South Lake Tahoe Toys for Tots drive brings in gifts for 347 local youth

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The holidays will be a bit more brighter this season after the community Toys for Tots toy drive provided special gifts for 347 kids.
Toys were collected in bins located around the community as well as online via Walmart's virtual toy drive.
The presents will be given to youth from the Family Resource Center who collected applications for the Toys for Tots organizer. Now the families will be picking up a bag full of books, toys and stuffed animals.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Walmart is hosting a COVID-free virtual shopping event for Toys for Tots of South Lake Tahoe until November 30. From the ease of a phone or computer, select any of the items listed on the registry, add to your "cart" and the toys will come directly to South Lake Tahoe.
The list is under the retailer's gift registry as Toys 4 Tots Lake Tahoe's Registry, or visit https://www.walmart.com/lists/view-events-registry-items?id=98012121-7913-4cd7-b409-a4d7d488cd92.
Items on the list fit all budgets or a gift card can be added to the "cart."

South Lake Tahoe drop-off locations and special event for Toys for Tots

In an effort to help children in the South Lake Tahoe community enjoy the holiday season, local U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots organizers will be collecting toys at several locations including a big event on Saturday, December 1 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Bring an unwrapped toy or book and help put a smile on the face of a local child.
Volunteers will be in front of Kmart at the Y in South Lake Tahoe with a vehicle from Jim Bagan Toyota and the goal is to stuff it full of toys for local youth.
Bring a toy and enjoy tasty treats from Sugar Pine Bakery.
Annual Fall Festival in South Lake Tahoe this weekend

September 29, 2018 - 10:00am The annual Fall Festival will be held on Saturday, September 29, at the American Legion Post, from 10:00 Am to 4:00 PM. Admission to the show is free.
Out and About in South Lake Tahoe: National Night Out

The public and public safety agencies came out for National Night Out on August 7 at Regan Beach in South Lake Tahoe. Booths were set up by California Highway Patrol, South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue, Barton Heath, California Conservation Corps, South Lake Tahoe Action Team, El Dorado County STAR, El Dorado County Sheriff's Search & Rescue, South Lake Tahoe Drug Free Coalition and the El Dorado County Animal Shelter.
Food was provided by Kiwanis.
The event was also a toy drop off for Toys For Tots.

South Lake Tahoe Police Department, El Dorado County Sheriff's Office, California Highway Patrol, South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue, El Dorado County, Barton Heath, California Conservation Corps and the South Lake Tahoe Action Teams are all involved again this year.

As demand soars, Christmas Cheer makes plea for help

The Great Recession continues to rear its head here at home, with demands on social services soaring and a genuine fear that South Shore’s food bank won’t be able to provide Christmas dinner for a record number of families in need.
For 30 years, the Christmas Cheer food bank has helped families celebrate Christmas with a traditional dinner of turkey and all the trimmings. However, with 800 families expected to be on the list of those to receive a dinner, the charity has only 75 donated turkeys and five hams to give and organizers say they are beyond being nervous.
