Susan Allison Mancini ~ 3/26/62 - 4/30/19

Allison, also affectionately known as Allidaughter, was born in Bishop, California to Mary Strobel and Robert Dietz when Robert was the manager of the Mammoth Mountain Inn.

She attended Immaculate Heart High School in Hollywood and graduated from South Lake Tahoe High School. She studied at El Camino College and Lake Tahoe Community College.

Allison was an accomplished sailor spending almost every weekend during her early high school years sailing to Catalina Island.

Flags at half-staff to honor Father John Grace; Services set for this week

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Services are set for the beloved Catholic Priest Father John Grace who passed away on Saturday, May 4.

To honor the life of the 98-year-old man who touched many generations in South Lake Tahoe, the South Lake Tahoe City Manager Frank Rush has asked that all City facilities fly their flags at half-staff.

Bread & Broth celebrates 30 years, volunteers and Father Grace just before his death

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It was a celebration of 30 years of serving food to the local community through St. Theresa Church's Bread & Broth program. It was a celebration of the volunteers that make their Monday Night meals, Second Serving meals and Bread & Broth 4 Kids so successful in feeding those in need, not only of food but for camaraderie and community.

On April 22, the HEROs were back hosting an AAD at St. Theresa Grace Hall sponsoring the evening meal. “We all enjoyed serving our local community, especially at Easter time,” said HERO member Janice Blanchard. “It was a fantastic experience to celebrate and serve on Earth Day!”

Ruby Award - An award created in honor of the first Soroptimist Federation President, Ruby Lee Minar. The gemstone ruby is associated with wisdom, importance, vitality, strength, power, and love. This year's recipient is Amy Jackson, someone who is always working for the future of Tahoe's youth in education, sports, and life

Saint Theresa St. Patrick's Day Dinner for the community

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Ready for some traditional Irish food in honor of St. Patrick's Day? On Sunday, March 17 the St. Theresa Parish will be holding their annual Saint Patrick's Dinner from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The dinner is prepared by the Knights of Columbus will include corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, carrots, soda bread and desserts. Irish coffee, beer, wine and sodas will be offered.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids 6 - 12. Tickets are available after all the Masses and at the door.

Presbyterian church fire causes services to be canceled; Second Serving moved

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A fire that damaged the Lake Tahoe Community Presbyterian Church on Wednesday has prompted services to be discontinued as well as moving of the weekly Bread & Broth Second Serving.

The free Friday night meal is moved to St. Theresa Church from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Due to the damage, changes are until further notice.

Monsignor Murrough Wallace facing accusations of sexual abuse

Monsignor Murrough Wallace, who served the South Lake Tahoe community at the St. Theresa Parish from 1993 to 2003, has been accused by a man who said Wallace and another priest sexually abused him in 1985 when he was 17.

The accuser, known as John Doe in court documents, said he was volunteering at Camp Pendola when the alleged abuse took place.

Due to the allegations, Wallace, who is now 82 and retired, had to withdraw from ministry until more facts could be gathered, according to Bishop Soto of the Sacramento Diocese.

Christmas "miracle" helps displaced South Lake Tahoe family

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - When Laura Alvarez De Ruiz, her husband and three children found themselves homeless just a week before Christmas their future was uncertain.

De Ruiz and her family filled one of six apartments at 3546 Spruce Avenue until December 17. That was when they had to vacate their home after the landlord failed to provide safe housing for residents and the City of South Lake Tahoe shut it down.

Stephen Bannar ~ 3/18/63 - 12/13/18

On Thursday, December 13, 2018, Stephen Bannar, loving husband and father of Brandon and Allison, passed away at the age of 55. Stephen was born in Camden, New Jersey on March 18, 1963. He graduated from Rutgers University in 1985 and completed his Medical Degree from Pennsylvania State University in 1990. Stephen practiced Orthopedic Surgery for 25 years. On May 18, 1991, he married Barbara Lee Storck. They raised two children Brandon and Allison.

Every other month 4-5 Kirkwood team members participate in Kirkwood’s Adopt A Day of Nourishment and join the B&B volunteers in serving the members of the Lake Tahoe South Shore community. Often there is a waiting list of Vail folks who want to come help at the B&B dinners.

Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at St. Theresa Catholic Church

Bread & Broth will be observing a special community Thanksgiving dinner on Monday, November 19 from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at Grace Hall at St. Theresa Church in South Lake Tahoe. This is Bread & Broth's 29th year of serving meals to those in need.

The traditional dinner will feature turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberry sauce, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, green salad, rolls, and dessert.

The meal is free and open to all community members as it has been every Monday at Grace Hall since 1989. All are welcome!

Free spaghetti dinner with Saint Joseph Community Land Trust

The Saint Joseph Community Land Trust (SJCLT) will hold its annual pre-Thanksgiving Spaghetti Dinner on Thursday, November 15 at 6:00 p.m. in Grace Hall at St. Theresa Catholic Church. Dinner will be served from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and the hall is open for dining and socializing until 8:00 p.m.

The public is invited as the board and staff of SJCLT give thanks to members and supporters for another successful year serving the community. The Knights of Columbus are the chefs and will be serving the complimentary dinner.

Donations needed for Bread & Broth Thanksgiving Dinner

The 29th annual community Bread & Broth Thanksgiving Dinner will be held on Monday, November 19 inside Grace Hall at St. Theresa Catholic Church from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The meal is open to all members of the community just as it has been every Monday at Grace Hall since 1989.

Last year 300 pounds of turkey, 100 pounds of stuffing, 50 pies, 50 pounds of carrots, 90 pounds of green beans and bags of sweet potatoes were cooked for about 300 members of the community.

An amazing group of Kirkwood crew members volunteered to serve at Kirkwood Mountain Resort’s Adopt A Day of Nourishment on Monday, July 23. “These young people were some of the best sponsor volunteers that we have ever had,” exclaimed Dana Tucker, the AAD Sponsor Crew Coordinator for the evening. “They were so happy to do anything that was asked of them.” Even at the end of the evening they all jumped in and dried the dishes to help clean up after the meal.

The Pay It Forward concept is all about people giving to someone else and making a positive difference.

South Lake Tahoe Warm Room to close on Easter Sunday

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless (TCH) Warm Room in South Lake Tahoe will be closing for the season on Sunday, April 1, 2018. They opened on Christmas Eve inside the Lake Tahoe Community Presbyterian Church as they had trouble securing a place for the winter.

Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe awards $25,003 to local programs benefiting youth

Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe (SISLT) awarded $25,003 towards programs in the local community that benefit youth during a luncheon on Wednesday, March 14.

Open house for South Lake Tahoe Warm Room

An upcoming open house for the South Lake Tahoe Warm Room will not only raise awareness and donations for the seasonal homeless shelter, but it will also be a time to honor the faith community for their support during the first three years of the Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless (TCH).

TCH will host the Open House at on February 15, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Warm Room located at 1195 Rufus Allen Boulevard.

Tahoe Chamber event brings in $2,550 and food for Bread and Broth

The Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce's annual Connect for a Cause on January 18 had a great turnout from the community, bring in both cash and food donations for Bread and Broth.

Over 100 people attended the charity mixer at Riva Grill and they enjoyed appetizers and Riva Grill’s signature cocktail, Wet Woodies during the event.

Bread and Broth serves the community with weekly food giveaways and two hot meals a week, and their Bread and Broth 4 Kids programs gives over 170 South Lake Tahoe children in grades K-8 a backpack of weekend food.

Returning for his second Adopt a Day of Nourishment sponsorship of the year, Jeremy Woodford hosted Bread & Broth’s Monday Meal on January 15th. Jeremy returned with Barbara and Craig Brittain who also volunteered at Jeremy’s January 1st sponsorship. This trio of helpers assisted the B&B volunteers in serving the 76 dinner guests who came to St. Theresa Grace Hall for a hot, nutritious meal. At the Mexican themed dinner, the diners had a choice of beef enchiladas, pork enchiladas, refried beans, festive veggies, green salad, fruit salad and a varies of pies, cookies and cakes for dessert.

The Kiwanis Club of Tahoe Sierra is a service organization that dedicates its members to supporting charities and events which benefit the community, especially children. Every month the Kiwanis Club selects a different community program or organization to support, and for the month of January, the club has sponsored a Bread & Broth “Adopt a Day of Nourishment” for the last eight years.

24th annual Classy Crab Dinner in South Lake Tahoe

The very popular Monsignor Wallace Classy Crab Dinner will be held at St. Theresa Church's Grace Hall in South Lake Tahoe on Saturday, February 3, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. For 24 years church volunteers have been putting on the fundraising event, always a "must do" on many calendars.

Starting at 6:00 p.m., attendees will not only get a crab dinner but also be treated to a silent auction, raffle, and the "famous and lively" dessert auction at 7:45 p.m.

SnowGlobe wrap up: Global attention, donations, the environment and fields

As the tents are taken down, the stage removed and all other components of SnowGlobe disappear for another year, an evaluation of the Community Play Field and other aspects of the seventh annual event in South Lake Tahoe are being made. There may be negatives to the popular event that draws in 20,000 people a day, there are also many positives to be celebrated.

There is more to the three-day festival, SnowGlobe, than music and crowds, a side of the event many aren't aware of.

Normally the Camp Richardson Resort staff is busy seeing to the needs of their many visitors and guests but during the month of December, they shift their focus to helping the members of our community who are struggling with hunger. Through their Adopt A Day of Nourishment sponsorship, Camp Richardson hosted Bread & Broth’s Monday Meal dinner at St. Theresa Grace Hall on December 18 and provided meals for the 100 dinner guests that evening.

Every other month, Heavenly sponsors an “Adopt A Day of Nourishment” and sends a team of volunteers to help crew at their sponsorship dinner On. December 11th, hosting their last AAD of the year, Heavenly’s volunteer sponsor crew was manned by Michelle Beall, Kelly Campbell, Chris Eckert, Katie Ficeto and Frank Papandrea.
