Vote for Lakeview Commons concessionaires on Tuesday

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CALIF. - There may be new vendors at Lakeview Commons this summer. At the 9:00 a.m. South Lake Tahoe City Council meeting on Tuesday, February 20, City staff will present the results of the bidding process for concessionaires at both the food and beverage concession and non-motorized watercraft rental service.

Staff's recommended concessionaires are Sierra-at-Tahoe for the food and beverage services at Lakeview Commons, and Tahoe City Kayak and Paddleboard for the watercraft rentals. The Council will take their consideration into their vote.

Lake Tahoe businesses and employees honored at Blue Ribbon Awards

The winners for the 8th annual Blue Ribbon Awards were announced Thursday night to a sold out dinner and ceremony at Montbleu Resort Casino and Spa. 300 community members attended to celebrate the winners of seven awards that honor exceptional South Shore businesses for their excellence in service, entrepreneurship, tourism and experience.

Tahoe Chamber announces nominees for Blue Ribbon Awards

The Tahoe Chamber announced the nominations Tuesday for the 2015 Blue Ribbon Awards. There were 150 nominations received from the community for their annual awards program that recognizes exceptional South Shore businesses for excellence in service, entrepreneurship and experience among other areas.

South Shore projects win TRPA's Best in Basin Awards

Several South Lake Tahoe projects were awarded this week by the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) as being the "Best in the Basin" for demonstrating exceptional planning, design, and compatibility with Lake Tahoe’s environment and communities.

The projects that were recognized upgraded highways, built new bike trails, improved water quality, restored environmentally-sensitive areas, remodeled blighted commercial buildings, and created defensible space for better wildfire protection.

Soup and salad bar opens in South Lake Tahoe

It took several more months than planned, but Soup Tahoe is now open on the South Shore.

In September, South Tahoe Now announced that SUP Tahoe would be converted into Soup Tahoe during the non-summer months where stand up paddling isn't as popular.

"There were many more regulations than we first figured into our business plan," said owner Eddie Smith of the delay in opening. Smith and his wife, Kimberly, got the doors opened to Soup Tahoe last week.

To make room for the new Bev Mo in South Lake Tahoe, SUP Tahoe and South Shore Bikes needed to find a new home. A long abandoned restaurant on Hwy89 was torn down, a new building put up and now the two local businesses have a new home.

You have most likely noticed all of the action on the corner of Highway 50 and Sierra Blvd over the last few months, with the former Swiss Chalet restaurant undergoing a massive overhaul.

Long time local Debbie Brown has been working endless hours to put in her new business, the Cold Water Brewery. She is bringing to the new venture her talent from years in the South Lake Tahoe food and beverage industry and passion from realizing a long time dream.

Building razed to make way for Bev-Mo in South Lake Tahoe

Another old building was torn down in South Lake Tahoe to make way for a new business. What once housed AAA as well as a laundromat, appliance repairman, bicycle rental and stand up paddle board rentals will soon be a 10,000 square foot Bev-Mo!

The old building was also been home to a bank. League to Save Lake Tahoe and a chiropractor over the years.

Volunteers Remove 2,260 Pounds of Trash From Six Lake Tahoe Beaches

Thousands flocked to Lake Tahoe beaches for the 4th of July and left behind thousands of pounds of trash. Several groups have been participating in the Adopt a Beach cleanup program that is getting volunteers out to clean up the mess, both trash and fireworks debris.

The League to Save Lake Tahoe had over 120 volunteers participate in their annual Keep Tahoe Red, White & Blue Beach Cleanup. They cleaned at Commons Beach in Tahoe City, Nevada Beach and Zephyr Shoals on the East Shore, and Kiva, Regan and El Dorado beaches on the South Shore for a total of about 3 miles of shoreline.
