SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Most will say their cell phone coverage isn't great in Lake Tahoe or is severely impaired on big tourist weekends such as the 4th of July. With the growth of remote workers coming to live in Lake Tahoe, better internet coverage is also needed for them to work, along with the needs of many others.

There is an urgent need for the South Lake Tahoe City Council to adopt a cell tower ordinance to give reassurance to existing residents that their neighborhoods will not be compromised. There needs to be certainty to telecommunications companies by making clear where they can locate their facilities. An urgency ordinance may be adopted by the City Council with a 4/5 vote of its members.

Vote on Verizon monopine cell tower in South Lake Tahoe postponed

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - An overflowing crowd in the City Council chambers Tuesday were present to hear, and speak on, the appeal of a South Lake Tahoe Planning Commission decision to approve a monopine cell tower at the corner of Ski Run Boulevard and Needle Peak Road.

But they will have to return on September 3 to speak.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There will be a special City Council meeting on Monday, December 10 at 5:00 p.m.

The councilmembers will officially accept the November 6 election results. Per Elections Code the City Clerk must certify the results of the election to the City Council.

For South Lake Tahoe this means certifying the fact that three councilmembers, Cody Bass, Devin Middlebrook, and Tamara Wallace, won the election along with Sue Blankenship as city clerk, Dave Olivo as city treasurer, and Measure T passed.

Dozens of small cell towers planned around Lake Tahoe Basin

As most people have experienced, cell phone coverage around Lake Tahoe can be trying at times, especially during heavy tourist days when thousands of extra users are in the area. Combine that with over half of homes ditching their land-lines and relying only on cell phones, demand has greatly increased.

Lake Tahoe cell phone coverage may soon be improved as Verizon is working with Liberty Utilities and NV Energy and local governments to place small, seven-foot, grounded cell towers on top of current power poles on all sides of the lake.

Pair arrested after phones stolen from South Lake Tahoe stores

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Two people from the Sacramento area were arrested by the South Lake Tahoe Police Department Saturday afternoon on suspicion of stealing phones from both the Verizon and T-Mobile stores in South Lake Tahoe.

9:40 p.m. update: Internet and cable service for customers in the South Lake Tahoe and Carson Valley region have been restored.

The severed fiber option lines above Airport Road in Minden were reconnected one-by-one. According to Charter, there can be thousands of wires in each line.

His RipCORD World Tour 2016 will feature Brett Eldredge, who toured with Urban as a special guest on his 2014 Raise ‘Em Up Tour.

Newcomer and critical darling Maren Morris will join the tour as this year’s special guest, and Urban promises it will be one heck of a time.

Douglas authorities seek help in Carson Valley burglaries

Two commercial burglaries early Monday morning in Douglas County have authorities asking the public for help in identifying the suspects with photos provided by surveillance cameras.
The first burglary occurred at the Verizon Wireless Outlet Store on Waterloo Lane sometime around 5 a.m. Entry was made by the suspect smashing the glass of the exterior window of the store.
