City Council Makes MoveTowards Increasing Recreation Area in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Mon, 10/14/2013 - 4:17pmYou may have noticed all of the blue snow plows at their home next to the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Center, Ice Arena and Campground on Rufus Allen Boulevard. During the last city council meeting there was a unanimous vote to move the current Public Works Streets Division yard (that houses the snow plows) to a new home on the corner of D Street and Shop Street. The council voted to spend just under $400,000 on the purchase, thus paving the way to further expand the work on the 56 acre project.

The second annual Fall Festival and Chili Cook Off will return to the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Complex on Saturday, September 14, 2013. The event will begin at 10:00 am and run until 4:00 pm. Admission is free, and door prizes will be given away every fifteen minutes. There will also be a drawing for one hundred dollars cash, given to one attendee.

The City of South Lake Tahoe Recreation Department is proud to partner with the Tahoe Tri Club to host a Kids Triathlon this Sunday, July 21, at the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Complex beginning at 1:30 p.m. Arrive early for registration. The cost of the event is $35.
The Tahoe Kids Triathlon is a triathlon (series) for kids ages 3-13. The triathlon course includes the Recreation Complex Swimming Pool, Parking Lot, and Greenway that surrounds the Campground. A post-race party, barbecue and yearly age-group awards will follow the triathlon.

The Gold Country Broadband Consortium is working to provide choices for affordable Internet service throughout a four-county region, including the California side of the Lake Tahoe Basin.
The Consortium is hosting a meeting on Monday, June 24, to hear residents' and business' concerns about Internet service in the South Lake Tahoe and Meyers areas. The meeting will be from 6:45 to 8 p.m. at the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Complex, 1180 Rufus Allen Blvd. (Aspen Room).

New classes will begin at the Center for Spiritual Development in South Lake Tahoe. Marty and Amrito Cross are back on an every week schedule (our own level class at FSD is now on Wednesdays, so no need to alternate).
Level 1, Level 2 classes and free healing circle start again on Tuesday, May 14. See details below. Level 4 is on-going on Thursdays. Please let us know what you plan to attend. Spirit Coaching is also available to fit your schedule (6-month minimum commitment).
Classes are at Unity at the Lake, 1195 Rufus Allen Bvd., across from the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Center.

Inaugural Lake Tahoe Lifestyle Festival, more than just a jubilee

This new festival was crafted by Barton Health and the City of South Lake Tahoe to bring children, families and individuals together for health education and non-stop excitement.
South Lake Tahoe Awarded $475,000 for Bike Paths
Submitted by Editor on Fri, 09/07/2012 - 3:13pmThe City of South Lake Tahoe has been awarded $475,452 in grant funding from Caltrans through the Bicycle Transportation Account (BTA) among 111 applicants. This grant was written by the City’s grants coordinator, Lori Marino.
The city has identified through annual inspection, several Class 1 bike paths that have exceeded usable life span and are in desperate need of complete reconstruction. The pathways identified, provide key connectivity to various neighborhoods and business districts within the city limits.

Quiet Council Meeting Yields Interim Budget

The South Lake Tahoe City Council met Tuesday to pass an interim budget in an effort to have more time to work out labor negotiation and budget shortfall issues that have the community up in arms. There were no comments offered by council or the public, and the motion passed unanimously. Prior to the meeting there was a closed session for bargaining units to meet, and following was another closed session for council to hear the latest of the negotiations.
