Commission upholds Washoe Meadows reclassification

California State Parks is gearing up for a legal battle with the South Shore's Washoe Meadows Community over the reclassification of Washoe Meadows State Park into a “state recreation area.”
The classification change is a critical component of a proposal to move up to nine holes of Lake Tahoe Golf Course onto undeveloped land as part of a project to restore that section of the Upper Truckee River.

Heavenly and Northstar to open more terrain this weekend

With last week's winter storms dropping nearly four feet of snow at Lake Tahoe's south shore, Heavenly Mountain Resort will open more trails and terrain beginning Saturday. Heavenly will open Galaxy Chairlift and the associated trails, Groove Terrain Park with six jumps and 18 creative features, and Lakeview Lodge, which is the final of Heavenly’s nine on-mountain restaurants to open.

The bears, each close to a year old, were brought to the South Lake Tahoe facility last summer where they were found malnourished and without mothers.
The California Department of Fish and Game released one of the cubs, a female, north of Truckee on Tuesday and two were taken to Alpine County on Wednesday. The cubs were put into winter dens made by Fish and Game biologists.

NHP releases details on CHP Pedestrian Accident That Killed Walnut Creek man on Highway 50 at Lake Tahoe

The Nevada Highway Patrol has released the following information regarding the Highway 50 accident near Stateline at Lake Tahoe early Sunday morning that claimed the life of a 21-year-old Walnut Creek, Calif., man after being struck by a California Highway Patrol vehicle. The accident happened between Lake Village and Elks Point Road and was reported at 12:44 a.m. Sunday morning, said NHP Trooper Chuck Allen. The pedestrian, whose identity has not been released pending notification of family, died at the scene of the accident.
