Lake Tahoe, Sierra and El Dorado County roadwork January 19-25

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It is winter but Caltrans is still able to work on highways in the Sierra, weather permitting. This week they have no scheduled work around Lake Tahoe.

LONG-TERM PROJECTS

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County): Work is winter suspension on a $5.2 million project to upgrade metal beam guardrail and construct concrete barriers at 89 locations from the Red Hawk Undercrossing to 1.9 miles west of the junction with State Route 89 in Meyers. Completion is expected in late spring 2020.

He will present a multimedia presentation on his newest book, "The Donner Party: Weathering the Storm" at the South Lake Library on June 18 at 6 p.m.

Wildflower aficionado to discuss unusual Sierra season at Lake Tahoe Community College presentation

Sierra weather is fickle. It can be feast or famine. According to Lisa Berry, wildflower aficionado and Lake Tahoe Community College adjunct instructor, in wildflower terms it can result in a distinct advantage. Berry has been leading wildflower hikes and studying the area’s wildflowers for almost a decade. This year’s dry winter season resulted in something she said she has never seen before.
