dance studio, and he returned to those roots this week to help teach the next generation of performers.

The 2007 South Tahoe High and 2011 New York University (NYU) graduate took time out his hectic east coast schedule to head west to visit family in South Lake Tahoe, and visits to town always include a stop by Sarosik's studio.

Many may remember his talent as he headlined many South Tahoe High musicals, and now he's entertaining audiences in New York.

Award winning photography by South Tahoe High School (STHS) students is now on display at the Lake Tahoe Airport's art gallery.

Some of the photographers were on hand a reception hosted by the City of South Lake Tahoe and Tahoe Arts Alliance on Monday, the second since the gallery was opened in June of this year. Work of local artists will hang on the walls at the entrance of City Hall at the airport throughout the year and will be rotated quarterly.

The Tahoe Activist Artists are hosting their second fundraising and educational exhibition, Rising From the Fire, on Sunday, November 5 from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the High Vibe Society Artisan Collective in South Lake Tahoe.

They are building on the success of their first event, We the People: Tahoe Artists Visualize a World of Conversation and Connection. This latest event will be a fundraiser to benefit wildfire survivors, Bread & Broth 4 Kids and Live Violence Free.

The Tahoe Youth and Family Service's 2nd annual Night of Magic will be held at The Loft in the Heavenly Village on Wednesday, November 8 at 7:00 p.m.

Enjoy appetizers before watching the talented magician Robert Hall at the Tahoe Youth and Family Services (TYFS) special show. There will also be a cash bar. Enjoy all for just $55. All proceeds go to help fund all of the programs TYFS provides to the community.

October is Library Card Sign-Up Month at the South Lake Tahoe Library. During this month, the Library invites you to demonstrate your love of reading by visiting them. For over 50 years, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Dave Mason has been entertaining crowds, from his days as a founding member of Traffic, to his current days touring the world with his band.

He'll be on the South Shore Sunday night as he stops by Harrah's Tahoe as part of his "Alone Together" tour.

Mason took time this week to talk to South Tahoe Now as he traveled from Oregon to Washington, both stops on his tour before heading to South Lake Tahoe.
