Tahoe Homeless Coalition housed 148 people this winter; New services now offered
Submitted by paula on Sun, 05/31/2020 - 9:08amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless (TCH) had settled into their new winter home on 3rd Street in South Lake Tahoe when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, forcing them to look for a larger space to get more people off the streets.
The City of South Lake Tahoe opened its recreation center to the nonprofit as it was already closed due to the pandemic, allowing TCH to add more beds and services and become a 24/7 facility.
Warm Room expands and relocates to assist South Lake Tahoe homeless
Submitted by paula on Fri, 04/03/2020 - 1:56pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless (TCH) as relocated its Warm Room operations to the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Center in order to provide a 24/7 shelter for the most vulnerable residents until at least April 30.
In addition to their expanded operations they have also made the following changes:
● Set up 8 isolation bays for people experiencing non-COVID-19 symptoms.
● Providing 22 private motel rooms for our vulnerable seniors and those experiencing complex underlying health conditions.

Tahoe Homeless Coalition adjusts to COVID-19: Operations now 24 hours/day
Submitted by paula on Mon, 03/23/2020 - 12:38pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Due to the rapidly changing health crisis brought by coronavirus and COVID-10, the Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless (TCH) has a new
coordinated COVID-19 response and will be open 24-hours-a-day through April.
In preparation for increased utilization and operational capacity surging expected for the next several months, TCH has made the changes to their sheltering and support service programs. They have seen a 30 percent increase in nightly shelter requests and anticipate that number will increase significantly over the coming weeks.

Tahoe Homeless Coalition receives grant for year-round mental health services
Submitted by paula on Sun, 03/17/2019 - 11:53pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – A donation from Vail Resorts Chief Executive Officer Rob Katz and his wife, Elana Amsterdam is allowing the Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless (TCH) to offer more mental health services to those experiencing homelessness on the South Shore.
In December, the Katz Amsterdam Charitable Trust made more than $2M in contributions to support emotional wellness programs in nearly every mountain resort community in which Vail Resorts operates, including South Lake Tahoe.
South Tahoe Chamber of Commerce announces name change

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - With more than one Chamber of Commerce serving the South Shore there is often confusion about their names and functions.
In 2005 the Tahoe Douglas Chamber and South Lake Tahoe Chamber merged into the Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce (LTSSCC) for the whole community, both sides of the state line. A group of California side businesses then formed the South Tahoe Chamber of Commerce.
South Lake Tahoe homeless camp removed by Clean Tahoe and Caltrans
Submitted by paula on Tue, 10/09/2018 - 5:28pmSouth Lake Tahoe, Calif. - On their rounds of cleaning up around the bike trail behind Meeks Lumber, the Clean Tahoe crew spotted a huge mess created under the Trout Creek Bridge at Lake Tahoe Boulevard.
A homeless man had been living under the bridge, something they noted one month ago. When they returned October 2 the found the man had amassed a large amount of "stuff." They reported to authorities, including South Lake Tahoe Police, Caltrans (the owner of the bridge) and the California Highway Patrol.
Possible new home for South Lake Tahoe homeless warming room
Submitted by paula on Tue, 12/12/2017 - 5:22pmAt the last count there were 82 homeless persons and ten homeless families living in South Lake Tahoe, and to help protect them during the winter, the Lake Tahoe Homeless Coalition has operated a Warm Room in the city.
They too are now homeless and asked the City Council on Tuesday to move into the city-owned building at 1195 Rufus Allen Boulevard, the former home of Unity at the Lake church.
Homelessness is a housing issue in South Lake Tahoe and beyond
Submitted by paula on Fri, 09/01/2017 - 12:33amHomelessness isn’t just a South Lake Tahoe issue. It isn’t just an El Dorado county issue. It isn't just a California problem, though the state ranks 49th in housing units per capita.
And it isn't a problem that is going away any time soon and will take a change in the way the problem is currently being addressed to be solved. For every 100 people who are added to the population of California there are only 32 housing units built to house them.

In December, TCH opened the South Lake Tahoe Warm Room for the winter 2016-17 season. Alpine Carpet One was a generous supporter not only of our fall fundraiser but by donating carpet for our space. This donation helps keep our guests experiencing homelessness more comfortable in the Warm Room. The Warm Room plans to remain open through early April.
Tahoe Warm Room in new building, ready to serve homeless starting December 15
Submitted by paula on Thu, 12/08/2016 - 3:15pmThe cold temperatures of winter have settled in, and with them comes the announcement that the Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless (TCH) is opening their Tahoe Warm Room on December 15 at 7:00 p.m.
TCH has secured a new space at 2179 Lake Tahoe Boulevard in South Lake Tahoe for the winter. There were needed renovations on the building, which has been sitting vacant for many years, pushing the opening date to mid-December.
Homebrew for the Homeless to raise funds for Tahoe Warming Room

The Tahoe Homeless Coalition will be the recipient of funds raised at "Homebrew for the Homeless," and event for the whole family on Saturday, September 26.
There will be live music, a chili cook-off, horseback rides, games, bounce house, poker run and a Homebrew Beer Competition.
The Leigh Wayne Miller DDRC ranch in Minden will be the scene for a day of fun and fundraising starting at 1 p.m. The horse ranch is located at 1625 Chowbuck Street.
