Wednesday pairings for American Century Golf in Lake Tahoe

The practice rounds of the 2018 American Century Championship got underway Tuesday with the annual Tahoe South Celebrity-Am Tournament at Edgewood Tahoe.

Joe Theismann's group came in first with a 51.6, followed by Greg Maddux's team with a 51.7. Third place was a tie, with Mark Mulder's and Shannon Sharpe's teams at 52, followed by Ivan Rodriguez at 52.1.

Longest Day of Golf raises funds for South Lake Tahoe Cancer League

From sunup to sundown, a field of 11 golfers hit the links at Tahoe Paradise Golf Course Thursday to raise funds for the South Lake Tahoe Cancer League.

The Moose Lodge of South Lake Tahoe has sponsored the Longest Day of Golf for thirteen years. Lodge members spend the day driving golf carts, keeping the water and food flowing for the golfers, and helping to raise funds for charity.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The man burned in Wednesday's engine explosion on Kingsbury Grade has been identified as Ronald Svetlik of Stateline. He is currently in critical condition at the U.C. Davis Burn Center with third degree burns over 30 percent of his body, including his scalp, face, eyes, lips, hands, palms, arms and legs.

Wells Fargo Bank in South Lake Tahoe robbed; FBI and Police search for suspect

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department is looking for a man who robbed the Wells Fargo Bank at the Y on Emerald Bay Road on Saturday, March 24, 2018.

According to police detectives, the man walked into the bank at 12:57 p.m. and presented a note to the teller advising that a robbery was occurring. The male subject did not present a weapon, and it is unknown at this time if he was armed or not. The suspect left the bank with an undisclosed amount of US currency.

Elves stop by the Children's Memorial Tree

Santa's Elves were at it again this year in South Lake Tahoe! They visited the South Lake Tahoe Children's Memorial tree for the fifth straight year, leaving behind signs of Christmas with stockings and garland.

There is a stocking at the tree for every child who is memorialized there.

The memorial was created 26 years ago when tragedy struct the local community when South Tahoe High students Rory Hrbacek, Sandy Haynes, and Casey Wells died in an vehicle accident on Pioneer Trail.

5th annual Save-A-Pet Fundraiser in South Lake Tahoe

No extension or new purchase agreement accepted for Kingsbury Middle School

It's back to the drawing board for the Douglas County School District (DCSD) Board of Trustees after they officially decided to not give Patrick Taylor and Lake Parkway LLC another extension in their effort to buy Kingsbury Middle School.

Citing no confidence in the buyer's ability to put a deal that can close together, the trustees voted unanimously to take the steps needed to put the old middle school back on the market.

"I think the School District made a poor decision today," Patrick Taylor of Lake Parkway LLC told South Tahoe Now. "They are very unrealistic."

Derek Lowe and Mardy Fish early leaders at American Century Championship

Day one of the American Century Championship in Lake Tahoe is in the book, and former MLB All-Star pitcher Derek Lowe is in the lead. In round one, Lowe scored a 25 in the modified Stableford scoring format.

Couple sought in Carson City, Douglas County fraud investigations

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Investigation Division and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Investigation Division are asking for help in locating suspects in multiple fraud investigations.

Brandon Newberg and his wife Mindy Newberg are suspects in multiple fraud cases in Carson City and Douglas County. Their last known address was on the 1300 block of Kimmerling in Douglas County. The Newberg’s may have recently fled to Las Vegas Nevada to avoid law enforcement.

The Nevada Division of Tourism recognized outstanding members of the state’s rural tourism industry at the VolunTourism Awards Dinner April 27 in Elko. The awards ceremony was a highlight of the state’s annual Rural Roundup conference.

South Lake Tahoe, Calif. - Its been eight months of scrubbing, painting and planning for Jody Filgo and Sallie Ross-Filgo as they took an old, run down donut shop at the "Y" in South Lake Tahoe and turned it into Rainbow Sprinkles. And now they are ready to serve some happiness.

I-580 and Eastlake reopen as Little Valley Fire burns 2,000 acres; 19 homes burn

UPDATE 1:00PM 10/15/16: The Little Valley Fire in Washoe Valley has now burned 3,460 acres with 5 percent containment. Four injuries due to smoke inhalation have been reported.

The Sierra Front Type III Incident Management Team reports that 22 residences and 17-outbuildings have been destroyed. 500 structures are still under threat.

Interstate 580 is open in both directions, as is old U.S. Highway 395. Franktown Road, the area where most of the home damage is, remains closed.

Mark Mulder repeats as American Century Golf Champion

On Sunday, former MLB pitcher Mark Mulder became the first back-to-back winner at the American Century Golf Championship at Edgewood Tahoe since Rick Rhoden accomplished the feat in 2008 and 2009.

Coming from 5 points off the lead on Saturday, Mulder won the annual championship by 5 with the Modified Stableford scoring they use in the tournament. Second place finisher, tennis player Mardy Fish, missed a 12-foot putt for eagle on the 18th hole which would have forced a playoff.

Mulder takes home a trophy and $125,000 for his efforts. Fish, $60,000.

Boys on 7 entertain celebrities and spectators at celebrity golf

What started out as a group of friends coming to the South Shore from their homes in the Sacramento area to watch the American Century Golf Tournament at Edgewood has turned into a spectator sport of its own.

Jay DeMarcus of Rascal Flatts wins Korbel Celebrity Spray-Off at Edgewood

The celebrities golfing over at Edgewood for the 27th American Century Championship has the opportunity to stop over the at Korbel booth and participate in the 10th annual “Korbel Celebrity Spray-Off” on Thursday, July 21. This year, the bassist for Rascal Flatts, Jay DeMarcus, won top honors with his cork flying 80 feet.

As the prepared to tee off on the 18th hole, Korbel challenged celebrity and sports superstars to demonstrate their best champagne-popping talents at the Celebrity Spray-Off.

Mardy Fish takes lead at American Century Championship, Wagner in second

Former professional tennis player, and 2004 Olympic silver medalist Mardy Fish took over the lead of the American Century Golf Championship at Edgewood Tahoe on Saturday. Friday's leader, actor Jack Wagner, is just two points off the lead.

"Birdie is what's the name of the game here and this scoring system," said Fish. He birdied all of the par-5 holes and three others, putting him in a good spot for the final round on Sunday.

Fish is in Tahoe with his wife, who is pregnant with a daughter, and 2 1/2 year old son. "It's been a fun week," Fish added.

Kingsbury Middle School sold to Glenbrook company

The Douglas County School District has found a buyer for the old Kingsbury Middle School which had been on the market since 2012. The school board voted to accept a $3.15 million offer on the property from Lake Parkway LLC, a corporation listed in Zephyr Cove, Nev.

DCSD closed Kingsbury Middle School on 1900 Echo Drive in Stateline in the 2008-2009 school year due to low enrollment at the schools at the lake. The school site had an original price tag of $4 million.

"This is wonderful news," said DCSD Board President Ross Chichester.

Jack Wagner takes lead at American Century Golf in Lake Tahoe

During the first round of the 27th annual American Century Championship in South Lake Tahoe, actor Jack Wagner is ahead by three points over NHL Hall of Famer Mike Modano. Last year's winner, and former baseball pitcher Mark Mulder is four points off the lead.

"This weekend is dedicated to Jim Powers," said Wagner. "He was my best friend for 46 years, personal assistant for 34 years, and he passed June 4. He's been up here all 26 years, just handling my stuff."

Anthony J. “Tony” Magliari 1930- 2016

Former Sierra Sands school superintendent Anthony J. “Tony” Magliari passed away at his home in Ridgecrest, California, on June 14, 2016, at the age of 85. Born in Los Angeles on October 5, 1930, Magliari, the son of an Italian immigrant, graduated in 1948 from George Washington High School, where he served as student body president. While attending Los Angeles City College Magliari enlisted in the United States Air Force Reserve and was called into active duty during the Korean War in 1951.

Tahoe Mountain Lab provides unique work situation

While the official grand opening isn't until May 26, the doors have opened and office spaces are filling up at the new Tahoe Mountain Lab in South Lake Tahoe. What was once the Tahoe Daily Tribune offices on Lake Tahoe Blvd. is now home to 24 private offices, shared work spaces, tables and desks as well as the local paper's new office.

Whittell and South Tahoe softball and baseball post season update

South Tahoe's girls softball team started off their Northern Nevada NIAA Division 1-A playoff season right, with a Thursday morning win over Elko, 8-1, but things didn't go the Viking's way after that. In Thursday afternoon's game against #1 seed Churchill County, the SLT girls lost a nail-biter, 1-0. During Friday's third round, South Tahoe High was matched up against Spring Creek, the host of the tournament. The home field advantage led them to a 8-6 win over STHS.

South Tahoe and Whittell High softball and baseball teams headed to playoffs

Seasons are wrapping up for local high school baseball and softball teams, and that means playoffs. Both boys and girls baseball and softball teams from South Tahoe High and Whittell High are headed into Northern playoffs

The South Tahoe baseball team is traveling to the other side of the state for their first round match up against the #3 seed team from Elko. Fallen firefighter to be honored with processional through South Lake Tahoe

There will be an escorted processional from South Lake Tahoe to Placerville on Thursday to honor 21-year-old Mikey Hallenbeck. The young U.S. Forest Service firefighter, and Sierra-at-Tahoe employee, died while fighting his very first fire on Saturday

Mark Mulder wins American Century Golf Championship

Mark Mulder had a premonition on Thursday after playing his practice rounds at Edgewood Tahoe. "I'm going to win this," he said. "I was in kind of the groove and knew I had an absolute chance," he said of the American Century Golf Championship.
