The date was February 17, 1955. The City of South Lake Tahoe had yet to be incorporated (that happened ten years later). Bill Harrah has just purchased George's Getaway Club for $500,000 and Chris Kuraisa purchased Bijou Ski Area for $1,950 and moved lift operations up the hill and renamed it Heavenly Valley. The number one song was "Sincerely" by the McGuire Sisters.

February 17, 1955 was also the day that the original Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce was incorporated.

Tahoe Chamber has been taking care of business since 1955.

Tahoe Chamber is turning 60 years old! To celebrate Tahoe Chamber's significant role in the South Shore community and this major milestone, we will be throwing a special birthday BAHM! (Business After Hours Mixer) on February 25th at Tep's Villa Roma.

Tahoe Chamber thanks the community for supporting local food banks at the Annual BAHM! for Charity at Riva Grill on Thursday, January 15. Over 100 people attended and together we raised $3,650 for charities Christmas Cheer All Year and Bread and Broth. We couldn’t have been more pleased with the turnout and the amount of donations we received. We’d like to thank Riva Grill for hosting the event and providing the generous spread.

The South Lake Tahoe area of El Dorado County now has a new supervisor, officially. Sue Novasel won the election for Area 5 County Supervisor back in November and has jumped right into the job of representing her constituents which cover the area from Pollock Pines to Tahoma to South Lake Tahoe.

She was officially sworn in on Monday in Placerville, then again at their first Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday, then again in South Lake Tahoe on Thursday.

Many dream of opening a business, but only a few do so with the grace and style of the two local stylists that recently opened L’Atelier Hair Studio. Michelle Langmayer and Shelly McMillin opened this welcoming rustic boutique salon in Round Hill to offer full services ranging from makeup and color to waxing and specialty treatments. To celebrate their months of hard work, Langmayer and McMillin invite all to the grand opening and ribbon cutting of L’Atelier Hair Studio on Friday, January 9. The event begins at 5:00 pm and includes music, drinks, food and raffle prizes.

Despite the power outages and high winds in the South Shore, the Marriott Grand Residence Club was warm and cozy (with power!) on Thursday night, which made it the perfect first stop for TahoeChamber’s annual Winter Wine Walk Business After Hours Mixer (BAHM!). Nearly 100 guests began their tours at the Marriott Grand Residence Club with a taste from Crystal Basin Cellars before embarking on a tour to participating businesses. Each shop welcomed attendees with food, drinks and raffle prizes. It was a fun, blustery night that included great food, wine and friends.

Tahoe Chamber is currently offering discounted rates for booths at the 2015 Business EXPO: Innovation in the Basin.

Member businesses that reserve booth space prior to January 1, 2015 will receive $50 off their booth registration.

The Business EXPO is the South Shore's premier business event with approximately 100 participating local businesses and over 1,500 attendees annually. This year's theme will focus on the innovative businesses and programs unique to the Tahoe Basin.

Tahoe Chamber, in partnership with the City of South Lake Tahoe, is offering the Overcoming Your Business Roadblocks: Planning to Propel Your Business to New Heights workshop for business owners on December 10, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Beauty salon Tahoe Hair Company recently came under new ownership by Corissa Welch, a newcomer to South Lake Tahoe with plentiful experience owning and operating a salon. Welch and TahoeChamber invite all to celebrate Tahoe Hair Company at a ribbon cutting and grand opening at the salon on Wednesday, November 19 at 4:00 pm.

What could incorporation mean for your business? Incorporation could provide your business tax advantages and protect you from personal liability for company debts among other benefits. If you are a business owner interested in learning about incorporating your business, a special workshop on November 19 will inform you about the pros and cons of incorporation.

The 12th Annual Treat Street has moved to a new location, and because of the expected storm, it's now inside!

Bring your children to Trick or Treat in a safe, dry and fun environment at the 12th annual Treat Street Friday, October 31st at the South Lake Tahoe Airport. Local Businesses and non-profits will hand out candy and other treats inside the terminal.

There will be a spooky haunted house, games and a live radio broadcast. Costumes are encouraged so bring your little ones decked out!!!

Location

Most of us moved to Meyers because it's a rural community, away from the City & tourist congestion. I am pro-growth, most locals are, as long as it's appropriately sized growth for our community. The proposed Meyer's Plan however, opens the door to a Mega Resort, with incentives for large development and in my mind, lacks long range planning.

I started going to planning meetings last summer, just to listen, but it wasn't until December that I got really concerned. Here's a timeline of events, from my perspective:

If the success of Thursday night's merging of South Lake Tahoe politics with speed dating is any indication, we should see many more forums done in the same format in the future. A much more educated and knowledgeable voter emerged from the evening's event at Lake Tahoe Community College.

Running for elected office is one of the most humbling experiences a person can have. You’re allowing yourself to be scrutinized by your community, people can take shots at your positions, and you have to move forward with calm and ease the entire time. I knew I wanted to make a difference in our community after completing the TahoeChamber’s Leadership Lake Tahoe program, little did I know that I’d be taking action and running for City Council so soon.

Here ya go. This is my opinion of the Tahoe Chamber endorsements. Send back any thoughts or corrections. Believe it or not I tried to take the high road on this one and hope the town is smart enough to see through the endorsement process by the Tahoe Chamber. Thanks.Kenny

Thank you to those who joined us for the SUP & Sip BAHM!, TahoeChamber’s last mixer of the summer season. It was a fun filled evening that included paddling on the lake, sipping local wines and networking at South Tahoe Standup Paddle’s retail store.

Thank you to Chris Brackett for hosting this event at South Tahoe Standup Paddle and also for providing rentals to attendees for use at El Dorado Beach. A big thank you also to Boeger Winery for providing wine and to Exquisite Grill for the delicious spread of sliders, grilled veggies and s’mores.

I’m hoping you will send a message by voting for me to work for you on the South Tahoe Public Utility District Board. I’ve been a local 40 years, through droughts, storms, power outages and great sunny powder ski days.

At 21, I opened Happy Steak Restaurant and owned it for 16 years. I was CEO of the California based South Lake Tahoe Chamber for 12 years and I taught Business and Personnel at LTCC. I have a BA in business administration and I’m a graduate of the Institute for Organization Management. I’m a past STPUD Board member.

The seven candidates for South Lake Tahoe City Council were at Wednesday nights Candidate Forum at Lake Tahoe Golf Course. The Tahoe Chamber and Tahoe Daily Tribune hosted the evening which had Rabbi Evon Yakar moderating the questions and answers.

About 100 people showed up to listen to panel who were given questions prepared by the chamber's new political committee as well as those asked by the audience. The questions were asked of different candidates so not everyone was asked the same one.

Not only has the Tahoe Prosperity Center has been working on issues to create healthier communities around the lake, they have also been welcoming new members to their Board of Directors.

New to the board are locals John McLaughlin, Chief Financial Officer of Edgewood Companies and Ken Riley, Senior Vice President, Kiewit Infrastructure Group, Inc. They join 24 other community members on the board whose goal is to also promote regional sustainability through economic vitality and by being environmental stewards.

The Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce will have a ribbon cutting at the new South Lake Tahoe business, Welcome Home Shoppe Gifts & Decor on June 4 at 4 p.m.

The shop features unique gifts and home decor.

The ribbon cutting ceremony will feature wine and appetizers. Welcome Home will pay the sales tax on any items purchased at the time.

The new boutique is located in the log cabin at 2777 Lake Tahoe Blvd (in front of Tahoe Keys Cafe and adjacent to the car wash).

You can still buy tickets to the Inaugural Elevate Your View Leadership Lake Tahoe Summit on Saturday, May 10. This one-day conference is meant to raise awareness and empower our community to improve the future of Lake Tahoe.

The first El Dorado Supervisor Candidate's Forum held in the Tahoe basin this election season was held Tuesday night.

With the June 3rd election just a few weeks away, this was a great opportunity for voters to become informed on the candidate's views on a myriad of topics from teamwork and cooperation to economic vitality and mental health issues.

Be an informed voter on June 3 by attending events that feature the candidates so that you can hear their views and watch them in action.

One such event will be an El Dorado County Supervisor Candidate's Forum hosted jointly by the Tahoe Regional Youth Professionals and the Tahoe Chamber. The two groups will present the forum at the California Conservation Corps on May 6 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Representatives of the TahoeChamber Government Affairs Committee and TRYP will moderate the discussion in hopes to illuminate candidates' stances of key business issues.
