New master plan being created for Tahoe Paradise Park

Event Date:
February 4, 2016 - 6:00pm

As the Tahoe Paradise Park Improvement District celebrates their 50th anniversary, the district's board of directors, along with community volunteers, determined that it is time to create a master plan for the park which is located in the town of Meyers.

The draft master plan will be the subject of a community meeting on Thursday, March 3, 2016, at the California Conservation Corps meeting room from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

End time nears for El Dorado County recall against supervisors, DA and auditor

On October 27, 2015, Sue Novasel, the County Supervisor representing South Lake Tahoe, Meyers, Tahoma and Pollock Pines was served a “notice of intent to circulate a recall petition” by a group of citizens who said they are “tired of the corruption and cronyism that has plagued our county for years.” It wasn’t only Novasel, but all five of the County Supervisors, Shiva Frentzen, Ron Mikulaco, Michael Ranalli and Brian Veerkamp.

Guest Columnist: Sue Novasel - I am proud of our community

El Dorado County and its Board of Supervisors have been in full stride throughout the last year solving critical issues, making important changes to protect tax dollars and providing expanded services to the public.

A whopper of a fish tops the scales during Kid's Fishing Derby

"I'm usually a bass fisherman," explained 11-year-old Casey Holden. "I only fish for trout during this derby."

The sixth grader from Fairfield-Suisun Valley Elementary had the catch of the day on Sunday during the 14th annual Moose Lodge Fishing Derby held at Lake Baron inside Tahoe Paradise Park. The first fish he reeled in was 3 lbs 7 oz after about 90 minutes of fishing. As soon as he got that one off the hook he cast another line and within a minute caught the one that ended up being the biggest of the day, a 7 lb 5 oz rainbow trout.

Opinion: Tahoe Paradise Park meetings now orderly and focused

Gone was the yelling between board members. Gone was the yelling from the residents in the crowd. Gone was the uncomfortable feeling I had watching a Tahoe Paradise Resort Improvement District (TPRID) board meeting. Gone were the bullies. Gone were the mistruths.

Present was teamwork, respect, order, transparency and a general commitment to make the park a viable one that families, residents and visitors could enjoy.

Tahoe Paradise Resort Improvement District to continue last month's meeting

Event Date:
February 5, 2015 - 6:00pm

Three hours weren't enough on January 22 to complete the lengthy agenda of the Tahoe Paradise Resort Improvement District Board of Directors meeting so it will pick up where it left off this Thursday.

The meeting is open to the public and will be held at the Lake Tahoe Fire station in Meyers located at 2211 Keetak Street. It starts at 6 p.m.

Sue Novasel vows to get Tahoe Paradise park district back on track

It was another packed house meeting on Thursday night for the Tahoe Paradise Resort Improvement District.

The last few meetings have been full of anger, dysfunction, arguing and mis-information. Many came to this board meeting hoping to have answers and a clear understanding of what the future holds for the Tahoe Paradise Park, which the board oversees.

It was clear early on that this meeting was going to be more of the same.

Sue Novasel sworn in as El Dorado County Supervisor

The South Lake Tahoe area of El Dorado County now has a new supervisor, officially. Sue Novasel won the election for Area 5 County Supervisor back in November and has jumped right into the job of representing her constituents which cover the area from Pollock Pines to Tahoma to South Lake Tahoe.

She was officially sworn in on Monday in Placerville, then again at their first Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday, then again in South Lake Tahoe on Thursday.

Opinion: Is Meyers a community willing to work together?

After witnessing the Tahoe Paradise Resort Improvement District (TPRID) meeting last week I starting thinking how the residents of Meyers and Tahoe Paradise could be better served.

What happened at the TPRID meeting was a sad display of a board in action. There was yelling, arguing and, what one person witnessing everything said, “don’t air your dirty laundry in a meeting like this.”

Op/Ed: People need to come out for the Meyers Area Plan meeting on Thursday

Most of us moved to Meyers because it's a rural community, away from the City & tourist congestion. I am pro-growth, most locals are, as long as it's appropriately sized growth for our community. The proposed Meyer's Plan however, opens the door to a Mega Resort, with incentives for large development and in my mind, lacks long range planning.

I started going to planning meetings last summer, just to listen, but it wasn't until December that I got really concerned. Here's a timeline of events, from my perspective:

BIG Day at the Kids' Fishing Derby at Lake Baron

"Big" describes the fish caught by the winners of the 13th Annual South Lake Tahoe Moose Lodge Kids' Fishing Derby last Sunday at Tahoe Paradise Park's Lake Baron. Records were broken, including biggest fish and number of trophy fish caught. The mark was set early, as Casey Holder landed a 4 lb 9 oz trout in the opening minutes of the Derby. At least 50 trout weighing in at over 2 pounds were pulled in by the participating children, many weighing over 3 pounds! It didn't take long for Chance Rice to bring in the day's ultimate winner, a 4 lb 10 oz beauty!
