The Lake Tahoe Historical Museum has had the posters of the event up on its walls for months, getting history buffs and locals excited about seeing the likes of Mark Twain, Anita Baldwin, Hank Monk and Pony Express Rider Warren Epson, all who played important roles in Tahoe's past.

Climate change threatens Lake Tahoe clarity, snow levels

Lake Tahoe is "the fairest picture the whole earth affords," Mark Twain once wrote. Its crystal blue waters, surrounded by stunning snowy mountains, define one of California's crown jewels as an American landmark. It attracts 3 million skiers, boaters, campers, hikers and other visitors each year.
But it could look very different in 100 years.

Success for Calif. Tax Measures May Not Be New Trend

California voters had rejected every statewide tax measure since 2004 until they approved two of them last week. They also said yes to 70 percent of the local tax and bond measures on last week’s ballot. But this may not be the start of a new trend.
The passage of Propositions 30 and 39 snapped a seven-measure winning streak for the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association. But President Jon Coupal says that doesn't mean the attitudes of California voters are changing when it comes to taxes.

The peaceful adrenaline of Paragliding over Tahoe

Is it possible to be thrilled and relaxed at the same time?

I learned the answer to this question hanging beneath the canopy of a paraglider as it soared several hundred feet over the forested ridge that runs along the border between California and Nevada on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe.

The excitement of flying through the air under an oversized parachute was matched only by the peaceful beauty of the blue lake below. It's a vantage point that might have left the great Mark Twain speechless.

Court Orders New Study of Boat Buoys on Lake Tahoe

On Feb. 29 the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit ruled that the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) acted illegally in not analyzing the boat pollution impacts for over one thousand illegal boat mooring buoys in the lake and that it must do so before it can approve other lake development.

The appeals court upheld a lower court ruling that found proposed amendments to the shoreline development plan were invalid. Under the new ruling, TRPA will retain discretion in how it will conduct a new study of the impacts of legalizing these buoys.
